After all the nice feedback form the sprite in my sig and my art thread ive decided im going to try (try real hard) to make Sniper Joe my first character.
Heres what ive got on the sprites so far

(old crappy image removed cuz it was crappy and big ~SpiderMew)

The old shield was too blurry form the resizing and i didnt want that lil window in there anymore, but it still feals like its missing something....


For those of you who dont know, Sniper Joe is the character form the mega man games that usualy guards a boss or 1up or some sort of nice item.
There are various kinds of sniper joe's
The look of mine is loosly based off of the Sniper Joe-01 from MM7

That´s right don´t put all the sprites you have...Mofoka leechers will stole your sprites,give you no credit and  release a char without consent...
Keep that in Mind and leave just a few sprites and the shield ones...
And good job...i hope he turns out as annoying as on the megaman games...:D

You should make sniper Joe have his buster out the entire time, like in the game. You can make him punch with the buster also!

You should make sniper Joe have his buster out the entire time, like in the game. You can make him punch with the buster also!

I thought that too for MVC Plantman... Then I thought about how weird it would look when he turned around :o

Not only was i thinking of using that, called Sniper Armor
I was thinking of using
The Apache Joe copter

Like how mega man used the beet plane.

And the other types of Joe's as strikers.

I wont relese anymore images till ive got them as screenshots mabie a few animations once in a while, but i wont relese enough to make a character.. (though apprently you can make a piece of poop character with 10 sprites)

Looks cool, but I think it needs the window. Makes it look less Medieval and more Modern in my opinion.

Definitely likin the new look, the gunarm looks good and the shield with the glass and the design looks really well done also.. Good work so far man, keep it comin. :)

Well thats how he was in the games, so im going to try to do that to keep in with the spirit of the character.
Of corse with other things there will be variations.

sniper? I only remember her having a handgun. She basically just uses one powerbar to charge it and the next time you input that command she shoots it.

When he shoots hes going to twist himself like this, its susposed to feal like, to get a good shot in he has to make him self open to attack (like in the games) Also it feals more aggresive this way(to me) then in the way it was done in MM7

Of corse there will be more frames to the movement to make it flow right, i just dont want to show those so no one can steal them...

He will be covering in his shield all the time(so he will be invulnerable while standing still)? If so, he have to use a little time after he shots to cover again, like in the Megaman games!

Thats what i was thinking of doing, when he's standing still it auto defends but when he shots there will be a bit of an opening, also when he does anything else like move he'll be open.
So he'll feal true to the orginal.

I like the usage of the shield, make shim feel more true to the original. Obviously you can simply make it so hes only invulnerable to frontal attacks when standin still or blocking. Of course attacks that come from the ground up should still get thru, but it would definitely force those old school projectile mashers to rethink their strategies. :) Great work so far..

Thanks for all your support guys!

Anyhoo after figuring out how to make sure gimp was using 256 colors and swiching it over to that, it added a bunch of extra pixils of different colors so ive got to go in and fix them (though my fireballs look fine and i think i dont need to retouch those).
I have about 40 sprites done so far. I should have the sprites for walking and jumping done in the next few days here.

Im going with smaller fireballs then say your standard ruy would have, and im not doing the big giant beam that allot of characters have. The smaller one is comming form one of Bass's shots from Power Fighters (no not the skull one, a smaller one) and the lv 1 hyper shot is actualy coming form Felica from Gem Fighters.

Sorry i havnt had allot of progress done so fast....
I have some problems with work and might have to be looking for a new job soon.
Also im almost finished with the frames for the walking animation, its just getting the shield on there.
But as soon as im done with the walking sprites ill try to get it coded  togeather and show yall a video.

I was actualy planing on having other types of Joe's as strikers, including Hammer Joe.
And a hyper movie (probly lv 2 or 3) that has a rush of all of them.  :)

Well he's going to have his Joe Buster and His Gernade toss.
I might give him some sort of uppercut or some sort of shield bash (one or the other, i dont want it to look like im coppying protoman) [even though in story the first joe's were based off of protoman]

and ill probly give him a striker outside of the Joe Rush hyper

And i was thinking about an escape kick, were he does the typical dashing kick, but backwards to get away from the enemy sheilding his back (be good for double matches when you get surrounded by enemys)


Cant realy think of much else besides that.

I was trying to do that, but mega man uses light blue where im using gray, and that in turn also made the area arround his monoeye light blue and it looked funny

Ok guys i need some advice.

Sence im working on mega man as a base he has lots of neet moves and stuff, but im trying to not make it look like all i did was recolor mega man and ive been trying to frakenspirte me some new moves, ive already finshed the punches and the light and med kick but im kinda not sure what to do for the heavy kick.

Mega Man's heavy kick is like, a donkey kick or horse kick. I dont want to do that cuz then im coppying protoman and mega man for stuff.

What do you guys think my 3rd kick should be.

When ive got all this done im going to try to code it into a very early beta and make a vid for yall.

Well, his heavy kick could be like Robert Garcia's strong kick, which I mean doing a 360° move with his leg, with would also hit the foe with the shield if he is very close to Joe.

Well yeah i noticed a few allignment problems, also it does that because ive been trying to figure out how to make it so that when he's standing still he's blocking, and i forgot to move the boxes back so it would connect, but dont worry i wont relese it till ive fixed atleast this much.

