Title: EF-12, a 3D Mugen-like engine
Post by: O Ilusionista on September 25, 2013, 12:39:37 PM
Project EF-12 is a free, fully customizable 3D fighting game engine

Some Screenies:

A English release is expected at the end of the year.

Tucked away inside of the densely-packed Tokyo Game Show Indie Game Area was Project EF-12, which at first glance appeared to be a prototype 3D fighter along the lines of SoulCalibur or Tekken. After being introduced to designer/Quad Arrow CEO Masahiro Onoguchi, however, I learned that the game is in fact a free, totally customizable 3D fighting game engine.

Through modifying what essentially amounts to a collection of spreadsheets, users can change virtually everything about Project EF-12, from its characters, to their abilities and stages, all the way down to the appearance of the UI. The version I played had a selection of characters that had been modified into familiar archetypes: Virtua Fighter-esque, Tekken-like – there was even a character that played with 2D-style controls, despite this being a 3D engine.

It's times like this that spending all those years learning Japanese really pays off.

Edit: This thing is huge. If you go to the English version of the page EF-12 won't show up, you have to navigate the Japanese version and open an account to download it.

I made a video with my own thoughts on it. Hopefully to assist in getting this known to the masses. This really is quite a nice find.

I'm seriously waiting to see how well this turns out. This is really a big step up, no doubt.  :w00t:

Edit: Lol O, we can all say goodbye to life once this comes out  ::salute::

Oh man.... finally The breakthrough I've been waiting for. This could be epic. The polycount on the models look pretty high so it shouldn't be a problem porting over my models.  :Terry

Hehe. Now I just need to find a way to open up GPK files. I'm suspecting that the models of a game I have are stored here.

Question!
Whats the minimum PC spects for this?

As far as I know, the known specs is:

Windows XP/7/8
CPU: Core 2 Duo
GPU: GeForce GT640M

I'm gonna search for the bare minimum, if at all possible somewhere.

EDIT: Found the rest of the specs

What is said that is recommended to have:
-Windows XP / 7
-Intel ® Pentium ® D processor or higher
· DirectX ® 9.0c or later
HDD space-1.5GB
RAM-2GB of
-display 1,280 x 1,024

Known tested specs:
(i5-2400 (3.1GH) / memory 8GB / Intel Core PC - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 )

(Core i7-3517U 1.9GHz - 4GB MEM Windows 7 - built-in GPU HD4000 Intel *18fps around. 60fps almost changed to 640 * 360 resolution rendering* (Secondary optional note: GeForce GT620M and almost 60fps 1152 * 648 resolution 52fps rendering before and after*

Core2Duo E8400 @ 3GHz / 2GB RAM / own PC NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT (256MB)
thing with Dell 60fps if you hide the background

Intel Core2Duo T9500 / 2GB memory / NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS

As posted on the site:
It is a necessary operating environment of Softimage, a tool the main. I think when you work with on-board graphics Because I do not choose the video card too much CG tool, we recommend that you collect the information on the net how to retrofit the video card now.

I believe the mugen is unique, it is different from OpenBOR and certainly different this too, surely this engine will not be able to withstand a 1000 chars like mugen but it sure is revolutionary

This happens since the day I ever touched Mugen back at 1999...And here we are :)

Both engine co-exists, they are different and have different goals. While I like 3D chars, pixel art still have place in my heart. And in everyone who are not so young :)

Anyway, the official site is this: http://ef-12.com/ (http://ef-12.com/)

very very untrue.. hobos panhandle to survive! So hobos can buy food!    Now how we get internet access...easy.. steal ( find half broken or used) cellphone, find wifi signal, set phone to access free connection...BAM! ya got the net! then dl apps that can hone in on more coverage. I am a very techy hobo my friend. lol . plus.. Me and Arch share wifi, so while i am in my shanty hut i will try this thing out when time and can. seems like a lot of fun!

@ Rage... the princess has spoken the true words of the hobo style! ^:)^ ^:)^

Pretty cool. But  3d modeling would be a whole other skill to learn. O has it down my wife was doing it a few years ago using 3d studio max. But seems kind of thorough to make something really good and rigged. Especially since people charge top dollar to do stuff like that. I would love to see what people could come up with though.
