I like the new policies on there, but you know, I gotta ask...where are the old guard, advocating the rights of creators and such, and what their opinion on this is.
If they all agreed on this, then good. Everything's gone so horribly out of control recently, it's not funny.
Here's my theory on this...
With the possible Sword of Damocles that is Elecbyte's imminent return and all the coding everyone's done so far to be practically being obsolete with the brand-new version of MUGEN, they might have thought, hey f**k it, why would we listen to everyone else bitching about ZOMG MY STUFF STOLEN CREDIT CREDIT PERMISSION CREDIT OR I GO PRIVATE BLAH BLAH when it's all going to be obsolete sooner or later?
Either way, it's a huge shift. The outlook's good now, but you never know what the old guard are going to think about it.

here we go again....you know, sometimes i sympathize with guys like wagzopanzermanathod(i think thats how he spells it) when he says he is indifferent on the warehousing issue, because in all honesty, offline content is a Birtch to find, and i think that the classic offline content should be warehoused with permission or credit given or preferably both, but warehousing online content is a "no no" even IF your the big cheese of the mugen community, next thing you know, oowhap is a mod at the guild :o sometimes, it just seems like the community is falling apart specialy when the guild starts warehousing
Wugza (or Wujizah, depending on forum)
Also, I like the less stricter rules. In all honesty, considering this is the internet, if I didn't give a damn, I could easily bypass most rules. However, while I do like them more than the stricter rules MI has, I also fear for the trouble they may bring. A part of me says that they will probably go back to their own ways in the future.
In any case, I'd rather go for a real "Mugen community" than "Mugen clans", which is what I would call the current "community" today.

Im a little torn....
Part of me wants it to be ok to have characters that are unrequestable (like Thanos of titan)
But really i dont want my character im working on to be on some guy's site that i dont know.
And sence its going to be my first character the only people who would beleve im the orginal creater are all here. I dont know.. Perhaps people will be moving here now due to the rules.
I dont like this at all...
And other places are aready starting to follow in the act.
I can understand if the site is down with no warning. But to be ok with hosting a character thats already online, even though its frowned apon lightly?

Seriously, I'm going to start using Clan instead of Community.
Anyway, they should fully realize Guild isn't the only Mugen forum.

"Proper credit" would ideally include the following:
* name of creation
* name(s) of author(s) involved
* author's original website url <============== at least there is still some respect here
* version number (if any)
* time of last update or timestamp of last updated file
making a site like a mugen database is pretty much okay for me.
MFG says:
"if you strip the creations you host of their readme files and make them look like they were yours, you will very likely make yourself very unwelcome around here - aka you do the sh*t of plagiarizing and you suck"

And now there is Infinity, RS, MGBR, MI and other joints that still stick to the community standards. You have to remember too this was not decided by all of Guild: the number of people that chose to do that could be counted on one hand, and have done...what for the community? It's easy to care when either you don't or your neck isn't on the line after all.
This is nothing new. All it means is Guild died suddently, silently, and a new place with the same name rose, dragging all the old members along for the ride (because after all, most of those members are gone by now, and corpse accounts make it look oh so much bigger).
We're all fine...just got a bigger shitfest to worry about guys is all.

In all honesty, neither was it before the change. As much as I like New-Guild, some of the standards should have been kept.
Besides, not many care for balance in terms of how the "Mugen clans" are ran. The closest to a balance I've seen is this forum. MFG caters more to the new people now, while MI seems to suppress the flow of new people.

Well, now that my initial shock has worn off, I think everyone should remember we have rules different than MFG and that what goes down there will not here. What is funny about all of this is that it does not seem genuine to me. It seems like a sort of ploy to either prove a point or just a bunch of guys tired of all the inter-forum fights about this or that. There is no way to know unless there are any Guild insiders here (like Sepp) or until we continue watching everything unfold.
That is what I am thinking too. HOWEVER if that is indeed the case............if something REALLY bad goes down due to their "rule" changes, alot of the community will blame them EVEN if it was to prove a point. Is the mugen community restrictive, yea, but if the Guild tries to do what it wants with this........it is TOO free. Some policing is needed for this community. Their kinda of rules work if EVERYTHING was open source (which I think everything should be unless it is a original character). We shall see what happens, maybe my wish will happen and every mugen creator or new creator makes everything open source due to this, but I doubt it =\.

