Title: Features missing in Mugen
Post by: Jelux Da Casual on November 19, 2018, 05:46:49 PM
You know what I JUST realized are an option? Scanlines.

That's subconsciously been bugging me in the back of my mind for YEARS, but I haven't been able to reach that conclusion until now.

That's what made arcades look great back in the day, the designers played the strength of scanlines. A prime example of that is Metal Slug. Metal's slugs sprites with scanlines look really rough.

Wait, DOES mugen have an options for scanlines and I've just never known about it?!

Connect your PC to an old television, and you got your scanlines.  =D>
or you can try Retroarch (didn't tried it myself) https://www.retroarch.com/ and see if that CRT shader is true (or just google "crt shader" on google, if that helps)

Anyway, I think MUGEN has a lot more stuffs to include:
- platforms.
- beat'em'up mode
- videos (not just frame-by-frame intros)
- a proper, not hacked, tag system
- customizable story mode (or "arcade order") for each char
- 3d backgrounds (so some people won't waste their brain into tweaking the impossible)
- a decent pause mode, with editable command list
- the g*ddamn Alt+Enter button enabled
- graphic settings into options, not in mugen.cfg (or a GUI configurator)
- open source (so anything of the above will be achieved)
- a more secure system that doesn't allow smart people to break other people's pc's through their chars
- a character/stage encription so all those flamewars between communities will end
- 16 million colors stages / effects (I'm not saying chars because 256 colors are enough, I guess, for 2d)

and I would go on... but I would also prefer Elecbyte to officially announce they're NEVER going back to updating MUGEN... so at least some saints will start reverse-engineering it to provide an open-source version, but I know I'm dreaming. Either Elecbyte is scared of updating or they enjoy their users drowning in the current situation.
