What are your gameplay plans for Joker?

He mentioned to me that he's using Arkham rips of Mark Hamil (at least I think it's Arkham)

Hey everyone, thanks for the kind comments. I'll try and go through and respond to certain posts

I hope he'll incorporate some of Oswald's movements in there, they were frigging legendary   :thumbsup:

Thanks for reminding me. It'll be a bit of work but Oswald has some great animations for Joker

I am trying to find the reference you have based your design off, is this the old Unlimited WIP?

Can i suggest you add more detail, like separate the shirt into a vest and shirt (he usually wears a 3 piece suit) white/purple gloves and a smaller beau tie? I am sure you will make a smart pal for awesome versions!

The Joker has had so many variations of his costume over the years. As for specifics, I guess Hush/TAS would be the closest. I might try it with the vest via colour separation but can't make any promises. Gloves are colour separated and can be any colour you want. I quite like the large bow tie though. I think the colours also make a huge difference, so many variants of purple!

And the face,,, very hard to get right! IMO the nose is the hardest bit, but also because working with a white face can be tricky.

Navs41 did an amazing job on his face here - I love it!

Great to see at least one part of Unlimited's old project alive :)

Very quick tips on how to improve the animation- look them up closely to see what I changed :) (added one frame and changed the head of another + adjusting fixes)

Also, watch out for shadows --> see the left leg and how the frames seem to jump just because they were not shaded like the ones before? The stance frame seems to have less detail than the rest/ there seems to be a unfinished part on the left leg that pops out in the animation
+the back part of his suit could need some smoothing out in the animation, but I'm not sure if you care for that

Concerning the Gun Shot - the retreat part needs a frame or two :)

Amazing, thank you. I was concerned that he looked lifeless and I think just adding another frame and playing with the timing really helps. I shall try and apply what you've done here to other animations too.

RE the shadows on the legs - this is actually how it is on Rugal, I've not edited the legs apart from making them thinner. However I see what you mean and shall improve upon what is there, thanks.

I'm always open to help!

Yeah it'll be Mark Hamill. I can record his voice from the Arkham games (same way I did for Ivy - you can turn off all sounds apart from the voices, run the audio via my laptop and record from there). Plus his DCUO voice rips are all on Youtube. I can't imagine another person as Joker!

As for his gameplay - to be honest not entirely sure. Injustice Joker bores me.... But he'll have his staple moves - gun shot, flower acid, joy buzzer counter, crowbar. I'm really open to suggestions, along with bases for said moves. 

But as for what type of character (trap, rushdown, zoner, grappler) I'm really not sure. We need variety in Gotham Knights characters and Ivy has the trap and zoner playstyle down.....

Slowly, slowly. Currently really thin on spriters and Batman is a must have character in the Gotham Knights game! There was so much done on him but Scruffygate meant that he was being completely redone with Navs doing amazing work really making his quality level insanely high.

You could have variations for the flower squirting. One of them spraying Joker gas to stun opponents. I also remember one DCAU episode where he had explosive marbles, could make some decent OTGs. And didn't he have a summon in that old Gotham Knights trailer?

Decided to toy with adding the vest and making the ribbons on the bow thicker. Also found a better way to shade the torso (highlight on ribcage, none on stomach). I also moved the flower higher up on his lapel. I was worried it would be too crowded with the bow but it works quite nicely

I'll play with using colour separation on the torso some more so there are no seams between the vest and shirt



As for helpers, I'll probably scrap them for Joker. Potentially a Joker gang hyper and the rest in intros/wins. Maybe even Captain Clown....

He needs the explosive teeth too I suppose. And the bang flag.

*A banana peel that can trip up enemies
*A yoyo with a buzz-saw in the middle

...I'm trying to come up with something that isn't too obvious and that you haven't mentioned already

Also u can have Bud and Lou as helpers!!  :)

Plus u can use the Joker vehicle in a winpose or intro!! :)

This Joker is just amazing. Maybe (but it's a personal taste) a bow tie less "fluffy" like in the picture below could help to look less "crowded"

Sorry to bump this up, but I had some ideas.

I've always been bad with fighting game terminology, but I think a trapping or zoning character may work since Joker wouldn't be so physically fit compared to the other fighters.

I was looking at Kizuna encounter, and the Joker character has a present and jack in the box move, that got me thinking of a mechanic that could be either a special, or pushed into a hyper.

I was thinking him kicking out a present box, but when it opens, it could have some sort of debuff (Joker toxin, a fake out with nothing, a bomb,  glue)

Other ideas:
"I love a parade: Anti-air, Joker throws hands up and confetti flies out, but little razors are mixed in with them. Strength decides amount or razors/ duration

Life's a stage: Joker bows and a joker gang member appears from the top of the screen to hook opponent upwards, allowing for follow up attacks.  Similar to Rolento's use of El Gado and Hollywood.

I'll try and whip up some rough ideas to illustrate what I mean.

Joker has a history of shooting his gun from his blimp or a  get away helicopter. That can be a hyper move similar to Zvitor's Jason Todd shooting from a plane.

Joker has a random chance on some of his moves for a different effect to happen
For instance, his HP sometimes has the fish instead of the crowbar which causes a trip and drains P2 power meter. His gun sometimes shoots the bang flag

Joker's weakness is the air, he has no decent anti air (CHP is closest) and no air specials. He can however cross up with his JHK, and has a mix of high, low projectiles, with his gun having a variety of speeds to it (and can be delayed when held). His crazed run hyper lets him get in close with its super armour and his joybuzzer counter always keeps P2 on edge.

Joker Toxin - Close range projectile that causes dizzy on hit