I fear that in retaliation to this, many creators will pull their works and make things private. Considering this is apparently one of the big forums in the MUGEN scene, such a radical shift to basically allowing warehousing might scare many top shelf creators away. Leeching and theivery have taken their toll as it is, but something like this?
This may have a very bad effect on the community. But I suppose, in the end, it is what it is, and there is little that can be done.
Time will tell, I suppose...

Anyway, That aside, I don't think the Scruffy's will care too much for what the Guild is doing and switch policies. It does not affect us here with the exception of the unrequestables list so I don't see why it should affect them other than making the Guild public enemy number 1 now... but I have a feeling that will not happen. I don't know though, I could be wrong and join you in the morgue when I die of heart failure also. :P

I don't feel like debating, but even though I'm not a creator (have attempted) I know that creating a character isn't an extremely difficult thing to do when compared to custom creations from other games and sites (i.e. Full Conversion Mods for example). For one thing, the sprites are usually provided to you or you have to rip them. Usually someone like Capcom or SNK made them. The creator is coding/editing the character into the game. The sprites are 2D, not 3D, which makes it even easier. I am in no way saying that it's cake, because it's not. But when you look at other communities that have custom content, which can be even more harder to create than Mugen characters (i.e. Doom 3 filefront or simtropolis as I mentioned before) there isn't a huge backlash if something is stolen or uncredited. I've only seen it happen in the Mugen community. Also, I am in no way applying this to all creators. Heck some if not a major portion of the creators are really nice. And I respect them for making the contribution to the community. But it annoys me when I see someone that "created" a Ryu for Mugen and guards it like it's their life's work when it was originally made by Capcom. The fact that some creators think their creations are one of the 7 wonders of the world is upsetting. So I think it the Guild's move is a good one that should serve as an example to everyone.

I am only guessing Vader, but if you have attempted to create for Elecbyte's engine, then something made you quit because it was either complicated or you got frustrated right? I don't know jack about Simtropolis and or filefront, so I cannot compare and say this is hard, but not as hard as this... so I will not dwelve too much into this, but saying it "annoys you" because someone converted Ryu to the MUGEN engine and guards it like it was their life's work is really one-way thinking. You only look at it like that because you see the download link and then insert it into MUGEN. I used to think like you. I used to get mad because people guarded their stuff like the way you described, put it online and expected EVERYONE to respect their wishes (and for the most part, I have changed my way of thinking because I now use MUGEN for debugging and beta testing for others, not playing MUGEN myself with a fancy roster and collection) but now that I have put months and months of free time, time I could have caught up on sleep prior to a long day of work, or time I could have completed a 30 page literary paper rather than messing with MUGEN and everything therein (Infinity included) I tend to now understand "sacrifices" that are sometimes made to try to complete something, to accomplish something other's have tried and failed or in my case stalled at. Now, the only reason I even replied is to try to get my point across to you that although there are some creators that do not care about what you do with their released stuff, there are SOME that do. Those people are the major voice that will be speaking out against the Guild's new look and attitude. Internally here at Infinity, there are people UPSET with the Guild's change, but not for the reason you my be thinking of. There are some here thinking how hypocritical the Guild is right now because of Infinity's past and what we, the staff and Admin have been through to try to survive in what you think is an easy hobby to create for. How we were BLACKLISTED by every MUGEN site from the Guild, through MI and on down to now see those same sites adopt (somewhat) of a warehouse friendly attitude. For our internal outcry's we are trying our best to contain our composure and see how this whole thing plays out. As more information as to why this change really happened comes out, we will start seeing other sites either accept or reject what is happening. The only reason I replied to this is because of the comment you made. It is very one-sided of you, or anyone else, to say that this character was made by CAPCOM and so the person that converted him should have no say so in anything to do with a character you more than likely downloaded from them because it does not belong to them. Your argument would hold water should CAPCOM had already converted Ryu for MUGEN and all the "creator" did was create a def file and slapped his name on it and linked it for you.

Why give so much creedence to the 'Guild? If anything, we at Infinity should simply continue to abide by our forums' rules and leave well enough alone.

Well like I said, what the Guild is doing doesn't effect JUST the Guild, it effects the community. If POTS leaves, that doesn't effect the Guild, that effects us all. Mugen creators WILL leave due to them. I have always heard "Infinity will kill Mugen" "blah blah blah", well if ANYTHING comes close to killing it, it is the Guild.

Being honest, I had given up on their Dante a while ago. When alexlexus came so close to making the project private when he released an extremely early beta the first time and found it warehoused, I knew it was a matter of time. All it was going to take was one screw up to piss them off and it would be gone. So I didn't get my hopes up. In fact, I pretty much knew it was the beginning of the end when they released the beta they did instead of just working on it until it was finished and then releasing it.you can't expect everyone to respect your wishes on the internet. yes, it would be a big twist, but it is almost obvious already that something like that is happening, seeing as I know several warehousers who are actually creators.

As for the "mass creator quitting" or boycotts? This has happened, and it has failed. My suggestion? A complete abandoning of the engine and a fresh start with Fighter Maker or a similar program.

Well perhaps the community was in need of a new set of rules...... :-\but this isn't ideal. As we speak there is a division growing within mugen message boards about this. As I said before some points made were right as far as trying to return fun to mugen and rid it of politics. I welcome that, but no order=chaos. Maybe heads of the major boards and high profile creators, as well as respected(ie:level-headed) players should get together and find a common ground not extreme to either side.

I understand, Jay; but it's useless to try forcing your views on what's "idiotic" and "unacceptable" upon others. Genghis Khan did it, and his empire eventually crumbled. We here at Infinity still stand and will continue to do business the way we do it here. If you are in need for some special edit of a character you know was unrequestable here, then go over there and get it. Keep it off our public boards and do not share it publicly here. We still have our own project, WIPs and everyday ongoings here. As you can see, we have not crumbled as a forum because of the changes. We are extremely upset because we feel like Infinity was completely and unfairly treated specifically by the Guild, but again, we are not crumbling and closing up shop nor are we stooping to the Guild's level of radicalism now. I want to continue to reiterate that MI does not affect what we have done nor continue doing here. As a matter a fact, I feel 100% better now because they do not have the crutch of the Guild to lean on now when they feel like they can't stand another forum because they warehouse anything. They stand alone. Same goes with DCvM. Regardless how their forum users continue to badmouth us calling US a warehouse and thieves, it will not affect us. We will always be willing to help with enforcing some sort of rule, but not like the Guild used to. I am immediately taking down our unrequestables list after this posting because now that several creators have turned to the dark side, there is no immediate way to know who is on what side. It should at least give you guys a little peace of mind when requesting, but we STILL do not want any public sendspace/megaupload/file sharing links out in the public unless they are to YOUR OWN creations. Everyone still thinking the MUGEN community is DOOMED because of this should look at history. We will not die as a "community" (not clan) no matter if the Guild and MI and "insert any MUGEN forum here" all change their policies and become open-sourced forums.
What I want is for everyone here to stop posting the same old thing. It's starting to get old. This topic now should be all about keeping us up-to-date with what is going on day by day over there.

I really do hope things stay the same here Excursion. I probably visit this board more than any other, and I remember how things used to be, and us getting blamed for it. It's nice to see that after the changes this site has undergone, and trying to wash itself of the reputation it garnered, all of that work won't be for naught. The fighting with other boards is old though, and I wish it would just stop, but that's mostly out of the normal users hands, since if any leaks are attributed to a single user, they can be banned. The "war" as it's being called, is between mods and admins and such, and hopefully there can be some middle ground that all forums can agre on and go about their business.
The sad thing is, casual users who enjoy mugen sometimes get dragged into all of this as far as blame and such goes, and it will be interesting to see how this all plays out. Let's hope Infinity and it's users just go about their normal business while on this forum.
And for the most part it is business as usual around here. The "war" you speak of between forum admins/mods are all grudges. The "war" is something respective forum staff either support and invigorate or just allow to be discussed and tolerated in their forums. When it comes to blows, they usually like to make a public spectacle about it. Take that aspect away, and you have no war (at least not in the public eye.)

I think all creators understand what would happen to their stuff if they publicly release it.
To avoid such problem some creators don't release their stuff publicly.
The team the released the Dante beta.....didn't understand. Their Dante as of now is private.
They did understand,
some stuff goes private because it fails in the process of WIP.
Sorry to qoute something old as I just got back, but they didn't understand. They went private NOT due to the fact it failed in the process of WIP, but someone warehousing it. If they understood what would happen to their Dante, they wouldn't have released a beta.

