Try using Effie for head base and color reference.

I like that idea!

Here is the Netflix Daredevil "Devil of Hell's Kitchen"

Your colors are a little desaturated (I think almost all of your edits). I recommend you take a look at Prime Op's edits and choose something more like his stuff.

The Daredevil sprite looks regular, given what you did for Harley, I am sure you can come up with something better. Have you considered the Romita/Miller-esque version? The brown-black color scheme could be a better pal than just shades of grey. Another option is blueish-black scheme (again, check Prime Op's stuff for reference).

First off, love the critique! Probably the most useful advice I've ever gotten, so thank you. I've always had pretty "flat" pallets, and never know quite how saturated to go. As for being regular, could you maybe explain a little further?
This is what I hope is a better update. I want to do more, but I'm not sure what else to do further. Thoughts?

You're welcome.

By regular, I meant there wasn't really many changes other than the pants + boots + upper combo. It's not that it is a bad sprite, it just that it doesn't really stand out, even after the color changes + detail.

You could try something completely different, like mixing different bases and create a whole new body for DD.

Edit: This is a really easy concept for a new sprite. Bases are Yamazaki, Huang, Alex and the same Yatagarasu guy

I like it a lot but my question is how come the legs have so much muscle in the upper body don't

I like that :) I still do like Yatagarasu's upper body because it's thinner and more "realistic", but I will try to find one that is different than his but still thin. I'm still toying around, but since I last posted I've animated him into a stance which I think has potential. The more I work on him the more I like the idea of making him a WIP. I love the show and it's not uber difficult. Alex's pants probably would work better, just need to be thinned out a little to match the upper body. Also, as for the pants, what would you suggest for a pallet for them? I still fell mine are to "flat" and bleh. I like my upper body colors though, after your suggestions :)

Edit: If you were to finish up the Frankensprite you put together, what would the finished product look like? If you don't mind :) You're one of my favorite spriters, so I'd like to see it.

Even though it's animated, I am still not a fan of your current concept... anyway, it's your sprite/wip.

I recommend checking the upper body muscle lines. Given that he's wearing a regular sports long sleeve shirt, his 6 pack wouldn't have to be well defined. The body type is also weird... Maybe something more like Adon/Joe Higashi would be better.

The upper body animation seems to be a mix of a static torso with animated arms - nothing else is moving. He needs subtle animation to chest, abs and such. There's also something wrong with one of his right hand finger.

The lower body is poorly animated. This is because you added a couple of pixels in height and dislocated it 1 px to the left side of the screen, but forgot to detail the changes for muscle flexing, thus changes in the pants shading. A great MVC character to study stance legs animation is Wolverine - there are muscles, shades and shine effects in the yellow spandex hero stance.

Not sure about the colors. For visibility purposes, I'd give the cargo a brown/black mix (IIRC Remy has some nice options, check http://www.zweifuss.ca).

Sry for the long post. Maybe next time I will sprite a potato.

Impressive, navs. But I reckon that concept can be too difficult for him to sprite.

Thanks. It wasn't meant to be the wip concept, just a filling the blanks sort of practice.  :)

If I ever were to WIP, I'd probably find a better but simpler formula to work with to make it as fluid as possible. But as for one sprite, I'll figure out how to improve what I have now drastically. :)

        My Pal        Original Pal

Colonel America

I want to add blood splatters to his shield because it is the reason he lost his dome after all. Just haven't gotten it right yet. I might try to make the pallet "dingier", as all I did was use my own pallet over MVC Cap, and wasn't sure as to what to do for the color. Any other suggestions are appreciated :)

Hey guys! I know it's been a while since I've been active on here, but a few pretty big things IRL have taken hold over most of my time, so I haven't really been doing too much in terms of spriting. I'm hoping to slowly get back into the swing of things, but in the meantime, I'll be doing small projects and uploading them here. :)

Here are a few sprites I've done of a couple of "Homestar Runner" characters I used to love watching when that site was still active. Tell me what you think! :cool

All are hand drawn, and I think are a vast improvement over my older HR related sprites.

Here is a comparison:

Old     New

I plan on doing more characters from the series, soon and posting them here. Any suggestions for who I should sprite next? Let me know what you think!

I guess I really liked doing those Homestar Runner sprites  :cool Particularly Strong Bad. So here is a work-in-progress animation I'm drawing for Strong Bad walking:

It's just one step being looped back and forth (so you can better visualize what the final product will look like) for the time being and it's missing a few frames, but I'd thought I'd share what I'm working on.

(P.S. It's not a WIP, just an animation I'm doing )

I can promise you that they are 100% hand drawn by me :) Would you want to post them here? I'm sure under some inspection you'll see that they are different. Honestly I didn't even know you drew some SB sprites. If you wanted I could share my Photoshop file where I'm drawing these with you
