Sorry, I put this in the wrong forum board... As I said, I would like to volunteer to make Searchman for Megaman Robot Master Mayhem. I hope no one else had the idea, though it wouldn't be that big of a deal. I should begin spriting in August.

not to be busting your balls but then you should have announced this wip when you have stuff to show. rather then saying im starting soon. oh well lol the same was said to me when i started Axl. I had nothing to show and was saying id start soon. In the end i finished Axl. What im saying is i look forward to what you have in store for us.

I agree.  I'm going to let this topic stay here a little longer, then I will move this topic to the mugen discussion section until the first sprite is finished.  I'm not rushing HypnotizeMugen for a sprite by any means but our usual rule here is for a wip topic you need at least one sprite or screen shot to show.

I'll tell you what. I can display a base sprite this Saturday and you guys can tell me what you think. I currently am unable to start now, but I can definitely whip up a sprite on Saturday. Heck, I can guarantee it. Just give me a little more time.

You don't need to. Mugen is a hobby, for fun, and should be faced like that.

Take your time. If if gets moved to Mugen Discussion, its not a problem.

I've been thinking of making other Robot Masters besides Searchman... maybe Astroman, or Cloudman, or Flashman. But spriting is kinda tough... and I'm not gonna be able to work on sprites all the time because of school... I'll do just for Searchman.

Looks good to me, your of to a good start.  He can use a little more shading in spots and maybe a bigger left arm but your on the right track.  Great job.

Well, his everything is too small. Search Man does have a size difference on Mega Man, both in width and height, not a huge one but it is noticeable enough.

That's a good start, man, especially you're a beginner of spriting. It looks decent though but I like it. I know some day you will make him crouch, block, etc. for the Mugen requirement. First off, you will start showcasing. But if you feel like you want to have it as a WIP then you're welcoming to do so. The sprite is all up to you. And I wish you luck for it. Spriting is tough, including shading. But you never have to give up on what you need.

It looks good for a start. My tip is that you should sprite each part separately (legs, torso and arms), then assemble them. The legs obviously are the easy part, since you just need to edit Megaman legs.

I was thinking today that I should increase his size, because he does indeed have a slight size difference over Megaman. So I am going to make him a little taller, a little wider, and increase his head size. I am also going to recolor him to match his official artwork, and make his radar smaller, and you can all tell me which is better.

I see what you mean, Fou. I basically revamped the entire sprite. I have to fix the heads some more, as well as the cannon, legs and feet. I still have to work on the camoflauge too. And he doesn't have a crystal, that's his radar, and I have to fix that. I made it smaller to match his actual Capcom artwork, which is why I changed the palette too. I can use the first palette as an alternate color.
Thanks for noting these mistakes, man. Now I can go full-force to fixing this!

P.S. Uhh... I accidentally put Searchman a little bit higher than he's supposed to be. My bad!  o.O#

My tip again is to sprite each part separately, then assemble at the end. In this case, you could sprite the heads separated from the torso, as well as the arms.

To give you an example, here is an old Yamatoman sprite I did:

In this case, i sprited the legs and torso first, then I sprited each part separately the way I saw fit.

Sadly your Yamato Man isn't a full character :( I agree with this tip, it also makes work faster because you don't need to redraw same torso again and again for each arm movement in same position of it etc.

I just had an insane idea. Why not work on two characters at the same time? Well, because it's good to focus on one at a time. But I wanna do two! So I decided I'll work on both Searchman AND Swordman.

I'd say work on one character first, since people who tend to work on two at the same time seem to lose interest in the projects quicker. But it's up to you. ;)

Also, Megaman XR is practically what this project was before. :thumbsup:

take it easy people do this stuff as they feel like it. remember its a hobby. not job so you do it for fun,

over all the sprite looks good. one can clearly see now that he is taller then megs. your line quality is a bit shaky. i think you need to become more comfortable of the spriting process. this will happen with time. On that note however you need to sharpen those lines for the cannon arm. The cannon look skewed. also work on the prospective with the chest . the portion of the chest that sticks out look a tad off and it doesn't stick out that far ether. you did great work with the heads but try and give them some personality. they are different from each other.  other minor thing would be knee guards, belt, and the arm but that could be the perspective with that. But yeah the biggest thing as said before is line quality.

