What do all of you think about having a sprite of week contest ?
There will not be many rules . It does have to be original , but can be an edit of something as long as work was put into it . It can not be someone's already existing sprite on the net , it has to be your work .
If you vote for this . Should it be just any sprite ? Or should daniel_p & I pick a theme or character each week ?
For example one week it may be any anime character theme . The next could specifically be Batman . There's a whole universe of things we could have it be from week to week .
Your comments on all this ?

I think any sprite every week would produce better workagreed youd get more participants im sure if its just anything instead of themes but its up to you guys

Yeah , but we will get to see everyone's vision of how it would be sprited . Like for example batzarro , sprites a batman & I do also . ( Which we've done BTW )
His looked more MVC using Guile as a base & mine was more like he was drawn by Jim Lee in the comics . It would be cool to see everyone's perception of him .
Like I mentioned we could just have it this week is any Marvel character . But once a month narrow it down to one specific character . This way that one single week you'll have to work on something specific , instead of pulling something from your sprite archive & submitting it .

The poll has to go on for a few days before I decide if we even do this . If enough people vote yes & there is interest it will start up soon . Everyone will have roughly 6 days to submit their entry .

Might not happen there now that you got to it first lol, but you never know, cuz we were thinking of having a private judges pannel scoring based on a few factors.
Ever week should have a general theme. If you pick batman, it should limit it to anything within the batman mythos. Or even elseworlds batmen.
You should decide right away weather or not animations should be alloud.
I also think that as a rule, the backgrounds should be transparent but thats only because leaving backgrounds on it bugs the bageebers out of me.
But yes I will particapate.

i dont like the ideia, i dont see the point to make one sprite if u dont want to wip him,but on the other hand, it can help those just starting out spriting get some practice ya know

People have been making sprites of stuff long before mugen. Heck I was making sprites 10 years ago just to get ideas out of my head cuz it was easyer then drawing, then ide use them in chatrooms and show them off.
Also I think its a great idea to pratice ones skills, and to give some people an excuse to try making something they havnt yet.

WIP of the month would be to hard to pull off . I would have to make up too many guidelines . Like in order for a submission to be valid , there has to be a vid , the characters stance has to be sprited , he has to have all his basic punches done & at least one special move . Or whatever , something similar to that .
This will just be a fun little competition where all members can join in . There's alot of guys who can sprite but will probably never make a full character . Because it does take alot of time , hard work & dedication . So no spriter or even a fan who wants to give spriting a shot will be left out of this comp .

BTW Mew if it is the forum I am thinking of . There's not enough members there . Easier to have it here in my opinion
If people want to actually animate their sprites . More power to them . That will be allowed .
But maybe one week out of 3 months , It will be a character with an animated stance or whatever . So you may not want to animate everything .
One main rule I will have is that any contestant , FOR ANY REASON , Says ANYTHING bad , about another participant or his entry . Their submission will be automatically disqualified . NO EXCEPTIONS . The fans can say what they want . But the vote thread is not going to be six pages of participents dogging someone else or their work for no apparent reason , like this past sig of the week competition was .

Hold on , you couldn't get one sprite done in 6 days ? I'm slow as molasses when it comes to spriting & I could do it .
Do you guys think it needs to be a longer time period ?

Depends on how ambitious people are and methods/level of detail being used along with the contest theme.
Also depends on what a person has for free time.
Biweekly would be better, and I would think would be sufficient.

unlimited options really
maybe the winners could choose the next category, or they could get points n recognition or a foot massage or so LOL
this could help trigger WIPS if ppl come out wit the right bases n formulas

as far as themes, theres a ton you could go with. "best original marvel sprite", "Best edit using ___ as a base", etc.

A "sprite of the week" is way too easy...but fun nonetheless. In all honesty, I'd much rather have something like a "stance animation of the week."
I know for a fact that DT is a very inclusive dude when in comes to projects of this nature, and that in that spirit you guys thought about this contest, my question is, would there be something more challenging for people with more experience in the arts of photshops? lol something regarding animation, perhaps?

I am trying to make this contest for all to enjoy . I don't want to alienate anyone . Say for example a new spriter can come in & make a sprite & it will be a learning experience possibly . This comp could develop anyone into a better spriter & possibly even have a few WIPS started out of it . Most new spriters do not animate well . So it wouldn't be fun for them .
I did say once in awhile it will be an animation comp . Then anyone who can't animate will try to use it as a learning experience or sit out that week . I know that I can't animate , so I will not enter that week ;*))
Maybe one week it will be an animation contest of original moves for my Medieval Spawn WIP . Yeah , then I will use them ;D
That's a joke everyone . I will not use this competition for my own advantage . >:D >:D >:D
Anyway , I think you get where I am trying to go with this at first . I just want it to be fun .

1. Edits have to be mugen sized
2. no background
3. only one sprite by artist( we prefer quality to quantity :DxDie)
4. do not use an edit from someone else.
5. add a comment if your edit is open source. (believe me you should ;*)))
6. fun edits are allowed ( let's say the contest is superman and you do superman in a spiderman suit :D)
7. You have one week to post, then the contest from all edits will start the next week.
The characters to do should be the big stars from company first:
WEEK 1: Superman (DC)
WEEK 2: Spiderman( Marvel)
WEEK 3: Spawn (Image, dark horse, aspen, ...)
WEEK 4: San goku (manga characters)
WEEK 5: MARIO BROS (video games characters)
that s my two cents. ;)

All submissions must be entered by anytime Friday . But can be entered before that .
The submissions will be posted on Saturday & people will be able to vote untile Sunday evening .

it's stay home & chill night at DT's house because of snow . My new girl of the week is over she's raising a puppy or something on the Wii now :-??
If I am not involved in something with her later , I will post at midnight .
I had to shovel a ton of snow to get in & out of my driveway . I really don't even feel like getting down with her 2nite . So you will probably get your wish .
