Mayor Mike Haggar by Acey

A few spriters had started to make Haggar but never finished. I decided it was about time that someone did and in the process used sprites from some of my predecessors. My biggest delay was making all the sprites match the same style and when you're taking sprites and shrinking them down, you have ALOT of clean up to do; in the end I ended up replacing most of the older work anyways.

Considering that Zangief was made based on Haggar and replaced Haggar early on in SFII there are a lot of similarities between the two. Capcom wrote it into Zangief's history claiming that the two are rivals who often steal moves from each other. With this in mind I would like to point out that Haggar is not a Zangief clone, and I hope you all fell that way too.

Haggar Stage by x-boy

x-boy has been one of the greatest people to work with in Mugen, I just wish both our natural languages were the same, but never the less he has been kind enough to let us use this stage he created in the SMvC project for Haggar. My favorite part is walking to the right and watching the statue of liberty as it changes from night time to morning.

AMAZING JOB ACEY!!! Haggar is a beast. You did an awesome job making this character and seems like you put a lot of time and effort into this release. Thanks again for another great character.  :thumbsup:

Nice, only two minor complaints.

The standing HP animation could be a lot smoother, and both Haggar and the opponent are sort of pulled back after the Flying Lariat hyper.

Also, he totally is a Zangief clone... He's just supposed to be, so it's okay. Making a Ken without a Shoryuken and Hadouken so that he wouldn't be a 'Ryu clone' would be equally as stupid. They're similar characters, no worries.  :thumbsup:

Agreed. ^^(PM)^ Haggar has a justifiable story-related reason to be a clone, so it's okay! :thumbsup: Fighting games all come with their own clones.

If it matters, the only thing that differentiates him from Zangief is his pipe. :P That, and his appearance (obviously  ;)).

Also, Haggar's voice is PERFECT!  =D>:w00t:

Great release Ace, have a suggestion I notice when Hagger does his Lariat and SPD he doesn't say anything and there are no wind effects during either move even though they were prevalent in Zangief's. You should consider adding them.

Excellent work here!   The Final Fight elements were implemented very well and look great.  Love the pipe move.   Also the fact that Haggar can walk around with his opponent after he's grabbed them brings back fun memories of playing Final Fight back in the day.   Thanks alot for this release.  Any plans to have him have special intros for Cody and Guy?

Haven't had a chance to check out any new releases for about a month or more now and it won't change 'til a week or so from now. Just wanted to say thanks for all the releases though and can't wait to get the chance to check this all out at once. :)

If you ask me, this would work better as a winpose (with both of them adopting the pose they do on the photo at the start of Final Fight, of course ;)).

testing as i type this. his spinning piledriver move is weired when missed he does a punch. he does not combo well on the ground so far. i was only able to chain his three kicks together. it is possible to hit mp into hp but its soooooooo hard and u have to be right next to the opponent. he will also be in my quick vid.

A character that has been long overdue. I don't get why people put so much time into making all these ryu/ken/akuma clones, when they should have been working on more of the other Capcom Characters.

Now let's see someone make Travis Touchdown (I know he's not capcom), Mask De Smith (Killer7), Batsu (Rival Schools) and a decent Axel (Streets Of Rage).

Thanks for the fun character. The sprites also look fantastic, and I like the moves you've given him as well.

Some kick hit sparks seem to be misaligned (light kick, medium kick and his jump in hard kick), and his piledriver, along with his suplex, seems to only be able to go one way. Lots of fun still, though. =]

Nice char, I love hin on classic games, but still miss some bugs to be fixed

Report: when Hagar going to trow and walk the oponente on cpu vs cpu, there are a bug, and don't hapen nothing.

Yeah, I know you're working a lot on different characters. This is really a great job so far. I guess it might be kind of silly to report anything, since you already have the bug report thread with a lot of all ready helpful feedback. =]

Well after both playing with him and fighting against him here's my Review ^_^

Pros: his sprites are great though his holding the pipe COULD do some more work
he has somewhat aggressive AI
ITS A FINISHED HAGGAR!

