Title: Nintendo Vs. Capcom (Members Needed)
Post by: TreyFox on August 08, 2009, 02:46:03 AM
Hello, everyone.

I'm new to this forum, and have only learned a little bit about MUGEN for the past two months.

I have been going to many different forums, and I have to say this is definitely one of my favorites.

The reason I am posting today is because I'm a huge fighter arcade fan, like most of you on here.

Ever sense my two favorite fighter titles, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2, and Super Smash Bros. I have had my own dream of one of the best fighters of all time, that I believe all arcade fighter, capcom, and nintendo fans would enjoy.

Combining both Marvel vs. Capcom 2's fighting mechanics and expansive roster with Nintendo's vast library of colorful and memorable  characters, there could be a great fighter called  "Nintendo vs. Capcom."

Using MUGEN I have collected many different characters over the internet. With capcom I was much more successful (Because of so many characters being ripped.) However Nintendo's been much more difficult because, even though many characters have been made, none of them really match or are proportionate to the capcom cast.

I am relaying this message for all the character makers, stage builders, programmers, and whatever else is needed to make something as good as the "Super Marvel Vs. Capcom: EoH" demo.

I'm hoping to keep all the characters within proportion and they're all within the same style and well-animated sprites with decent AI (Not Godly AI, mind you.)

As far as the roster, here is the list for both sides. There are 75 characters per side. 150 characters total. (It's a lot I know...) Plus a random block for each side.

Note: Any character with a * beside them is a character you have to unlock.

If you are interested in building any of these characters, or stages for the characters, especially on the Nintendo side, let me know and I would like to discuss about how the character could be built.

I will later be posting a list of capcom characters that won't be needing building because I already have them and within the Marvel vs. Capcom style and context.

Once again, I'm just an idea guy, but I would really like to hear and see support from other people that are as enthusiastic about these ideas as I am.

Would love to hear any positive thoughts or comments.

Really looking for the support.

well, Although I like the Idea, and I agree it would be great, I was once just Idea man myself, but I later learned how to sprite, and am learning how to code.

However, I will say this:

Biospark Before Gooey, he's like, a million times cooler, also, I made up a moveset for him already.

might work on him, maybe probably sometime in the distant future.
 ;)

*Nods* I agree Biospark's cooler, but the reason I put in Gooey is because he has a history as Player 2 in some Kirby games. I have the list based more on a character's importance and history impact on the game series.

I am also learning bit by bit. However I'm a terrible sprite maker, and I know the nintendo sprites would all have to be made from scratch to go with the capcom characters style and animation.

There's no way I could build the whole thing on my own regardless.

Either way, would you be interested in being a character builder? It's just nice to know I finally got a nibble after this was posted 3 hours ago. (Probably more.)

I'd love to help, but I've kinda tyed up making Onomotopiea and Hornetman right now, maybe when I've finished them, I could help you, no promises though.

It's just nice to know someone cares.

If you were to work on any characters which would you be most interested in building? (Not signing you up or anything, just curious.)

Also if there's anyone else you know that you think would be interested in this, It would be great if you could let them know about it.

Are you developing characters for Super Marvel vs. Capcom: EoH?

Hi. Welcome to Infinity. :)

Just so you know, its considered rude to ask someone to make a character at about every mugen forum in the community.

There are lots of tutorials that show you how you can make sprites or code, and if you can do one or the other then you'll have a better chance of getting the character you want to see so badly done.

Feel free to check out the tutorial section, you can make sprites or code things yourself.

Good Luck %%-

Stupid question: Even though he's not officially a Nintendo character, Duke Nukem did appear on 3 different Nintendo consoles: the Nintendo 64, the Game Boy Color and the Game Boy Advance.  Any chance you could sneak him in as a hidden character on the Nintendo side?

Thank you for your input.

As I have said in a previous post, I am learning to do some of this stuff myself bit by bit. It just confuses me a little bit that you would say it's rude to request a character for mugen on any forum when theres a whole section here dedicated to requesting things.

I know I could do a lot of this myself, but then it's a bit insane to completely go this project alone if you've seen what I said in mind. I'm just looking to see who's interested in working on the project with me.

If you don't want to, just say so. You don't have to insult my intelligence over it.

Either way, if there's a section dedicated to it, then I don't think it's being rude. I think it's just asking who's interested.

Thanks for wishing me luck, though.

If it were a smash bros. title I would consider it, but sense I am trying to do strictly "Nintendo vs. Capcom" here, no. Duke Nukem wouldn't quality. Even though he is an awesome character.

Not to sound rude, but some people can take months, to a year to make one full half decent character. Or a full team of experienced coders can take years to complete a full game, so you should really think about what your getting into I am not trying to discourage you, I just see a LOT of people planning on making a big game like this - But no one ever really does it, or finishes it.
I'm just saying maybe you should make one character or something, THEN try and recruit people, you will have MUCH greater luck. And maybe make a much smaller roster, because even with a team, you won't be able to finish that many characters...at least with good quality to boot...
Good luck, and welcome to Mugen.

It's possible. The way I was thinking of having the characters be unlocked would be through a points system like Marvel vs. Capcom 2. I'll consider it.

I missed Roy too. I he was my best character in Melee before Brawl rolled in.

Sorry to get annoying,

But when he's a beta or alpha, can I have him?

Wasn't a MvC style-ish Duke Nukem released already? The half decent one with the pipebombs? =P

Thank you for your concern.

I know that it would take a lot of work and a large team effort to make what I'm dreaming a reality. I figured that before posting. That is why I am on this forum asking in the first place. Right now it's just me. I am looking for people who's willing to support the project. I appreciate the concern whole-heartedly though.

It's no bother. Sure. Whomever gets him or makes him, (be it me or someone else) I'll have the character posted.

I'm not doubting your dream, just saying you will have better luck if you make one character or something, else recruiting people is going to be pretty much impossible, especially ones that can create EOH quality characters, sine they are-...well...working ON EOH game xP
I just can't explain how vast what your trying to attempt is, I guess we just have to let you see for yourself. I do think this project has a chance, but not with the bar set so high at the beginning.

Hey I wouldn't mind a Roy character either, I just think he should take small steps at a time. It's quite possible to do a project like this, if you approach it properly.

EDIT: (I know you didn't make him, and I already have the character. I just forgot who made him and didn't check the readme before posting that)

In my opinion TreyFox, I suggest that you lower the character roster mainly because 75 characters on each side equals 150 characters and it's a lot of work to do if you are the only person working on it. It'd be probably take years for you to make all 150 characters if you made it all by yourself. Just a suggestion though.

Request a created char is different to request the creation of a char.

I should suggest you begin with something more smaller. Considering that half of those characters will need custom sprites, I think that a quantity of 12 good characters can be great for a beginning. You can have updates, this is MUGEN.

See you, good luck.

You might be right about the bar being high. I suppose I will make a character, too.

What else do you believe I should do? I want to keep this project alive as much as possible.

What else do you believe I should do? I want to keep this project alive as much as possible.

First start on an easy character that doesn't have a lot of sprites. These characters in my opinion are the easiest to make. Think of attacks for the character or use attacks from the games they appeared in. Work on the character little by little each day, don't rush unless you want people to dislike the character. If you need help, PM me.

Believe me, listening to the community is the best way to get anywhere. We don't want to hold you back, but we all see things crash and burn.
I think you should learn to code a character before you begin spriting, or recruiting a sprite artist, so you know you can put them to good use.
Then, when you feel ready, why not start with only one character, then two, then three. then figure out a stage or two....after that, getting your own website helps a LOT.

Here are some suggestions:

1) Screen pack: You've already noted that you have found many of these characters already made on the internet, which means you don't particually intent to make them again. Perhaps rather than starting by trying to make a full game you should just simply make a Screen Pack. By making a Nintendo vs. Capcom motif Screen Pack you, and many others, will be able to add existing characters to the mugen engine and start building your own Nintendo vs. Capcom game.

2) Just one character: so often an excited new patron to the mugen arts makes a dream roster of all the characters they would like to have in their game and claim that they are going to make that game. Unfortunately most people get burned out eventually because they expected that others would participate more, yet they themselves have hardly accomplished anything. If you really intend on a chieving your goals all you need to do it pick just one character and get started. Every journey begins with the first step.

(Helpful hint: when you make a full mugen game, it is only appropraite to upload characters that either you have made or have gotten permission to use in the game. Many creators frown upon others using their hard work without their permission in a project they have no connection to. This is another reason why a Screen Pack is a good place to start.)

Screenpack is more then one thing. It's pretty much the lifebars, sounds, character select screen, title screen...that stuff.
Check the screenpacks section of the database for better examples.

I would suggest taking your hand in CvS2 type spriting and not just MvC spriting
so (in my opinion ) the game will have a little bit more feel, plus I imagine some Nintendo characters will be hard to sprite/sprite edit in MvC style
You have got a very decent project here and I wish you luck in the future
