MvC3 Combo System
« on: April 04, 2011, 12:58:04 AM »
Hey guys. Some time ago, I was thinking about the possibility of adapt the MvC3 Combo System into MUGEN (discard teams now, just with a basis of 1 on 1). However, I haven't had the chance to play it, so I'd like to hear some opinions from those who have played it.

- Basics behind it.
- What's possible, what's not.
- Special cases.
- Juggles
- Magic Series division (if exists, like in previous games).
- Any other point I forgot to post and it's relevant.

The more info you could post here about it, the better :).

mvc3 controls are simple.

one button for light attack (like a light punch or kick. Say, for Magneto he has his light punch, but no light kick.)

a medium attack similier with the light attack. HOWEVER some character have a basic who's commando is Forward of back and medium, to do a different medium attack I.E. Akuma's Medium is an Axehandle kick. Pushing forward and medium makes him do this downwards chop.)

Hard attack, Exactly like Medium, except with hard.

and a special button. Which is a launch on the ground and a knockdown move in the air. also characters like wolverine where you had to push P+K to do a move like drill claw, have been change to any attack button + Special.

this also applies in the air and crouching.

so, basic air combo is: L,M,H,S, up, L,M,H,S.

It's basicly TVC with a launcher button.

As far as chaining combos, most chain regularly L, M, H, S into air combo. Most mission-mode training in the game has air combos as M, M, H, S. So a standard attack combo would be L, M, H, S, jump into M, M, H, S. Some characters (usually lighter like X-23 or Joe) can chain extra like Standing L, crouching L, Standing M, Crouching M, Standing H, Crouching H, S (Which is more TvC style) in to the air combo.

I would recommend watching Character Mission Training videos.

If I may add, the liedown times are so ridiculous that OTGs become frivolously easy to pull off.

don't forget that MVC has a ground launcher, which you executes on air and send the p2 to the ground, making it bounce.

If I may add, the liedown times are so ridiculous that OTGs become frivolously easy to pull off.

But you can only do one OTG per combo, and the ground bounce O Ilu mentioned also counts as the one OTG for the combo (I'm pretty sure). Once the combo is over then the OTG counter resets and you can through it into your next combo (only once again).

Another aspect of L->M->H move cancelling too is that you can pre command, that meansyou can press L->M->H as fast as you can and the character will still go through the whole chain, not overriding M by the H simply because H was pressed while L still hasn't cancelled into H yet. This makes exact timing of the simple combos less necessary compared to just getting the button pushes out there. Timing comes into play as you get more introcate combos that require assists or special moves.

Maybe just the juggle system, that's why I'd like to know the most I can about it.