Please dont say that its all bad there is good in there and you need to know that. if you want if you send me the sprites i can animate them. Im sure some one around here could also point you in the direction of a free program that animates gifs.

I have to fix the back later. The next set of sprites will include the back, trust me. I'll consider using your heads, too, Fou, though they look a little too menacing for Searchman. I'll fix the jaw on the second head later, now that I remember it's supposed to stick out. D'oh!

FINALLY! After tedious, strenuous work, I have finally completed the run! YES!! (Mind you all, there are tons of inconsistencies that I can fix in the future, but this is it! And, the reason why Searchman runs with the top half looking the same for each sprite is partly because I got lazy, and partly because I wanted him to have a militant run, like Searchman.EXE. So he holds his cannon in his hand for every sprite.)

I need help! I started importing my sprites onto the RMM template in Fighter Factory Ultimate. Since I converted my bitmap sprites into PCX sprites, it was easy. But I can't get rid of the purple background, and when I modify the pallette, the sprites get messed up! What do I do???

Before adding sprites you need to add all the colors to the pallet of the character.  See if this helps you.  :)
Step 1 is open your searchman sprite.
Step 2 will put his colors in the bottom right box.  Then you can select all his colors.
Step 3 you select the same amount of boxes on the left side and click the butt on to move the colors over.
Then save the pallet.
Now you can add all of your sprites with the correct colors.

All right, everyone. Yesterday I started the 11th grade, so I won't be on the IMT forums so much anymore. Furthermore, I will not update this post anymore until I can do a significant amount of work on Searchman. I will post on other topics whenever I do log on, however.

Well, whatever. Some news.
First, I changed my display name to "Hypnotize Dragmire." (I like Ganondorf! But my creator name can stay "Hypnotize.")
Second, a stroke of bad luck during the last few months has hit me. Though I haven't done too much on Searchman, he was erased from my flash drive as I had to format it. It was acting weird. So I lost all of my data, and had to retrieve my sprites. That's why I haven't updated this topic since November. I have joined Fou on his quest to develop Kirby: The Dream Battle, and I don't know when I'll get back to Searchman. But hopefully, it's sooner than later.
I'm happy for everyone's development on each character, and I again hope to resume work on Searchman.

Okay everyone, I am officially resuming spritework on Searchman today. (I haven't had time recently, don't kill me.) While I do, I decided I will tell you all the moves I have in mind.

--Special Moves--

-Homing Sniper- Shoots a missile that homes in on opponent.
-Trap Shot- Shoots a disk with spiked edges that bounces off walls.
-Bush Detonation- A bush falls with a hidden dummy. After a second, the leaves disperse, and the dummy self-destructs after three seconds.
-Jetpack- Flies around with jetpack. Moves above are air-compatible, so I have to do two sets of sprites, one on ground, and one in air, for the moves.

--Hyper Attacks--

-Missile Rain- Opens up chest, aims up, and missiles rain on opponent. It's exactly like War Machine's War Destroyer.
-Bush Lock-On- Searchman jumps and disappears, and three bushes fall onto stage. Two have dummies, one has the real Searchman. A reticle homes on opponent, and if it lands, the fakes will explode, and Searchman will shoot missiles. If after three seconds the reticle doesn't land on-target, Searchman will jump out randomly and shoot.
-Trap Shooter- Endless discs will fly out of Searchman's cannon. This is the name of one of Broly's Blast Attacks.  ;D (Can be done in air.)
-Solar Beam- Searchman shoots a... solar beam. Huh. (Can be done in air.)
-Deadly Storm- Searchman's signature attack in Megaman 8. His chest opens up, and missiles blast the opponent into a wall, bombing him endlessly. (Level 3 Hyper)

I'm not too sure if Powersets are required for every character, but if they are, my ideas are here.

--Powersets--

--Hyper Bomb (Bombman, Megaman)--
A delayed bomb, explodes on gorund after three seconds.

