The creator of Mega Man and former Capcom producer Keiji Inafune announced his next game at PAX Prime today. It's called Mighty No. 9 and looks as close to an authentic spiritual successor to Mega Man as fans are ever going to get.

The Mega Man creator calls his game a classic Japanese side-scrolling action game, and it appears heavily influenced by his work on Mega Man and Mega Man X. In a video presentation played during Inafune's panel, he expressed regret that he couldn't complete work on games like Mega Man Universe and Mega Man Legends 3, games that utilized fan feedback to help design the game. He's hoping to address that with Mighty No. 9, a game that will solicit feedback and design ideas from fans who help fund it.

Inafune and his studio Comcept are turning to Kickstarter to crowdfund development of Mighty No. 9 and solicit fan feedback. The fundraiser for Mighty No. 9, which has a goal of $900,000, kicked off today after a countdown (from the number nine) at Inafune's PAX panel.

According to the recently launched Kickstarter drive, Mighty No. 9 puts players in the role of Beck, the ninth in a line of powerful robots who is resilient to a computer virus that has wreaked havoc on mechanized creatures. "Run, jump, blast, and transform your way through six stages (or more, via stretch goals) you can tackle in any order you choose, using weapons and abilities stolen from your enemies to take down your fellow Mighty Number robots and confront the final evil that threatens the planet!" the Kickstarter description reads.

Like Mega Man, Beck will be able to steal the powers of the enemy robots he defeats. But Beck will take the use of those abilities further, transforming parts of his body. "For example, his limbs might become giant magnets, enabling him to walk up walls or rip away enemy shields," the developer says. "Or maybe extendible spring-loaded hands would allow him to activate far-away switches or work as a grappling hook. Or he could have a tank-like body, easily crossing over spikes and pushing objects around the levels."

The game is being developed by "an all-star team of veteran Mega Man devs...and YOU!" according to the game's Kickstarter page. Through surveys, polls and contests, the development team will filter fan feedback during the development of the game.

Mighty No. 9 is in development for Windows PC through Steam and DRM-free digital distribution channels, but developer Comcept says it will consider consoles, Mac and Linux a "high priority, but only if we can afford them via stretch goals."

The game is scheduled for an estimated release in spring 2015.

I can't wait to try this!

I just have ONE fear: The fans. I really hope that the cancer fans of Megaman doesn't screws this too.

I don't want to go back to this all over again, sorry.

He's talking about a particular set of fans, which really doesn't apply here because the gameplay style of the series in question doesn't match up at all.

Oh, and "cancer"... no, all that jazz is legitimate. Capcom made a promise, the "cancer" fans stepped up to the plate and swung the hell away, Capcom then took the promise back and then said they didn't try hard enough.

If you don't want to talk about it, then don't bother bringing it up in any way, via a passing thought or otherwise, because it will get talked about.

Why I knew you would pop-up and said this? The "particular set of fans" is exactly like that: you can't say anything about their lovelly game because they go butthurt like a girl without her doll. Its beyond rendemption.

I know there will be a wall of text explaining the reasons full of pseudo-arguments like "if you don't like dont bother bringing it up and bla bla bla"...

But nevermind.

If you don't want to talk about something don't bring it up. Because brining it up makes people talk about it. Logic.

I find your passive-aggressive post to be rude, and it sounds like the "butt-hurt" one as you put it, is you. You say something that you say you don't want to talk about, then insult a group of people you claim you don't want to talk about.

You probably don't like me using that word to describe how your coming off, how do you think other people will feel.

We're in the final day, 23 hours left and at the time of this post, between the recorded Paypal amount from 12:01 last night and right now now, roughly 39,000 shy of the XB1/PS4 stretch.

"Beckers" have been coming out of the woodworks since this morning. Either the last minute investors are deciding to finally get off the fence, or the recent NES/Famicom cart styled-USB drives have really pushed the the goals forward.

I dare say, they might make it to 3,500,000 by the end tomorrow.

EDIT: It's been an hour, we're under 18,000!!

This right here, this right here is what game companies need to see!

Being that I probably won't have a next gen console by 2015 we've met all the stretch goals I was intereted in. Really, this is going to be a packed game considering.

So I voted on the artwork that I prefered best for Call. I thought it was funny to note that a lot of the art work said "Roll" in Japanese on it.

My question(s) about those guys who are being too critique on the DuckTales remake with bad complaints. Did they play the old DuckTales on NES before they started reviewing like this? Do they not care about retro games and inspiration from other old games they played? Are they only focusing on only 3D, 2D, or both (in average)? Are they really long time players or those who are mostly into too much 3D and hate 2D because they think 2D is old like other past generations?

