Title: Dreamcast's best games!
Post by: The Notic on May 14, 2008, 11:00:09 AM
I'm geting a Dreamcast with a custom built arcade stick in a week and I was wondering what would be some great games to burn, so far I have:

Marvel vs. Capcom 2
Capcom vs. Snk 2
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Street Fighter III
Jojo's Bizzare Adventure
Power Stone
Power Stone 2
Cannon Spike
Unreal Tournament

Any other great titles I can burn!?

Although burning Dreamcast games will save you a lot of hassle I always thought the original games that sold for retail will always be the best and most valued. It's ashame the DC died, but one of many reasons it did was because their games were so easy to pirate.

After the Dreamcast demise I had no choice but to make burned backup games and ISO's of my original copies myself, because the games were becoming too rare so I kinda see your logic. The games are hard to come by thus burning them could be your best bet.

As for recommendations.

1. Dead or Alive 2: Limited Edition (Japanese version of DOA2)
2. King of Fighters '99 Evolution
3. King of Fighters '99 Dream Match
4. Capcom Vs. SNK PRO
5. Marvel Vs. Capcom Clash of Super Heroes
6. Virtua Fighter 3 Team Battle
7. Plasma Sword (sequel to Star Gladiator)
8. Fatal Fury Mark of The Wolves (deepest Dreamcast fighter ever)
9. Street Fighter III Double Impact
10. Street Fighter III 3rd Strike
11. Ready 2 Rumble Boxing Round 1
12. Ready 2 Rumble Boxing Round 2
13. Daytona USA
14. San Francisco Rush 2049
15. Looney Tunes Space Race
16. Half Life (RARE)
17. Ikaruga (shooter)
18. Giga Wing (shooter)
19. Giga Wing 2 (shooter, 4-players)
20. WWF Royal Rumble Arcade
21. Super Street Fighter 2 X
22. Spawn
23. House of The Dead 2 (more fun with light gun)
24. Virtua Cop 2
25. Sega Smash Pack (with VC2 bundled)
26. Spider-Man (one of my personal faves)
27. Nightmare Creatures 2
28. Crazy Taxi
29. Crazy Taxi 2
30. Shenmue (best action-RPG in my opinion)
31. Shenmue 2 (read above)
32. Mortal Kombat GOLD (best one out of the MK4's)
33. Sonic Adventure (HELLZ YEAH)
34. Sonic Adventure 2
35. Dynamite Cop
36. Rainbow Cotton
37. Vigilante 8 2nd Offense
38. Fighting Vipers 2
39. Guilty Gear X (this is a must have)
40. Project Justice (Burning Justice Academy - Rival Schools 2)
41. Soul Calibur
42. Tech Romancer
43. Mars Matrix (shooter)
44. Border Down (shooter)
45. Castle of Shikigami 2 (shooter)
46. Psyvariar II (shooter)
47. Bangai O (shooter)
48. Trizeal (shooter)
49. Chaos Field (shooter)
50. Gunbird 2 (shooter)
51. Zero Gunner 2 (shooter)

56. Last Hope (shooter)
57. NBA 2K
58. NFL 2K
59. NBA 2K1
60. NFL 2K1
61. NBA on NBC Showtime!
62. NBA Hoopz
63. NFL Blitz
64. ECW Hardcore Revolution
65. ECW Anarchy Rulz
66. WWF Attitude
67. Super Puzzle Fighter 2 X

69. Skies of Arcadia
70. Silent Scope
71. Resident Evil: Code Veronica
72. Resident Evil 2
73. Resident Evil 3 Nemesis
74. Dino Crisis

You want good games you got them 74 titles recommended. Here are some homebrews you might like.

1. The Simpsons Arcade
2. TMNT Arcade
3. Battletoads & Sketch Turner Homebrew
4. Final Fight Homebrews (there are lost of them)
5. Streets of Rage Homebrews (alotta these too)

If I might make a suggestion if you can afford to buy the original game off of Ebay or Amazon then by all means do so if you can afford it. Ink nothing like having the book and case with original artwork included, sometimes the CD's have cool designs on them too. Some cases there may even be a bonus package give it some thought. :)

Well my work here is done. May these titles keep your interest.

Like my friend there up above said... Jet Grind Radio rocks! XD

Good list, but Garu aint the deepest fighter on Dreamcast, MVC2 is!  ;D

I remember these games, can't beleive I forgot them!

Project Justice
Plasma Sword
Fighting Vipers 2
Mortal Kombat GOLD
Guilty Gear X

I think GGXX is better than the first one though, hey does Super Street Fighter 2 X play like Super Street Fighter 2: Turbo?

What are the best top 3 shooters?

Sorry bro but I have to disagree with you on that one.

Pros

-56 characters
-Marvel heroes and Capcom fighters
-Hyper fighting
-Easy to pick up and play

Cons

-Lack of story
-Broken combo system
-Missing the flash effect. I missed the flash I thought it was cool :'(
-Too many X-Men. Not that there is anything wrong with that the X-Men is Marvel's most known group, I guess I would rather see someone like the Thing or Punisher rather then a busted X-Men COTA Colossus again, you know?
-Character in-balances. An example is Cable vs. Roll, Sentinel vs. Zangief, Storm vs. Dan. Some characters are heavily overpowered and some are near useless.

