Title: Needleman
Post by: laspacho on December 23, 2010, 01:55:41 PM
Needleman will be my new Wip next year once I finish up Woodman.  My eyes needed a change up so I started working on him for a bit before I go back and finish up Woodman.    ;*))
"Mostly" I have just been doing sprites to setup the ground work so I can have all the parts I need to easily make everything when I start full force on making him, but I've done a few other things too.
Thanks to Batzarro for making that first sprite of Needleman, which I used parts from and based my design on.

I've had a few ideas for some attacks! One of them could be where he uses those spikes on his head to lauch loads of needles into the sky, making a needle rain of some sort

That gives me an idea!
A really evil thing you could do would be to program a move where he throws a needle at the screen, thus blocking your view and making you fight with this big needle and a crack in your screen, it would be something only the computer would be able to do.

Then metools and firemetools come out, remove the needle and melt the glass to fix it, depending on how powerful you make the move would just mean how long does it take the metools to come out and fix the damage. For extra evil, everything else that isnt a crack and a needle could flash beteween normal and static.

Evil indeed :)
I'm really glad that Needleman would be new wip! I have one move idea for him - he grabs opponent, trows him in air and then headbutt.

not one player only ...
That would do more harm than good ...  :|

Thanks,
Yes, it's Elecman.  I sprited half of Elecman with Akito-Samma spriting the other half and O Ilusionista coding it.  Slowcar48 contributed with a few sprites too which I converted.  That was a cool team effort.

why would it be computer only? I think it's a great ideaki. It blocks the view for both players. It's a ahole of a move but it works against both players.

Not bad-looking, I have to say. With your fine work, Laspacho, I won't be worried about robot masters getting left out.

Also, I have an intro idea; Needle Man falls head first into the ground (from a diagonal direction), then uses his arms to pull himself out of it (as his head needles broke his fall).

Just out of interest, why was Needleman weak to Gemini Laser in Megaman 3?

Go figure...

By the way, some ideas:

* Use the Headbutt he uses in megaman 3;
* He jumps and throws three needles to the ground, like Zantetsu in Last Blade;
* He pounds the ground and a big needle fall over the opponent, like Jazu in KoF XI.

I figured it would piss off buttonmashers who do it axidently, but then i guess it would be a good idea to let players do it so buttonmashers... learn... how.. to... not mash buttons....

Needleman jumps into the air and covers the ground in small needles that stand up. So that whenever the opponet walks or lands they take damage!

I was thinking about his attacks, my ideas are:
- he shoots 3 needles rapidly forward
- he shoots 3 needles in ark |/_
- he shoots one big needle that'll stuck in screen's edge(if not hits enemy) and becomes jumpable platform for some time
- he shoots 1-3 needles up in ark and they lands on ground flying in ark | \
- as hyper he could be like cowboy shooting 3 needles from one arm, then from other changing his arms 2-3 times.

A small update. I have still been working on Needleman... just slower then I wanted.
I have 6 standing attacks, 5 ducking attacks, started air attacks, run, jump, dashes, intro, and a winpose done. Not much added with Fighter Factory at the moment, as I'm mostly just trying to concentrate on just the sprites for the moment as my time has been limited to draw. Whenever I finish the basic attacks I'll probably start adding more stuff in for screen shots.

Glad to hear about progress on Needle Man
Are those weapons decided already or you need some ideas?
While typing message idea of one weapon crawled into my head - bubble with bomb similar, similar to Burst Man, but instead of trapping enemy inside of it it just contains needles that will spread in 8 directions on contact with enemy/top of the stage/left or right edge of stage. Moving pattern could be sinusoidal moving straight on light version(oh man, I forgot - could those moves have 3 versions as normal specials), same on medium, but wider wave and moving slower(might explode also on time), heavy - moving like Burst Man's bubble - wavy slowly up-forward. :-??
Not a bad one? Use it if you like :cool

Never thought of that, it might fill a power set slot nicely.

I have the blocks and get hit done..  On to the knock backs!

Nicely done.
I was thinking about weapons and there could be leaf shield with needles instead, not rolling forward like leaf one, but flies to direction needles are pointing.
Also looking at Fou's avatar reminded me of Kirby's power in Kirby 64 when you combine electricity and needles he becomes a lighting rod(he becomes big needle and thunder strucks him) maybe Needle Man can do the same by standing still and moving his top up? Versions could have different waiting time and area of damage i.e. light - fast and lighting and himself, medium - slower and +bit of ground near him, heavy - slower then medium and more ground near him, like 1/4-1/3 of visible screen. :-??

Title: Re: Needleman
Post by: ExeLord on March 26, 2012, 11:56:22 AM
Yeah, I'm actually surprised that those came to my mind :P It's not easy to suggest moves for robot masters.
In Kirby on Wii was needle roll, but that's hard to imagine for Needle Man. The only other decent idea was related to Sword Man - grow big needle and use it as rapier(or even lance?) for stab hit with 1/2/3 hits for l/m/h versions.
I'm thinking in the way "what if Needle Man copied/learned attack from other robot masters, how will use it?".

