There's already Sonic racing games (Sonic R and Riders), and there was already a Sonic based party game, but I don't remember its name. There was also a fighting game with sonic characters... well, another one other than Sonic Battle.

just coz someone says something's gay, it doesn't mean they're scared of gays (which is what a phobia is for those that don't know) Jeez, get a new word. .

This sonic game has to be one of the stupidist ideas I've heard for a long while... when will Sega realise that all sonic fans want is a game that plays like the original games, sideways scrolling, faster than your eyeballs can follow and addictive.
It would also help if they threw in graphics that looked like...say... Little Big planet and an online 4 player race mode (similar to the 2 player race mode in sonic 2) Now THAT is what a Sonic game should be like, none of this crap they've been churning out since sonic adventure (on DC).
I'm not saying the 3D ones aren't enjoyable, God knows how much I enjoyed the final battle at the end of Sonic Adventure 1!, Just that they don't REALLY feel like true sonic games.

Seriously, though, I have a distaste for using gay/faggot as an insult.

And I'm not against Sonic with a sword, just as I wasn't against Mario with a water pack.

As I said before, simply putting Sonic back in his simplest gameplay aspects would hurt Sonic more than help, with even Nintendo throwing in new stuff in New Super Mario Bros. I'm saving my assumptions on MM9, but at the very least if it's going to be sold, it won't be for a lot of money. And I'd rather pay $2 for MM9 than over $50 for a 3D Sonic 2.