All things considered MvC2 is a great fighting game but because of these im-perfections; it's certainly not the best, not to me anyway. My favorites are Street Fighter III and Fatal Fury MOTW. These games are more serious and MOTW doesn't have any infinite combo's that I know of. ;) Allowing beginners not to become overwhelmed.

Top 3 DC shooters of all time are the 2 Giga Wings (4-player mayhem) and Ikaruga. So, have fun with them.

Oh and Street Fighter 'II X is SF2T. :) It's a refined version of the original, faster with lots of goodies in it.

Actually, infinites make and break the game, but it is more popular than Garu, now just syaing, no need to ge tinto what game is better becouse it all comes down to opinions, lol! One more thing, since when is MVC2 not a serious game?(No need to answer) lol, it's easy to where beginers can easily pick up, but to master it is a whole nother story, a long,, cruel story... it's one of the hardest fighting games to develope skills to the point you can hold your own against pros, anyways, where can i burn all these games, is there a tutorial out there?
Title: Re: Dreamcast's best games!

Your right. It is more popular how ever popular doesn't always mean better. Just means more people know about it. XD Please do not get the wrong idea, I love the game and think it's awesome. Just don't think it's the best, but again opinion. lol I'm gonna shut-up about it now. *zips lips*

If you wanna good place to find Dreamcast ISO's try snesorama. ;)

My favorites are
MvC2 (that's a given)
CvS
Dynamite Cop 2 (it's a sequel to Die Hard Arcade/Dynamite Cop, fans of arcade beatem ups HAVE TO PLAY THIS GAME!)
House of the dead 2
Shenmue 1 and 2 (I wish they would make 3 already)
Virtua Fighter 3
Fighting Vipers 2 (I can't believe I missed this game until last year when I tried it for the first time)
DOA2 (first DOA game I played)
Zombie Revenge (It's similar to Dynamite Cop2, but it's more shooting then fighting and the difficulty is a bit hard)
Mobile Suit Gundam: Side Story (this game is a great simulation of real mech fighting)
Sega Smash Pack
Spawn: In the Demons Hand (at first I didn't like the game, but I realized, it's ok, they should have just added a online option though since the game is meant to be played in multiplayer

Here is a important question to me.

Dynamite Cop 2 was actually a reality??? O_______________O I thought they quited after part one. Screenshots please?

I agree Spawn should have had online and DOA2 was the first one I played and it blew my mind! I got into Fighting Vipers 2 late too, about 2 years ago. I still have a Saturn. ;D

Where's Rez?! Why isn't Rez on this list?! This game is so awesome, it's in the Smithsonian Museum for it's extreme awesomeness!

So yeah, Rez FTW!

Also, I have to promote the 4-1 shooter pack. It's an ISO that has Ikaruga, Psyvariar 2, Zero Gunner 2, and my personal favorite, Border Down packed together on one convient disc. I like Border Down because I can't beat it.

 >:-(-| If you liked WF, then look for this game called rRootage. It has the same concept of fighting evolving bosses, but there are four (count em) different modes of play, and you can even choose what stage you play. (it goes on a A1, B1, C1 etc. system) The bullet patterns in the game are just MIND BLOWING. And it's never the same pattern everytime you play.

And if you're looking for a 3D shmup, then look for a game called Ether Vapor. It's too hard for me to describe such an awesome game, so I'll just let this vid say it for me. (Thank god for reviewers lol)

I did.

Mugen Toons. He was asking for good shooters on the Dreamcast, Time Crisis is a PS exclusive. Besides when he said shooters I think he meant top down. ;)

Unreal is probably the best FPS type on Dreamcast. For other gun games the light gun games are a blast. Anyone who likes Time Crisis will love House of The Dead 2 and Virtua Cop 2.

Can you burn games using a normal CD drive? Zero said he uses a DVD one and he tested the normal one to see if it works becouse that's all I have, he said it didn't but becouse it was burned at thew rong speed, he tried it again and it did work, I'm just trying to make sure, I downloaded Dis Juggler and I know where to find the games, I should be all set, right? Is there any problems I might run in, my comp is crap and it usualyl doesnt pull through for me on things like this!

As far as I know it will do CD drives. I use 2 DVD drives but my friend uses a regular CD drive, he burns DC games all the time so that should get the job done.

For whatever reason I can't seem to get my Discjuggler to work properly. \-/o *grunts* I have this hacked ISO of DOA2 now I can't use it because Discjuggler is acting shady. >_< I dunno what the problem is. If anybody can lend me a hand?

For whatever reason I can't seem to get my Discjuggler to work properly. \-/o *grunts* I have this hacked ISO of DOA2 now I can't use it because Discjuggler is acting shady. >_< I dunno what the problem is. If anybody can lend me a hand?

Well I just downloaded it yesterday so I don't know too much, but when I have problems with programs that I can't solve, I jsut uninstall them and install them again! That might work!  :-??

And if you're looking for a 3D shmup, then look for a game called Ether Vapor. It's too hard for me to describe such an awesome game, so I'll just let this vid say it for me. (Thank god for reviewers lol)

I have that game! It is so awesome that he's right, words alone cannot describe how good it really is. I even learned something from that vid and now I think I can pass level 5.

Agreed with every word you said. SEGA!

I tried uninstalling it and still the problem occurs. Guess it'll be a little longer before I figure this one out.