On the other hand, even as someone unable to create for the community, I understand the anger of certain creators at this. It is their creations that they pour hours upon hours into to create, and to see something you truely put yourself into either stripped of your name completely, shoved in an illegal warehouse, or mangled, in the case of those such as themadcook, you have to know that's going to hurt.

As it stands I thik the community needs to change some in terms of making the rules lighter. Not a free for all, or warehouse city...but something that is fair for all sides of the fence. And by that I mean the players, the rookies, and the full on creators. Forget the leechers, they apparently feel they 'won' at Guild.

The low blow is when they care little for respect. They'll go and PM respectable creators asking for private characters or the like, annoying them to death, and then, in the case of the Guild, think they're such hot stuff. Arrogance is the best term to describe a leecher.
What saddens me is that this line is not generally drawn by the MUGEN community in general anymore. Many of the best creators have begun to view all non creators as leechers, and in my case, considering I appreciate the stuff done, that stings somewhat.
All that aside, the rules have gotten very strict in general, so it could benefit from a little loosening up, but whether this will happen anywhere anytime soon is another story.

My take on the situation is one of disorientation. The Guild request forum is a madhouse with virtually no modding whatsoever going on. The mods in some cases are right in the mix of things. They should at the very least enforce some manners there. ;:)
Open source mugen isn't such a bad idea, it would help rookies out big time. Most of us are smart enough to know that super god evil ryu lvl.8 plays exactly the same as master ryu because some newbie creator lifted all of P.O.T.S. code. It's up to people who know better to give the credit to the source not the clone. The thing that makes it rough is that some creators are emotionally attached to their work, but this is a freeware game. I'm not getting a paycheck for my wip, if anyone is I need to know how so I can pay some bills. ;D But in all seriousness I play mugen because its fun, something I can do with my son whether it be for 20 min or 2 hours and enjoy. The rule book doesn't need to be burned, just refined and be a community of fun instead of bickering. I was planning for my wip upon completion to be the most opensourced char ever, even openly hosted. Would I be frowned upon for this? If it (my wip) turns out as good as planned I'd like for as many to enjoy it as possible. Why else would I upload it to the internet?

Why does it fail? Also what is the difference from stealing code from a char and stealing software which took alot longer to make. Or download a rom for a game that you do not own. No they said they would build a new one for windows. Tell me if you had release an engine for dos and someone hacked without your permission to be supported in windows and then support hi-res, what would you do? This is actually quite insulting dennis. We have tightened rules, no doubt, but we still promote and help new people in either getting their fix for characters/stages/etc or getting started with their own creations on top of releasing stuff from our own staff for a full game we are developing (I dont see the aforementioned forums doing that.)

Feel free to report a link to a site where members here are actually bashing other forums. If they are fingered as being from Infinity or if they have a rank of some sort here besides the usual Lurker/Initiate/Forum Member they will lose their rank standings here. Although some of you may not care about these titles (and so you shouldn't) some people take pride in them, and losing them because of something stupid like that is like a kick in the balls... but... you can't expect everyone to be an angel beyond Infinity. I can only really control what goes on in here at Infinity, not elsewhere.

Hold on....that's not right. That policing outside of the Infinity forums. It is still a punishment. You should only punish if they are doing it here. So if lets say some ranked Infinity member goes to a site and it isn't mugen, but there is a mugen topic there and insults a creator like Magus or KFM, they can be punished due to their opinion of them? Not everyone is gonna have a high opinion of those 2 or every creator. I understand if that Infinity member started huge problems in a forum or something, but to say a off handed comment like "That "insert creator" is a idiot." You are basically having Infinity members having to look out what they say anywhere. The forums rules here shouldn't extend to another forum. Let them bash on another forum. It shouldn't be your call or any admins or mods call if what a user says on another forum. Basically you can't talk our minds about mugen anywhere without punishment if it pertains negative comments towards a creator. You said you can effect their rank, you can also ban. This comment is VERY disturbing to me.

exactly...we shouldn't be stressing this 2 days later, like I said a few pages back, the mods at the Guild know what they're doing.... let their experiement go as it is, if you don't like it don't post/read there...and maybe we should have this convo again 6 months down the line, to see what it's effect really is in the Mugen world... that's my opinion on that
MugenChina's pretty much in the same boat as us: they don't like what Guild is doing one bit.
Hell, ain't nobody but warehouses, true leeches and those currently in power over there loving what's going on at Guild.