Well, that happened again, new idea got into my head while typing - needle wall(from Stone Man), l - breakable with one hit wall of needles appears in front of Needle Man, vanishes after 6 sec. m - same but moves forward, h - 2 walls - in front and behind and moving sideways.
I'm not saying that they are best ideas, but there's nothing bad in having ideas to chose from ^-^

Ok the basics are done.   #:-S (http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu177/lasp69/Needleman_laugh_laspacho.gif) (http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu177/lasp69/Needleman_laugh_laspacho.gif) (http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu177/lasp69/Needleman_laugh_laspacho.gif) (http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu177/lasp69/Needleman_laugh_laspacho.gif)
I didn't do what I originally planned to do for the getting up sprites.  (Which was rip off Megaman)  But I came up with a different simplistic way to sprite Needleman to to do it, which suits the purpose.
Now, on to the fun stuff.  I have some ideas of my own too.  :)

Thus far Needleman has these completed for moves:
1)  A Needle cannon forward completed.  Shooting sprites are done, and I just re drew a real nice looking Needle to shoot.  I'm thinking a diagonal up is in order to sprite too.
2)  The spiked head attack forward is completed.  I suppose I can sprte one diagonally up too..
3) Jump off wall shoot.  I have some unfinished, not quite right, reject sprites that are not used.  It kinda looks like with some work I think I can turn it into something neat.

Moves Suggested so far in prior pages:
1)  Uses those spikes on his head to lauch loads of needles into the sky, making a needle rain of some sort.  (Might make a good hyper.)
2)  He grabs opponent, trows him in air and then headbutt.  (I like this, it would make a nice throw)
3)  He jumps and throws three needles to the ground, like Zantetsu in Last Blade.  (I like this idea.)
4)  He pounds the ground and a big needle fall over the opponent, like Jazu in KoF XI.  (Just looked this up, not sure of it makes sense or not.)
5)  Needleman jumps into the air and covers the ground in small needles that stand up. So that whenever the opponet walks or lands they take damage! (Sorry I think think would be cheap.)
6)  Bubble with bomb similar, similar to Burst Man, but instead of trapping enemy inside of it it just contains needles that will spread in 8 directions on contact with enemy.  (This will work great as a power set move.)
7)  Use the weapon of Knightman.  (I dunno he could shoot a spiked ball for a power set move..)
8 )  Video showing needleman grab a big needle.  (Hmm need to think about this one, might work out as a hyper.)
Title: Re: Needleman
Post by: Afterthought on May 02, 2012, 07:18:07 PM
They all sound cool. What if he summons a giant needle-lancer and gouges the opponent? Or he could make a needle shield, like Cutman's scissor shield. I personally think the needles-on-the-ground thing could work; just limit it to like two needles at a time. I'm sure there's a way to limit the amount of time you can use it.

You could also use Super Geon from King of Monsters 2 for reference!

Check out Needleman's basics.  I recently added all the sprites into the sff.  I'm quite happy to show it off after working on this for so long.  Thanks Excursion for recording this video for me.
Enjoy.

Man, that's really cool
At first I couldn't see it well and thought that thing coming out of busters is curled pike-head,but looking closer it wasn't ;*)) (which is great) Also like that "oopsie" kick kinda reminds me of clown stepped on banana pill :)

Have you added even the required ones?

Yes all required ones added.
Needleman is now my new favorite punching bag until the specials and hypers get coded.  I still need finish some more sprites though.  I'm getting really close to finishing.

And why not?

@Laspacho: and about its power sets?

And why not?
Because I think, that every MM3 robot master, that others are working on, should be released at the same time, since they appeared in the same game...

But it's almost finished. I'm curently working on his 4th hyper, and after that, only some of his powersets are left.

Honestly I haven't thought to much about that yet.  I know I want to put a needle in a bubble for one power set, and for another maybe have him shoot a skiped ball.  Other then that I'm just trying to sprite different shooting poses for whatever projectile I end up using for that power set.  I'm open for suggestions if there is a suiting weapon to fill a slot.

Edit:
Now that I'm thinking about it, with all those nice needle angles some power sets could be some different needle shots.  Like different angles and shooting some  muilt shot needles using all those nice sprites you posted.

I only though, you would like to know about the process...

I have your Topman already, I remember I fixed something on it :)

What about to use Knight Man's weapon?

* He makes a big needle and uses it as a stabbing weapon (just like Super Geon in King of Monsters 2);

* A needle trap on the ground that hurts when stepped over.

He can shoot needles to upward, which  can fall on the enemy head

To make people weary to rush him a move where a lot of needles protrude from all over his body and retract.

Welp, and I used your bug fix version and not the original one...
...and by the way, thanks for fixing the old bugs, so I could concentrate on making new stuff!
