A little less known, but still awesome would have to be the Guardian from Guardian Legend. She literally took on an entire planet. If you've never played this game, I highly recommend grabbing an NES emu and the rom for this game.

Of course its megaman, if ya think about it, 10 games, 8 bosses, 3 to 4 final boss missions each. thats 90+ missions over a lifetime and thats not counting the other series. Megaman has been through more sh*t than a sewer rat. Megaman hands down. :)

i would pick snake myself but snake usually gets played and dose exactly what's been written for him by the bad guys, and some times he actually survives cus they want him to be alive so they could use him in some kind of a plan they have.
which means that he is stupid enough to get fooled every time and the bad guys are even more stupid cus he kills them at the end after they keep him a live.
this always happen in mgs actually, so luck is mostly on snake's side just like james bond.

-Ice beam
-Plasma beam, which penetrates through enemies and comes out the other side.
-Wave beam which passes through walls.
-A huge supply of missles without having to carry a missle launcher.
And thats just a few of the weapons. She has all types of upgrades to give her an advantage.

I'd have to say Joe Musashi, just because in the original version of Revenge of Shinobi he took down Godzilla, Batman, and Spider-man.
