Hi, I´ve been playing mugen for many years I have over 400 elite characters I don´t download everything I see I test them before adding them specially the quality of the sprites, and I have been waiting for a good Doomsday since the creation of Superman (from Kal´El I think) but nothing, so sometimes you have to do things by yourself. I have never made a Mugen character before but I have some drawing skills so I can do the sprites part but I will sure have problems with the code so if anyone have any tutorial that would like to share, I would be very thankful, also if ou have a tutorial about "pixel art" cause I am not used to draw at this scale.

That is very very nice. Saving as .jpeg ruins the quality also.  Save as .png next time.

Also is that from scratch? He's still way to big though.  You may want to compare his size to other mvc characters and then draw him from there.  Scaling him down would probably ruin the quality. 

You could also try using different capcom characters as bases and see what you can come up with.

Lasher: the image is scaled I exported a hulk sprite and then based on his size  I made him, I think hulk was like 150x140 px this guy is actually 160x160px

ALEXZIQ: No, it´s completly original, although I do checked before that game to see how he looked like and if I could use anything from it but that Doomsday barely moved.

The shading & everything looks excellent . I am hating on his head though . His face looks too " cartoony " He actually looks " cute " instead of menacing .

Darktalbain, thanks for the crit but I really don´t find him cute,are ou sure you understood his face ? there´s a lot going on there specially in the eye, cause it has two bones on each side.

I definately understand what's going on with his face . I was working on Doomsday some time ago . Due to a hard drive failure , I lost a lot of work so I scrapped him . So I get the bones through the eyes , teeth bones & facial spikes .

Your Doomsday is way better than mine . But the face makes him look like a big gray teddy bear to me . He's just so d*mn cute , we could market Doomsday stuffed toys that look like this  ;*))

I recommended you use the Scruffy Dragon Template at the DCvsMarvel Mugen site. it will make it alot easier than coding him from scratch. Not to mention he is DC. Awesome sprite BTW. :thumbsup:

When I draw People always go like "dude that´s to sick" , but cute? this is the first time
I will see what I can do to fix this cute problem, maybe when the stand animation is completed he will look better,

One problem I see is how you have him blended into the background with darker pinks blending into the black. Put the sprite on screen and youll see what I mean. He will show up with a partial pink outline all around him, where the pink darkens. Only the immediate pink color will appear invisible, and the darker shade will stay visable on screen.

Now that I'm really looking at it , I think it's the eye . The way it's sprited it almost gives an anime look to it . Which is where the " cute " factor comes in .

 Cause I didn´t knew how to start I made him on Rgb and then I transformed it to index color in Photoshop, there are two layers the background and the character, what I do is that I put the background transparent then I  make it Indexcolor and replace the background color with another one in his case pink , and there is no more pink border this is actually the RGB version that´s why you see the border

Those dark rings aren't dark enough , makes it look like all eye . Maybe it's just my laptop . This monitor shows everything  Nevermind, it's probably just me.

If I don´t start putting goals I will never finish this so my next update will be for next monday and it will be the stand and crounching completed, and the first walking sprites.

BTW is it possible to make an animation while crounching?I am at work, and don´t have my mugen around or any fighting game and I really don´t remember if any character do that I don´t want him just to crounch and stay still.

I am making both of them .

Medieval Spawn is all my creation

The regular Spawn was made by ER . he's a creator that has been around since almost the beginning of mugen . He was making Spawn , got caught up in life & other things   , so he never finished him .  Recently after seeing my Medieval Spawn , ER passed his Spawn onto me & gave me permission to finish him

Things were slow for the Spawn's , as Wolvenom took precedence . Wolvenom is pretty much complete , so back to Spawn's . I was actually just working on Medieval sprites a few minutes ago . The regular Spawn sprites will probably be edted with bigger spikes more like I did for my avatar .

I agree , don't let people persuade you to make him MVC style . Follow your vision . I did with my first character Hobgoblin . I still hear comments that he's not MVC style . But for the most part everyone liked him & I made he look like he jumped out of a  Mcfarlane comic , which was my gol to begin with .

That´s exactly what I wanted from the beginning, to make a unique character but I have to say that MVC is my favourite style so when I was making him MVC was in my mind  thanks. <_<|...|?? does anyone known if DoomsDay has claws ? cause I just noticed that I haven´t even draw him nails I thin I´ll have to  <_<|google| that up.

Artistic interpetation . But from when I researched when I was creating him , most of the artists just drew him with normal fingernails . He has those bone spikes on his knuckles that do the damage .

Yes is going to be really tough, but he is not that much detailed as you may think, and I know a few tricks that will help me out. besides I know this will take me over a year to finish there is no hurry.