Sniper Joe has voices in Rockman Battle & Chase along with the rest of the Black Racing Team~  I can upload those if you want me to.  I just need to check the rest of the disk to make sure that I didn't miss any of the sounds~ Just PM Me, if you want me to rip those for you.

A: have a small energy thing come down and he blob up (like how mega man enters in the nes mega man games)

B: Or should he crash in on a bolt of dramatic lightning making him seem like a total cool...

Hmm...well choice A does good for most classic characters (Sniper Joe being one of my favs) however lightning bolt entrances are flashy and cool. I do have a C idea: It starts as just a  shield then it turns around to reveal Sniper Joe then he does a cool pose.

Well those are some good ideas, i may have to do 2 or 3 intros to try them out.

working on those right now.

Got a few more other spirtes done, and so far ide say im estamating by all the stuff i want to do that im mabie 10-15% finished, mabie less if i think of even more stuff to add.

As far as the intro, why use a beam? I mean while beam intro's do rock, don't get me wrong, I think Joe should stand out just a tad more. Considering he does have that grenade weapon, why not instead of a beam shooting down having say some grenades drop down and explode and as the smoke clears we see the shield facing us (as Joe is facing away), then he turns, looks at his opponent, and draws his shield off his back and goes into his sniper pose.. Maybe even you can throw in some sort of "target acquired" dialog when he spots his opponent and pulls out the shield.. I dunno, I've been offline for far too long and need sleep.. ;p Friggin great work so far tho man, keep it up..

Thats actualy more or less what i was thinking of doing at first, but i could never get the voices from Armored core: Master of Arena were super 9 ball (Nineball Sereph or jetboy to some) says "TARGET AQUIRED, COMMENCING HOSTILITYS!"
I was going to use that, and try to find a sound filtering program to make it sound different yet still understand able.

But i might just do that intro now too, cuz it is differnt, and i want to stay differnt enough

He looks great! The portrait looks great! The vehicle hypers will be great! Using the shield as a weapon...great!
As for the intro I would have to say 1. the classic intro has to be one of them.
You could also do a special intro against mega and maybe one against proto.

As for the Armored core sounds I'm sure someone here can rip them for ya ;).

Well im trying to work on allot of the basic animations, like the turning, ive got the ducking turning down i think but i might change it, im also trying to make sure i get the punching and kicking from ducking down..
And im thinking about letting him have a way of firing his buster ducking.
It just takes me a while cuz i have lots of things begging for my attention lol.

Yes, just standing still will high block for you, no need to hold down back at all.
No, at this time he cannot loose his shield, to counter this you can only block while standing up still, no air or low block at all. (im still learning, and thats a bit too complacated for me right now)

I thought about that, and I might go back and resprite all the basics to have that later, if i can find an open source Cap. America.
But not for this relese. When i undertand code a bit more i will.

Ever play Mega Man 4 and get to Skull Man's level, and there were those annoying guys who kept throwing bones at you, and nothing would kill them? They would just pick themselfs back up and keep fighting?

I think it would make a great Strength Training type bonus game. Like Sentinel Attack & Alien Attack.

This is my concept for their mvc style design. Im going to try to sprite it so that when you hit him, he falls apart, and stuff, even pulling himself back togeather when he jumps off afterward.
What do yall think? He's going to be used as a striker.

I think it would make a great Strength Training type bonus game. Like Sentinel Attack & Alien Attack.


I was actualy thinking of doing something like that, sence pots is open source. Mega Man enemy rush bonus.

Cuz with all the attention going to the bosses, the level robots need some love too  :thumbsup:


Looks great :w00t: .....by the way that enemy can be defeated using a charge buster maybe you can make something similar that the char can be defeated when the enemy makes an special 

I was thinking of trying to see if i can make that work like that.

I also have 3 other Joe's ive got to make the first sprite of so i know how im going to move along with making the strikers. I'll be showing those as soon as i finish them.

I have to give you mega props he is looking to be in my roster ;D.

When he is standing and he blocks a move with the shield he really needs that "dink" sound that he had in the megaman series. He wouldn't be the same without that sound.

This is Crystal Joe
According to the Rockman Perfect Memories guide book, Wily created these units mostly to build crystals to sell for the purpose of making money to fund his expenses, such as building fortress and mass-producing robots.

He comes form MM5

This is Piripari from the MMV (Rockman World V) game boy game.

Piripari (sometimes called "Electric Joe") surrounds himself with an electrical shield for a few seconds before discharging the shield into a forward-flying projectile. The shield protects him from all attacks while it's up.

Last but not least...
We have Joe Classic.

Now i know some people will say, whats the point, he's pritty much the same as the main version, but he will be used for a few things, like devices that are active while sniper joe is still running arround.

The Joe between Piripari and Joe Classic looks awkward. His legs and upper bosy aren't parallel.

Thats hammer joe, he was being made by Darktabian, but he's sence quit working on it.
Im probably going to have to re-do him, but i havnt tryed yet... Probably fraken him togeather using air man from powerbattles and some of mega man from mvc.

Agreed. They look awesome! Electric joe should come out and do an electric field move kinda like Necro's hyper in SF3.

Ive been playing with ideas for the armor for a while.

But dude, this is the very old wip topic, even the release topic (yeah he's out) is really old.
And if you read you'll see that ive been planing on using it for a long time.