Rules are rules. There's no dictatorship here. There's no rules for posting at other sites. If you act cool here & rep Infinity as it being your main stomping grounds, then 9 out of 10 cases you will act cool at other forums. However, if you go out to attack others at other forums and Infinity is written all over you, what are the other members of that forum to think? "He's not a regular here, he's from Infinity! Damn, I hate Infinity because they keep attacking us!!!" And that's where feuds between forums begin.
Infinity's trying to run smooth here, and there's a lot of peace that almost all the members enjoy. Let's keep it that way.

Of course if someone said on behalf of Infinity. That is entirely different. If you talk on the behalf of Infinity that of course should be punished cause then you will get the forum in trouble. However you never stated that previously. I am talking about off handed comments. The entire context of what you or dennis was saying seemed to point out that if any member of Infinity stated something bad, they can be punished. Dennis pointed out, users go there to bash and you responded with this

That 1st half of that is what triggered my response to what you said. If you had just ment ranked members, ok, but you didn't. Sometimes I misspeak too and forget to edit my posts and the context of what I said can be viewed differently. However I have seen posts that weren't clear and the person cleared it up and it was the bad post I thought it was.
Of course I understand within the Mugen community that mods and admins have to be have some responsibility in what they say, but common users shouldn't be held to this. If people flame, they flame, it shouldn't be a punishment on here unless they do it here or they did it on the behalf of Infinity in another forum.
Ok lets say there is a Infinity forum member named Jimbob. He has been with Infinity for 8 months, kinda well known here, but doesn't have any kind of rank outside of what normal members have. He also kinda posts in the guild and MI and makes 2-3 posts about Infinity and defends it on either site if someone is bashing it. So, if I saw Jimbob on gaiaonline, stating in any kind of topic bashing 1 or 2 creators and/or a mugen community, would he get in trouble if someone reported him to you? Mind you he never ever stated that it is on the behalf of Infinity. You said

If Jimbob does indeed get in trouble, all he has to do is say "that's not me". You can't have irrefutable proof on the internet when it comes to this. I remember someone impersonated as Scar on Youtube. Anyone can impersonate anyone online. I know you could try to get someone IP address to see if it is that person or not, by asking a admin or something on a site. I doubt they would give it out. I had a pretty good reason to get bent out of shape, cause that statment basically said to me that you want to control what is said on other sites to a degree. If it comes to mods and admins, I understand, but anyone outside of that isn't a official staff of IMT shouldn't get in trouble. I just want to be very clear on this issue. I know this issue won't effect me, due to the fact I barely post about mugen on other forums or really insult anyone, but when it comes to fairness and treatment of members (on any forum I am in), I do feel like I have to say something.
Jay, the way it was worded, you can't have a off colored opinion about anybody or forum in the mugen community anywhere on the web expect in PMs. If Ex, meant just the staff ok, that is understandible, again much more responsiblity I guess. Regular members, no. I don't believe I should follow the rules of one forum when I am in another, unless I am a high ranking member (mod or admin), then in that case, of course what I say should be watched.

I think every one should leave this guild thing alone, warehousing, "stealing" give credit where credit is due, the "legit" side seem to hate that, saying that it won't work...why not? has it ever been tryied? it won't work because you won't let work. "Possible hate from the community" personally I don't care what the community thinks of me, I do what I want, if you,re hating over somthing like mugen, then I'll find a way to make you hate me more. proper credit or a "footnote in some readme file" is all creaters need, people will want to know the origins of a "stolen" creation and track down the original author and creation.It won't work because it never has, it has been tryed. Infinity was a former warehouse for a reason! About 2 years ago we had the same rules as the guild (the new guild), Infinity decided to stop warehousing simply because that style is failure. Guild did not upgrade, they downgraded. The community has been around for about 10 years, and warehouses have been shunned out for about that long. Warehouses DO fail. The community wasn't born yesterday.

Well aware of that, but people aren't even trying to see the bright side of things, "warehouses are evil" and all that "use the database" stuff I don't have time for any of that. most ppl don't, call it lazy, we are all sitting in frot of a computer clicking stuff.