He looks absolutely fantastic. Really loving the design on him. I wouldn't change a thing and I really don't see many others doing do either. Hoping to see a lot more progress on him. Trully great stuff. :thumbsup:

Yeah, I couldn't agree with Alex more on this. I can almost hear the whining that is sure to come about how he doesn't look like a Capcom sprite.... When they start, just ignore. IMO, the look you've got for ol' Doomsday here blows away most MvC-style spriting and fits this character perfectly. I'm dying to see how this one will shape up.

As for coding, I say don't worry about it for now. Once you show enough sprite progress on this guy, I'm sure you'll have plenty of offers from people willing to help you on that end. If you'd prefer to learn to code him yourself, I'd do like someone else in this thread already suggested, and get yourself a good template - it will cut out a lot of the basic coding for you. After that, just go into the "docs" folder in your MUGEN, and start reading. There's a lot there, but if I'm actually starting to make sense of it then it must not be that hard!

thanks for all the nice comments that I haven´t been able to answer, really thanks.
O k here are some updates but there is a problem I made the gif animation with the RGB images and I didn´t had enough time to make it 256 colors (by the way they work fine in 256 colors I have tested them randomly with the same palette)and some of the quality was lost, and the border looks kind of rough, it is 150% scaled so you can see some details but I will be posting single sprites later even bigger.
I still haven´t done the animation when he is already crounched

Very nice dude.  The problem is that Mugen doesnt accept RGB images so it will have to be 256 colors.

Good work man, good work at all!

Yeah, Mugen runs with 256 color paletted images. To avoid loss of detailes, you should draw the sprites TWO TIMES BIGGER than the final size then, on Mugen, we scale down to 100% back. This gives much more detail than to make on 100% scale right from the start.

The work is very nice. I think its a bit darker, but its my taste.

Ilusionista : Thanks for the advise but the lost of quality was because I made the gif with the RGB sprites not with the 256 color mode, for the scale he is not huge but he is kind of bigger than the average so it can be scaled down a little bit.


Please if anyone has some references images or anything about Doomsday with and without his suit please let me Know, specially from his 1993 first appearance witch I think is the best one.

relax man,I wont quit unless somehow I loose my hand or get blind, but I have an anouncement to make, things might get a little slow till May cause I have to make a proyect to graduate from college  I just found this out we call it here the ¨Tesis¨I have to make a Multimedia CD of 2d tutorials but don´t worrry I will continue posting updates constantly, only not that often but after May I will dedicate my entire free time to DOOMSDAY!!

I got it, but what I'm taling about is to make this char a High Resolution char. This is done, like I said before, drawing the char 2x bigger than it will be, then, on Mugen, we scale it down to 1x.

If I do remember well, his final size (scale 50% from the size of your actual draw) is something like Hugo from SF3 for sure.

I wanted to make him High res at first but he wouldn´t look good with the MVC characters or with Superman, specially with him besides not everyone play with High res Mugen or knows how to change the resolutiion, and in the low res version the High res scaled down characters look too jagged

Yes , he can turn before he walks . Those sprites will not be in the walking loop . They will have to be in a seperate animation & coded to go with the walk sprites .

well his original color is not exactly gray, but after watching him on that stage with superman I think he is too brown,, so, I will changeit maybe.

Ohh, by the way sorry for not posting anything recently but last week I went on vacations for the new year hollydays

hmm your artwork does look very good but if you are going for a mvc look I think the shorts are way to detailed I mean it looks really good but if your going for mvc style capcom doesnt detail that much if you have it in a png file i can edit it and show you what I mean.

Thanx , but I still get PM's from people to this day that I should resprite him exactly MVC look . I made him to look like a McFarlane drawing & that's what I accomplished  In my opinion .  Which reminds me I have an update to release of him one day if I can find it  :-??

You're kidding me , right ? Did you download the updated version of Hobgoblin from July 4th ? He doesn't even play like Green Goblin anymore .

Yep

I will say that Hobs did have a problem where his eye color was attached to the shading, so it detracted from the sprites. I went through and recolored every eye in Fighter factory with the pencil on a differant color tile so the shading could have its own color. The sprites are much sharper with a brownish shade, instead of Red. After a New stance is made when DT has time, Im sure it will be re-released to the public. I think there is one bug I have to fix though with a Demogoblin thing.

anyway this is a tad >:-(-|

1) This is probably one the most ignorant statements , I may have ever seen anyone make in my entire life . why ?

2) Jim Lee has never drawn Hobgoblin .

3) Apparently you can't read either , because I mentioned who did .

Now onto statement that is even less intelligent than the Jim Lee part

5) You don't like him ? Why don't you create a Hobgoblin & sacrafice months of  your life spriting to show me how it's done .  :thumbsup:
