Mozilla Firefox
« on: January 05, 2010, 06:48:53 PM »
Basically.. I think everyone pretty much uses this right now.

I encourage all non-users to try it out before you pass it up. I showed this to my old boss once 3.5.5 was released and he said "wow! This is a lot faster!"

-----------------------------------

Basically what I'll be doing in this topic is just posting some information on updates as they come, and I'll try to help some people (but I'm sure we all can pitch in) with their Firefox issues...

Note: If you still have one of the older versions like 3.5.7 or older.. I fully recommend you uninstall and then install the current version. Sometimes it helps.

1/5/10 - Firefox 3.5.7 released
1/21/10 - Firefox 3.6 released
3/22/10 - Firefox 3.6.2 released
4/1/10 - Firefox 3.6.3 released
6/22/10 - Firefox 3.6.4 released
6/26/10 - Firefox 3.6.6 released
7/20/10 - Firefox 3.6.7 released
7/23/10 - Firefox 3.6.8 released

Tip of the month

January: Have you ever be annoyed by that download screen that shows your downloads? Get rid of it by going to tools, then options, and then under the general tab uncheck "Show the Downloads window when downloading a file".

February: Trying to find a new theme? Just google "Firefox themes" and click the first or second link. It should take you to the theme part of Mozilla's website.
Opinionated Recommendations: Vista-Aero for use with computers at work, Gradient iCool for personal use.

March: Looking for some nifty extensions for your firefox? Click here for the link to go to the add-ons section of the Mozilla website.
Opinionated Recommendations: Adblock Plus to block those darn ad's, QuickDrag.

June: Looking for a better way to view .pdf files? Try this one on for size! Works like a charm! PDF Download Add-On

Firefox 3.6 Released! I recommend re-installing for better quality and less errors.

Note: Usually when I go to check for updates often, I'll see "Get the new version" and that's when I re-install.. other times you can just update normally.

I hope this release is a heck of a lot more stable then all previous 3.X releases or I'm switching to either chrome or safari. Firefox is really making me mad. Stability has gone down in return for more features. I opened up 4 tabs on firefox last night and minimized it and opened up Task manager in windows 7. After 10 minutes firefox was using 75% of my total memory on my machine. It was insane. The memory leak in firefox is the most insane memory leak I have ever seen in an application for windows in years. Usually games have memory leaks way before regular programs. I would expect a game to have some sort of a memory leak but not a simple program. If 3.6 does not fix it, I'm switching.

Here are the more notable features:

They may have improved stability, but you'll have to browse their website later to be sure.. or just test it out for a while...

Edit: Here's an article that talks about Firefox 3.6's improved speed, stability, & more...

First post updated. No there is not a new firefox update, but there is a new tip of the month.

Basically how Adblock Plus works is when you download it, restart firefox as you do for everything else you install for firefox, go to tools, then add-ons (unless the add-on windows is already open), click on adblock plus, then options, click filters then add filter subscription, click "EasyList USA" and then click "Subscribe". Most of the advertisements on webpages should now be gone.

WARNING: When viewing videos, a block button will appear on the top right of the video. Ignore it. If you click it, you will probably have to either re-install adblock plus or firefox.

QuickDrag is easy to use. Tools, then add-ons. Once you're at the add-ons window click the QuickDrag space, then options. If you like to download a lot of images, keep that checked... otherwise un-check it. It will annoy you. This best thing to check here is the first option "Open tabs for web addresses in the foreground". Basically when you see a link or a name that can be clicked. Just put your cursor over it and drag it off anywhere just a little bit and let go of the mouse. The link will open in a new tab. :cool

Happy Firefox Browsing everyone. I will keep you all updated with Firefox. I'm hoping a Firefox update comes soon, because it always gets more stable and faster with each update. :)

I forgot to update this topic when 3.6.3 was released.. I'm sure you're all aware of it by now though.

Gradient iCool has received a few updates as well...

I think for me, for this version, it's the Java add-on... What you have to do is uninstall java from the computer, and then go to java.com to redownload it. I haven't had problems since then.

I haven't been keeping up to date with this topic, but unfortunately they take forever to update Firefox... which is a good thing, I guess... lol...

Well... Firefox 3.6.4 update has been released! Update yours now!

Also, the next one will be a whole new version.. and they're talking about releasing that in like July or August hopefully... so.. yeah... :)

Here's one for ya'

If you are seeing colorloss in (most notably) a screenshot but it is not evident in MUGEN or when viewing the screenshot through another program and you have the latest version of Firefox, open up a new tab and put about:config in the address bar.

Click "I'll Be Careful, I Promise"

Then put gfx.color_management.mode in the Filter area and change the value from 2 to 0, then restart Firefox.