I guess those guys need to take a look again on the games. Some good reviewers. Some bad reviewers. I may think some may not be professional reviewers. Maybe like amateur I guess.

Don't you remember how IGN reviews games?

(click to show/hide)
Now that I'm looking at the picture in the spoiler, is EA really trying to make other game companies' games really bad by having the reviewers to give lies about games or something?

Sorry for sounding like I was bashing. It just seems that those guys who give bad reviews not well enough.

We had a lot of exciting moments during our Kickstarter campaign, but few measured up to the pure levels of hype that arose from our plucky heroine Call rising to playable character status in the stretch goals!

We’ve shown you brief glimpses here and there, but we’ll still need a little time to show you exactly what we have in store for her. In the meantime, we’ve been given few goodies from Inti Creates to sate your curiosity!

First, this little vignette from Inti Creates designer Yuji Natsume:

Introducing Call’s new look! Can you spot the differences?

Next, let’s sneak a peek into Inti Creates’ top-secret animation studios for an exclusive look at her in-game model!

Unlike Beck, our intrepid heroine can’t perform a crouching dash, so she’ll have to resort to this crawl maneuver to get out of tight spots! Or maybe into them? Maybe she could use this move to navigate cramped spaces, like ventilation shafts and such? Just one example of potential gameplay differences between our two playable characters!

Call runs straight at danger, not away from it! The animators have done a great job of giving her movements that share Beck’s determination, while still showcasing how different she is from him. Call wasn’t built for combat, but she will do whatever needs to be done to help Beck!

By the way… did you notice that light-pink object on her back? I wonder what that could be…?  :Wink

Of course these animations are still rough and most definitely works-in-progress, but what do you think? We’d love to hear our Mighty community’s feedback!”

I do not know if this is official. Seeing as there is no announcement from Keiji Inafune so I deem it as an nice fan made trailer.

A message from Keiji Inafune about Mighty No. 9′s new funding campaign. It looks like Inafune is looking for $100,000 for a full English voice cast in Might No.9

That'd be interesting.

Bets on Beck's voice sound a lot like any of the Mega Man voices we've had over the years?

Hmm...maybe.
He definitely does NOT look like his voice could be based on MegaMan 8.
I bet it's based on either Powered Up or the old american cartoon, if anything.

Series Overview
"Half human, half robot, all Mighty"

In the year 2099, humans have become dependent on robots not just for manual labor but also entertainment. The most powerful robots in the world fight in front of humans in a popular league called the Battle Colosseum.

BECK is a small combat robot made to fight in the Battle Coliseum as a part of the MIGHTY NUMBERS, the strongest robots in the world. But since Beck is the only robot in the world with a human heart, he's also the only robot that gets scared in combat. The good news is that he also possesses the ability to turn into any other robot. The bad news is that since his emotions are wired to his abilities, he often finds himself malfunctioning in battle.

One day a notorious engineer named DR. BLACKWELL releases a virus that infects every robot in the world...everyone except Beck. Dr. Blackwell remotely controls the infected Mighty Numbers to lead a rebellion to destroy mankind. Beck suddenly becomes the only robot available to stop the Mighty Numbers.

As Beck tries to save the world, he will be joined by CALL, his overly serious robotic sidekick; DR. WHITE, the young but socially inept creator of the Mighty Numbers; and DR. SANDA, the lazy but wise team leader. With each of their help, Beck will learn how to deal with his emotions and become the hero they need him to be.

Target Audience: Kids 6 - 11
Genre: Action, Comedy
Format: 26 episodes x 22 minutes
Style: CG Animation

:D I def see that too. Thats a looooong lifebar for a boss , so imagine final boss lifebar.  :o @^@ lol.
From what I figured of mega man old school series and this is pretty much a super similar deal then depending on the added weapons used then that should deplete their lifebars down extra pegs than normal damage. I hope so at least. lol. Thrill of the challenge tho.

Honestly, I think some of these review companies (IGN is the biggest offender) will give a bad review if the developer doesn't properly court them, give them betas, exclusives, swagg and free food.

IGN gave Mighty No. 9 a 5.5 but Mighty No. 9 is way more fun then Capcom's new Strider game 2 years ago that got a 7.5.

I downloaded the game yesterday after work onto my Wii U and I had tons of fun playing it. As I left for work this morning my daughter was playing it, trying to beat Mighty No. 1.
