Yes, I know there has been a checkered past in regards to relationships with that group but lets not dwell on that.Given their content is enjoyed by numerous members here I thought some may like to read this.

And I checked with a few team members about if this was okay to post first, and got their full support before doing so.

I was fortunate enough to discuss a few tidbits of information with Buyog of Scruffy Dragon Productions about what may be in store from them in April. I then coupled that with some pretty extensive research all through their forum, the SD wiki listing, Buyog's Mugen blog, and everything you can find from their front page.

The follow article first goes into why there is a Scruffyversary and how it came to pass, recaps last years event and then breaks into all kinds of avenues that suggest what may or may not happen.

Thanks Tech..

...their treasure hunt is pretty, well, cryptic. But I stand by everything in that article and think there will be a ton of characters and stages coming whoever's way that is interested.

I don't think that will be a problem. I think at worst a beta release of Phase 1 of their game, along with numerous characters involved getting updates in releases.

Yeah I definitely hope they release Joker, Parasite, and Wild Cat. Whatever they do though, I'm sure will be awesome, it always has.

Very good chance for Parasite, with proof provided of such in the article link.

The rest however, there is little evidence to suggest something will happen there due to things very under wraps regarding them. It is possible, but I would not hold my breath.

Yea, I doubt Joker will be involved either, but I'm guessing most of the Phase 1 characters who have not already been released will be...and maybe a couple others. ;)

I thought it was a good article. I wasn't aware that there was an event last year, thanks for the info. This is another exciting event, two things to be excited about; lots of fun ahead.

I'm waiting to see how the updated Superman will look, (as well as the new releases) I'm not sure if it's getting new sprites, but I think it's being resized 'cause someone was saying that he was kind of big. Oh yeah, and the S on his chest is being fixed for when he faces both sides.

For those of you who may not know, the Treasure Hunt with Scruffyversary has dropped some interesting hints. So interesting that Acey and laspacho have been very involved in tracking down the various hints. He is a general overview of the treasure hunt as it related to me with the upcomic release of new content:

Some of the hints have discussed:
- Something rising from the ashes
- The anticipated release of Parasite
- SGM's Amalgam Project
- Super villains will be making an impact
- Some creators will be coming back from the past to be involved
- Pretty intriguing stuff involving Seth Zankuten's Project Silhouette.

Also, they have posted a contest to create a stage if anyone is interested, here is a cut and paste in case anyone wants to enter such:
Scruffyversary contest #1 begins today!
This contest is in honor of theme week #1, Parasite Week, which begins Sunday night. The purpose of this contest is to design a stage for Parasite, as he doesn't yet have one and can't be part of Phase 1 without it!


Rules
1.- All entries must done in the "Marvel Versus" Capcom style. Take these parameters as a minimum: 640px of width, 360px of height. Feel free to make it larger if you'd like.
2.- The way to show your stage will be on a png or gif picture format so everyone can understand the final result or general idea, and a programer can code it like that.
2a.- (Remember, if your design is chosen, the programmer will need all of the stage elements as separate sprites, so keep them in a folder on your hard drive)
3.- It's forbidden--and is grounds for disqualification--to use a sprite edited by any other creators from the sprite editing community (but you can use the same base used by others if you'd like). Also, please don't take sprites from already-released stages without first getting permission from its creator.
4.- There is no limit on number of submissions.
5.- This contest will run through the end of Parasite Week (April 12th), but if enough people need more time we can extend the deadline.


Prizes
1.- Your creation will be programmed by a senior ScruffyDragon team member and hosted at ScruffyDragon.com, with you given full credit as designer.
2.- You'll be able to suggest two new power sets (one Marvel, one DC) for me to add to the Parasite character -- whatever characters you want, provided they're from one of those two universes.
3.- You'll be presented with a special "contest winner" rank and award badge to display as part of your forum avatar.


Tips
1.- Try to get sprites from Capcom related games: the Marvel Vs series, Street Fighter Alpha series, Darkstalkers, Jojo Bizarre Adventure, Street Fighter 3, Capcom vs SNK, etc. Sprites from other brands are ok but be sure to try to fit the style with Capcom games.
2.- For make you final result image you need at least some basic knowledge on programs that allow you to work on layers like Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop or Macromedia suite programs. If you don't know about how to use these, Google can help you find free online tutorials. Also, there are several free applications, like Paint.NET, that are available online if you need them.
3.- A easy way to rip sprites from Capcom games is using emulators like WinKawaks and Nebula (recomended for newcomers).
4.- When you start to design your stage try to do everything in layers, not just one big picture - this will make it more dynamic and funner to play. (a basic guideline is at least 2 layers: for the floor and another for the background).
5.- Some ideas for locations: S.T.A.R. Labs, Phantom Zone, etc. More ideas can be found by reading his profile at Wikipedia.

