I will use this topic to discuss about Blade, a possible wip.

The original edit were made by DanOwnsALL122 and GatlingPunchRalf

Since he is more original (he doesn't use the same body), it got my attention.
I've made some tests with Blademan. Take a look (needs cleaning):

Those are tests (ignore the lack of outlines) about the standing.
Which one is better? A (left, more fighter) or B (right, more Fencing)

My idea is to make him a fencing character, very quick, with references of some characters like Charlotte and others.

I think this could add something different to RMM :) I will need some help with some sprites (like new position of torso or head). Do anyone wants to help with that?

Since you Made two stances, he could work as a stance fighter, having more aggressive moves in The first stance and more pokes and mobility in The second one.

I have some ideas:
- Use one stand, then after some time change for another
- Use both stands, randomly
- Change the stand based on the life

Magma, do you want to help me with some torso and head positions? Like you did for Burstman?

well, he wasn't a fencer in MM10, and his style seemed like a power slash type... but for the life of me and I know this is crazy, I can't help but see him fighting like voldo from soul caliber!

don't discard one stance completely though. you never know, you may want to use it in an attack. for instance, I could see the stance on the right having him bring the higher blade down pretty hard, and from his standard MM10 stance, well, if you think about the movements a human would have to make to perform any kind of attack, the fastest I could see would either be a single forward poke, 1, 2 poke, or double stab. he'd have to have a back swing before making any kind of long or hard slash.

do whatever makes you happy with the character though. if you try to stick to something you like less, the character may suffer for it in the long run. I wouldn't get rid of everything that makes him who he is, but he'll be all the better if you follow what you think should happen.

also, this may help: I said "if you think about the movements a HUMAN would have to make". he's not a human. spinning blades. or at least, turning blades. like a hand on a wrist, or a drill. picture it: huge downward slash with one arm, then the blade turns, and huge upward slash with same arm. or even this: blades turn to face each other, then come together like a bear trap. or even scissor cuts.

i'm throwing it out there now: possible intro: cut man on scene, then like akuma to bison, blademan comes from above and shows him what "cutting" is all about. round one: FIGHT!

whatever. I REALLY need to stop this.

Don't have firm memories of him, still for me he reminds more of Strider Hiryu or (AvX) Gambit with what I remember of him, maybe Samurai Showdown's Jubei. I mean slashing, wall grabbing, blade throwing. His blades are not of fencing type, but some poking won't hurt, especially for weak/medium attacks, stabbing and tossing throw would be great. What I do expect from him on more unique side is using head blade to max - aerial and ground headbutts, some spinning slicing, downward, upward, diagonal thrusts...
Well, I'm sure you'll make him both unique and cool  :thumbsup:

Cool, makes me wish to not being stuck with broken monitor and be able to do something more than giving ideas.
Though while I'm at that - are arm blades of  him being able too rotate or not? If they are, then there could be some throwing in the air move followed by headbanging. Say... We had rapid fencing on Charlotte, rapid kicking on Chun-Li, rapid punching on Fei-Long, maybe it's time for rapid headbanging anti-air?  ;D

you know, if you're looking for inspiration for moves, you could look at characters like zoro from One Piece, Cervantes from Soul Caliber, Liu Bei from Dynasty Warriors (actually, dynasty warriors 8 features multiple dual sword characters that all play differently!). actually, the Ninja Turtles wouldn't be a bad source of inspiration either. Leonardo uses dual katanas, which he uses for slashes and stabs, and Raphael uses dual sais, which aside from some spinning, are better used for stabs/pokes.

you know what, this is perfect. I seen in a magazine that blade man was actually drawn up by someone several years ago as a robot master idea for Capcom, who finaly decided to use it for mega man 10! how cool is it, that blade man has made it full circle back into the hands of the fans?

dude, you HAVE to finish the character now. as gwonam would say: it is written!

you don't need to rotate the head (or any other part) in vertical axis (like clockwise), I can do that.
What I need its pieces rotated in horizontal axis (like you did with the head).

I started to clean the sprites. Each sprite tooks like 2min to clean, but I think it worths at the end.

Those are the walk and backwalk animations, were I used the fencing stand animation as a base. In the backwalk, I tried to give it a more defensive stance, so his head is bent backward.

Blademan is coming along really nice, I like the results.  A lot of cool ideas here with how he attacks and how he attacks with his head.  The walk came out really nice too.  Blademan has a neat design since he's skinnier then any other robot masters. 
I was wondering how long it would take to clean up each sprite.  A few minutes each on each sprite isn't long at all.

While I am not at the same level of Rage, Laspacho, Magma and others good spriters, I liked the results :)

Its a matter of remove few straw pixels and fix some lines.

I was thinking about what kind of character BladeMan is. He is guide of ancient castle and walking encyclopedia when it comes to swords, but there isn't much more info than this. Would it be out of character to do 360-spin and curtsey special (or hyper's end) like Breakers Revenge's Pierre or SC's Raphael would. Will it be out of character Fruit Ninja intro/winpose - throw fruits in air and chop them in jumping attacks. Probably this BladeMan will define image of his more than Capcom did.

the fans usually do that anyway. sometimes the companies even follow the fans definition of characters, simply because that's how they are perceived by the public now.

