Elec Man RMM (Wip)

Since long time, I wanted to remake Elec Man, which was released 10 years ago (yeah, time really goes fast).

At the time, it was made for the EOH project, then it was for the "Rock Man Arena" project * and is now moving to the Robot Master Mayhem project. There were a lot of things in the original version that I didn't like, like the black-only chest shadow, Mega Man's arms, among other things.

Laspacho has offered to change all his sprites and, with the help of more people (Rage and others), this new version will be possible. Many moves will be modified (Rage created several new animations) and included the Power Sets.

A quick comparsion between the new (left) and the old (right) version of Elec Man sprites

There are still things I would like to improve on his sprites, such as adding another tone to his chest, but due to the short time (we are one month from launch), this is for next year's update.

I have several ideas in mind for him, but if anyone wants to suggest something to his Power Sets, feel free to contribute.


* The "Rock Man Arena" project is currently ready to be launched. The author just asked me to take a look at it, which should only be done in 2020.

I'm very happy I got a chance revisit and redo Elecman's sprites too.  I'm also happy with what the sprites look like now.
I remember making Elecman's sprites the first time right after I completed Metalman and was just starting to sprite Crashman.
10 years went by quick.  :)
It was a definite challenge to update and change all of those sprites.  With everything done to these sprites this really is a new character here.  Yes the color separated chest only has two colors.  Adding a third color would definitely make the chest pop a little more.  It's definitely something that can be done in the future.  I also color separated the lightning bolt on his chest to give some more pallet options.

I know a made a few new animations that the original Elecman did not have.  Hopefully that can help with some power sets and moves.   :thumbsup:

One of Elec Man's power sets: Static Trap.

Each button makes the electric ball appear further away. It is still for 1 and a half seconds after it disappears (Elec Man can walk while it is still on the screen), does not cause much damage but causes paralysis for 1 second if it hits.

He is very close to be complete and unless something bad happens, we will release the next version, finally, in January 30th.

He still doesn't come in on screen fast enough after landing air HK knockdown that knocks player out of focus.

I have question with Standing HK's hit box. the animations for it gives the impression that the box is bigger than it actually is. For instance, a standing combo of LP, LK, MP, HK LOOKS like it should all connect, but it doesn't.

This is beacuse I don't use pixel based collision boxes, but motion based collision boxes - and that is for years.
In fact, it could be even bigger.

Well, when it happens, Elec Man is left wide open to get attacked because there's no control until he's there. I don't know what to tell you other than it's a thing that happens.

I'm absolutely in love with the effects you've been giving your characters, O. It definitely gives  them more liveliness, as well as the new spritework looking so much more polished. Awesome stuff.  :)

Not sure if appropriate, but you could play with meta/4th wall using a fake low battery alert, as if the device running the game needs to be charged and have Elec Man energize it. Alternatively, a low battery alert could also be used in his dizzy state.

Added some Electric based Robot Masters to one of Elec Man's win pose :) They are random and won't repeat

Nah dude it's working fine, Elec man's just has some balancing issues on these two moves...