Cons:
well when fighting him if he blocks and uses the guard push he'll go RIGHT into the grab animation until you hit him
ONLY 2 supers T_T I miss his maximum bomber from Nam X Cap (Lol that's my personal issue so meh)
his grab opponent is practically useless besides gaining a free hit (my suggestion make the grab into a special where a certain button does something diff. ex grab + HP = Headbutt ^_^)

all in all seeing how theres not that many problems found in this FINISHED HAGGAR!
I'll give it a B+ Keep up the good work hope to see some improvements in the next update

I think the stage boundary is set higher than the amount of stage that exists and needs to be lowered.

That's my fault as I gave the stage boundaries and velocities a once-over for the last beta update and overextended this stage.

Acey, I was a bit bored this morning and started tweaking that incomplete stage...BTW, who's the author...X-Boy? From the .def I can tell he's french, but I don't recognize him from any of the mugen forums....and more importantly...Did he drop this stage...or is he still working on perfecting it? I just don't want my work to be put to waste, that's all.

I'll let you know when I'm done, but it'll probably be by the end of this weekend.

Well...if X-Boy is still going to be working on that stage, I don't think I should keep tinkering with it unless his doesn't support Super Jump and Flying....which apparently the released one does, but has many unfinished sprite flaws due to the height of the stage being taller.

This stage is actually one that they ended up not using for the Final Fight Project so they're letting us use it for EoH.

Something else wrong with the stage.  If you wait long enough, once it becomes mid-day, part of the sky is blue, while the other part is stuck at dusk looking like 2 skies over each other.

Acey: I figure you probably read this forum more than the others, but I won't repost stuff I already said.

Look at the responses to this thread. How many people say they like it AND THEN say they will download? It doesn't make sense. For the few that actually tried him out, they like him because he's the missing link in the Final Fight trilogy; basically, for nostalgia. In the 6 pages of this thread I only read like 3 people mention that he has gameplay issues. Only ONE person mentioned he looks like Hulk. Again, it's an issue about standards. And BTW, Sorry, but I don't have to "live with it." It got evicted off my computer.

This is my last post on this char until the next update, which I hope is huge.
My final feedback is that His sprites are not good. I cannot have him in my mugen because looking at him causes my eyes to hurt. My recommendation is, before you even fix sounds and code, please spend some time fixing sprite issues (the proportion is the most important). Thanks and good luck.

His sprites look fine to me. They were already re-sized from Hulk sprites. But hey, it's your opinion. :-??

Well after both playing with him and fighting against him here's my Review ^_^

Pros: his sprites are great though his holding the pipe COULD do some more work
he has somewhat aggressive AI
ITS A FINISHED HAGGAR!

Cons:
well when fighting him if he blocks and uses the guard push he'll go RIGHT into the grab animation until you hit him
ONLY 2 supers T_T I miss his maximum bomber from Nam X Cap (Lol that's my personal issue so meh)
his grab opponent is practically useless besides gaining a free hit (my suggestion make the grab into a special where a certain button does something diff. ex grab + HP = Headbutt ^_^)

all in all seeing how theres not that many problems found in this FINISHED HAGGAR!
I'll give it a B+ Keep up the good work hope to see some improvements in the next update


Man he needs mush more than that. He definetly needs more hypers as u mention, but is not the only thing, he also needs more special moves. Another thing, Y not give him more things to use like a nife' a sword and others. I consider Hagar still a Beta, He still needs allot of work. He still lacking Special Moves' Hypers' And other things can be added like giving him more defrent wepons and maybe if the creator want's to go wild, how about helpers from the final fight univers. So because of this I can't give him a B+ like u did, BC he still needs improvement. I'll give him a  C+

I give him a B+, yeah, he's not finished yet. He does have more spcials than Zangief although I still have 2 more hypers to add as well.

Yes, I'll also be adding more leadpipe attacks and the ability to jump with the leadpipe. All in due time.

I got to say that I love this Haggar !
I think about one thing ,
maybe it's too late for ideas , lol ,
but did you plan to add him a special attack
where he can heat something like an apple or a chicken to regain some life ?

Anyway I'd love the work done by Jellyfish ,