Yeah, you are right. BTW, also glad to see someone who likes Warriors series too. Was playing in Samurai Warriors 4-II with custom character with twin swords before monitor died on me (honestly, it's one after another, even month hadn't passed since I replaced dead stabilizer, have no cash for new one now, so monitor waits for replacement, I'd be super glad to lift at least sprite cleaning from Ilu's shoulders now, ehh...) so the game could be used for references.

yeah, I have samurai warriors 3 on the wii (which I play on my wii u). it's good. it's a bit slower paced than the standard warriors games, which took a little getting used to at first, but i'm loving it. can't wait to get a PS4. all the good warriors games I don't have system for are on it.

but yes, several characters from the warriors games to draw inspiration from. maybe not copy some of their moves, but at least check them out and maybe get an idea for another move.

and I hear ya about the monitors. had the same problem with controllers a while back. money's tight, and when your controllers just keep pooping out on you, it makes you want to pull your hair out.

use sword man's move! flame blade I think it's called. might work for one of the power sets? but then again, this one's so obvious you probably already thought of it.

This would work well as a taunt, especially if it causes damage if the opponent gets close!

As far as powersets goes, I think most bladed weapons could work well, like Metal Blade, Shadow Blade, Tengu Blade (notice a pattern?), Boomerang Cutter, Flame Sword and Silver Tomahawk.

Was thinking about other Men with no arms, but that isn't nice theme. Though I'd like to see different usage of CrashMan's weapon, like uppercut leaving drills inside enemy exploding in the air. \-/o

* Rolling Cutter: Boomerang-like projectile. Could hit twice.
* Metal Blade: Multi-hitting projectile.
* Shadow Blade: Multiple single-hit projectiles.
* Silver Tomahawk: Projectile which goes up in an arc.
* Flame Sword: Close range attack, burns the opponent. Could add extra properties like stun or guard crush.
* Tengu Blade: Ricocheting projectile.

you know, as an alternate pallete, you could use colors from characters like Leonardo or even, dare I say it, Edward scisorhands! ...although Edward would likely turn out to be just monochrome colors, and the reference would be lost.

hey, here's an idea. maybe for a power set. draws in one or both swords, and switches out for cutman's scissors. as for what he does with them, that's up to you, though I don't imagine you want to go to far into the realm of projectiles with him.

you know, you really might want to consider some of cervantes' throws from soul caliber. stab through, then lift and throw I think... or maybe stab through and then kick off... I am one SICK individual...

hmm? how do you plan to incorporate martial arts with a character who has swords for hands? I mean, kicks are a given, but the blades? most of jeet kun do involves the hands IIRC. tae kwon do I could see, since it primarily uses the legs, but with a character like this, that's almost to easy. i'm gonna guess you want to make him truly original. either way, i'm sure he'll make a fine addition to any roster. I know I want him for mine.

i'm also seeing a trend. you're keeping the head virtually motionless. is that something you're planning on changing in the future, or will it stay that way?

I was a martial artist myself (judo, kickboxing, Muay Thai, South Shaolin Kung Fu and Snake Kung Fu, JJ and some wrestling). We can adapt most of the hand attacks to swords, its not that hard.

the jabs straights and even backhands I can see, but at that point, they... oh wait, I get it now. you're not trying to make a sword user fight like a bare handed fighter, your goal is to apply martial arts in a way that would work like a sword based fighting style, right? I mean, of course he can't punch. of course he can't do a back hand attack. if he tried, it would be what it's supposed to be. a sword attack!

am I thinking along the right lines now?

I basicaly need to aling the black border (because it get jagged in some frames), add the black border where it isn't present (pay attention to Blademan's right - our left - leg, the sword has no outline) and cleaning straw pixels. I can send you each frame in .PCX, because I need then in different frames and in pcx so I can easily import it back.

I will pm you some frames.

By knowing how "much" progress were made for TomahawkMan here and looking at your comments that character is one hell of monstrous abomination... Maybe someday he'll receive deserved attention and effort to become real TomahawkMan. Heh, I remember his cool look during smoking that pipe I drew in sitting animation Blizzard Buffalo (correct me if I'm wrong and that wasn't him) made with smoke from metal slug...

Humm, well, than he won't be able to change to RM's weapons too... It's then only way like making elemental attacks. Like burning fire slash, invisible wind cut, vampire stab, lightning ground strike, etc... Still don't know why it's impossible, others have different stuff coming from busters, including swords and weapons appearing from thin air...

HVA sent me some voices for Blademan, done by a friend of him, and I liked the result.
But this is main question: Should I use the French voices or the English with French accent voices?

Learned a tiny bit of French in school, but not enough to understand what will BladeMan say unless it's super simple, like said "en garde", "mon amie", etc. Do like how French sounds, but also like to know what's being said... 2 langs are extra work, but can't say I like one over other ~X( if it'll be 1 - make it like Gambit.

Not really. Its the double of work for the VA and he is doing this for free. I would be ashamed to ask such thing for him.

But Blade man is at the bottom of my priorities for now, since I have a lot of stuff to do.

2018 wasn't a good year for me in many aspects and I hadn't free time enough to finish this character this year.

I even thought about canceling this project but in the last few days I found the files again and I think it could be an interesting character to have in Mugen.

Nice idea. I wanted to use the backwall which is present on his stage in anyway. Maybe we will need to convert it.