Here is another cut and paste of a contest I thought some of you might have interest in:

Look out! Here comes Scruffyversary contest #2!

This contest is in honor of theme week #2, Amalgam Week, which begins April 12th (more on that soon!).

The purpose of this contest is to design an Amalgam hyper move for Siliconman, the fusion of Plastic Man and Sandman!


Requirements
1.- All entries must done in the "Marvel Versus" Capcom style.
2.- Ideas and static sprites aren't enough - a valid submission will comprise a full animation of the move.
3.- The idea behind the Amalgam hypers is that they should be level-3, "finisher"-style attacks. The more powerful and showy, the better, so feel free to go crazy.


Rules
1.- The way to show your move will be as one or more animated GIFs, but you can start by posting static images to give an idea of how your move will look and gauge people's interest.
1a.- (Remember, if your design is chosen, the programmer will need all of the character sprites and any effects as separate sprites, so don't squash them all into a single file and trash the originals)

Again, just informing people here who might be interested in this Sprite Contest. It seems pretty cool actually.

Here's Scruffyversary contest #3!

This contest is in honor of theme week #3, Villain Week, which begins April 19th (more on that soon!).

The purpose of this contest is to design and sprite edit a villainous version of a Marvel or DC hero. We're seeing a lot of these lately as part of Marvel's "Dark Reign" event, and of course the Crime Syndicate, the "evil Justice League", have been showing up lately in Trinity and Final Crisis. That's the idea here: take a hero or heroine that we all love, and shove them through the looking glass to an antimatter dimension... of evil!!!


Requirements
1.- All entries must done in the "Marvel Versus" Capcom style.
2.- All art styles will be considered, but more emphasis will be given to game-style artwork... character-sized sprite edits or portraits.
3.- Two prizes will be awarded: one for the best rendition of an existing character design, like Ultraman for example, and the second for best design of a new character of your own creation (like, say, an evil Stargirl)


Rules
1.- This contest is just for fun -- no requirement that it be at all practical or lead to any kind of MUGEN creation (although, who knows? Maybe your art will inspire someone to take up the challenge!)
2.- It's forbidden--and is grounds for disqualification--to use sprites edited by any other creators from the sprite editing community. Also, please don't take sprites from already-released stages or characters without first getting permission from their creator.
3.- There is no limit on number of submissions.
4.- This contest will run through the end of Villain Week (April 26th).


Prizes
1.- You'll be presented with a special "contest winner" rank and award badge to display as part of your forum avatar.
2.- You may be eligible for other special perks, to be decided by the ScruffyDragons when we get closer to the contest end.

2.- For making your art you'll probably want at least some basic knowledge of graphical art programs ilke Photoshop, Paint Shop Pro, or Paint.NET. Then again, there are people crazy-talented enough to make great stuff using only Microsoft Paint.
3.- A easy way to rip sprites from Capcom games is using emulators like WinKawaks and Nebula (recomended for newcomers).
4.- Here are some websites and images where you can see images of the Dark Avengers, evil Marvel characters from Exiles, and the Crime Syndicate, to maybe spark some good ideas:

Parasite seems like great coding. I still think he still looks a little too much like Venom, and the green panties just dont look as sharp as the older concept.

I know I'm nitpicking but these guys are the best DC creators, so the bar is a little higher. Then again theres always possibility that someone might improve the sprites down the road

I agree with Alexziq on this one. One little thing I think that could add some comedy to this character is if he absorbed something and got their taunts as his absorbed power. i look at it as more of a custom edit for a character such as Dan or Deadpool for kicks if it were agreed to by the creators of course. i think the idea is at least mildly worth noting

they arent Dragons, they are human...
i tink the high expectation of scruffy dragons char is the reason of they hold chars while not perfect...
i agree, sprites not perfect, but should be a great and unique char.

Unfortunately, Mugen can't tell the difference between a Batarang and a Hadouken. It seems a bit strange that he can absorb energy from Spider-man's webbing, but I'm sure no one will mind once we're playing him.

That's true. You might have to go a long way to tell the difference. A very interesting character indeed. I wouldn't mind playing as him.

Amalgam week has started!! and the first release is posted!!
ok so here is what i think:
1.the walking back is way too fast  *Iceman ThumbsDown!*
2.the basics attacks are perfectly done  :thumbsup:
3. the stance is good but could be better  :-??
4. the palettes are great  :)
5. just curious when he did this move because i m sure i have all the amalgam comics:.  ~X(

Well i have the comics as well.... and they never say much about ferroman... i threw in the chain move... becuase they never go into what ferroman can do... he is only in 2 comics..

and for the special intro's... the finial public release will have them... but the finial version of ferroman that will be for the AOS game will not.

and I'm glad to see you like Ferroman!! stay tune for the rest of the week! theirs much more to come!!!

I always wonderd if Thanoseid had a hot version of Death for a girlfriend.  Since DC's Death is hot as Hell, and Thanos always imagined Death as a hot chik one would think that Thanoside would have a knockout for a gal. :-??

I recently had a chance to discuss the progress of one of the main boss characters from SGM's Amalgam: Age Of Superheroes game, Dr. Doomsday.

This was done as part of Amalgam week for Scruffyversary.

Tenchimuyo4ever told us about:
-how the character came into being
-general creation tidbits
-concepts of moves

Here is a preview:
1) So how did you decide upon bringing Dr. Doomsday to MUGEN?

We were first going over our list of potential villains for the game and we noticed that Dr. Doomsday was the villain with the most appearances in the actual Amalgam comic history. Realizing that, we decided that he has to be in the game as a boss. Sic and I both knew that Deanjo, one of our sprite editors was already working on Doomsday and I originally wanted him to work on Dr Doomsday but he said his WIP list was pretty full and that he wanted to get more of them out way first. Looking at my own WIP list during the time, I figured that I needed a few more, so I decided to work on him myself. Even though I was going to design and sprite the character myself, I still wanted Dean to play a hand in his creation since he was working on Doomsday so he designed the original base. I tweaked it a little bit, created a stance and then AOS Dr Doomsday was born.

ok here is what i think of thanoseid:
1. The first thing when i downloaded him was, okay another amlagm character, ...
and then i see him on my winmugen and he looks really cool.  :w00t:
2. please more work on the shading there is not enough on the legs and arms.  *Iceman ThumbsDown!*
3. He is overpowered and that s a good thing because he is the main boss  >:(  :)
4. please just change to this: [Data]
life = 1000         ;Amount of life to start with
attack = 100         ;attack power (more is stronger)
defence = 100   
it was stupid to overpower his attacks and defences, he was strong enough.   [-X
5. Some bugs when he does a strange attack , sorry i didn t think to do a screesnhot  :-??
6. the intros seems unfinished  ~X(
7. Two crunch kicks are the same and miss frames  *Iceman ThumbsDown!*
i know i stated a lot of bad comments but that s an excellent release, and i love the character.  ::salute::

I think that isn't a problem. Some chars are strong and even have more attack or defense power. In most cases, chars that are big and buffy has to be more defence, since he is a powerhouse.

ZVitor, I will post again what I've told to you at MSN (sorry guys, its portuguese only. I can translate it later):

1300 - o golpe é legal, mas nao gostei do jeito que foi executada. o pilar de pedra deve aparecer mais rapidamente, e o Thanoseid deve ficar mais tempo abaixado (er um tempo de resposta mais longo)

3000 - acho que vc poderia colocar algo mais oringinal . Tipo o hyper do Igniz do KOF, que faz uma bola de energia na mão. Ele poderia fazer o mesmo, na mesma posicao que esta hj.

3200 - ideia boa, mas ta estranho isso. Faz cair um monte de pedras aleatoriamente, usa as pedras do proprio hyper do Thanos

3100 - sei la, achei meio fraco. a explosao tbem é.

He might be overpowered for Mugen, but not overpowered for Thanoseid. Everyone wants characters to all follow a community wide balance so they can assemble their perfect game. However Mugen is freely creative despite the box we too often get trapped in. The Amalgam guys have their vision for their game, and I applaud that. Patches can always be made for the standard Capcom players.

okay, time for my feedback:
1. the stance is incomplete, only the upper body is moving  *Iceman ThumbsDown!*
2. the basics are good, i m glad he has some ring lanterns in the basics, because that s how the character should be.  :thumbsup:

4. the ring effects are cool even if some could say it s taken from sentinels, but really cool.  :thumbsup:

ok, so maybe it would have been cooler to finish with a bang when you released thanoseid.   :-??
i don t like him so much for now . but thanks for your efforts guys, it s been one cool week  ::salute::

Thanks that u like thanoseid :) The intros are finished, dunno what is wrong with them..
And about the shading.. in my opinion thanos was poorly made by capcom, and adding one extra shade to him.. well i tried that and i swear it didn't look right..
In the readme i said that some moves are placeholders.. they will change, don't worry :)

Thanoseid is great, but the sahding is a problem.  And the intros a re way too long and nothing happens, just glowing eyes.
iron lantern seems unfinished, take more time when he does a ring attack, please. you have updated the face, now do the same with boots and shoulders.
next to parasite these characters are cool. i won t even comments all the problems.
just a quick question, scfuffy doesn t have any members thanks to mague and they have to recruit you? bzecause they hate you a lot when sic stole wucash stage, and uinlimited's throne, and ....