--Dive Missile (Diveman, Megaman 4)--
A slow yet strong missile. Laspacho's Toadman has this!

--Napalm Bomb (Napalmman, Megaman 6)--
These bombs fly in an arched path to the unsuspecting foe.

--Spark Bomb (Grenademan, Megaman 8)--
A multi-hit bomb that shocks the opponent. I think Rage's Quint has this!

--Commando Bomb (Commandoman, Megaman 10)--
This bomb flies in a horizontal path, falls vertically, and creates a shockwave. I cheated; I looked this up, because I never played Megaman 10. (It's in my house collecting digital dust, so to speak.)

As you can see, I wanted bombs and missiles as Powersets to match Searchman's military style. Of course.

So what do you think? If anyone has suggestions, I'm open to anything! I hope you all like the ideas, too.

Its a bit overused. Why not Photon Missile, from Megaman V Mars robot? It has a cool delay before attack, so it could act as a trap.

Searchman does have a jetpack, so he should utilize it. About the solar beam... I thought it would be cool!

I just discovered an amazing way to color-replace... on MS Paint! (Paint is all I use...) Now spriting Searchman will be way easier and faster! I'm so happy!

...Isn't that something really silly to be excited about? I mean, I haven't been spriting because color replacement was a huge hassle until now. At least now I can spend less time coloring and more time putting sprites together.

No, you don't understand.
I'm not talking about a palette, I'm talking about the shading or the light going on the character to create depth on a 2D drawing. You must add some colors on your palette to create a shading.

Yes, I know. I don't like it too. But it's only because I've tried to respect and keep the drawing of Hypnotize.

I understand you want to keep it like this, no problem.
Palettes will surely do the thing.  :)

I was thinking the same thing! I love you for that. I do love the work you did on the cannon, so I'm gonna start using that in my individual sprites. Speaking of palettes, anyone have any ideas?

Nope. No way. Searchman is weak to fire, most importantly the Flame Sword. And he doesn't use saws. He uses missiles and trap shots and such.

Nah, but, what attacks would Searchman borrow from her? She has bombs, and giant hands, and other retro cartoony stuff. She's a walking classic-cartoon arsenal. I'll do some research (YouTube) but I doubt she has anything.

Okay, I'm actually kinda aggravated. In what world would Searchman have a Peacock-based attack? They are nothing alike! As a matter of fact, I'm not considering it. I just remembered I already listed Searchman's moveset, so no more attack suggestions. I would like palette suuestions, though. I don't have many ideas right now.

Okay, I regret editing my post. Well, I dunno. It's an okay idea, like the Bob-Ombs in Super Mario Bros. A sort of motion-sensor thing. But I had the list set in stone, and I decided I didn't want bombs. I might change my mind... Maybe land mines and walking bombs can work...

SerachMan should also borrow attacks from other chars with homing attacks, such as Cyber Peacock from MegaMan X4. Just a suggestion.

I was gonna say that; he was actually making me angry! That's why I wrote this:

At first, when he said "Screw Crusher" I thought "WTF!?" Then he said "Peacock" and I was like "......Really?" Then he said "walking bombs" and I considered it. Searchman is a military-type robot, so any bombs could work. But everything else was stupid. I was quite annoyed and angry.  \-/o So I'm not asking for moves, but palettes, because palettes would be nice. But no more stupid move suggestions.

I had some in mind, though these can work. The thing is, when I tried separating the colors, I found the head colors were different from the body colors, and I was so frustrated I quit separating them. At least now I know the heads and body won't need to share the same color. I'll attempt separating the colors again another time, unless someone wants to take a swing at it...  :-??

Hello everyone. I haven't updated this post in a while, but I'm not posting an update here now. I have bad news; of course, many of you can now figure out what I'm gonna say.
I have decided to end work on Searchman.
Now I know many of us RMM followers have been ridden with ceased work on characters we wanted to see, like Starman and Tomahawkman. And I hate to add to that unfortunance, but in all honesty, I ran into this project with little experience and lack of time and resources.
You see, I do not own a computer. When I started a year ago, I only used my mom's laptop and computers at a public library. Now my usage has been reduced to the laptop. I don't own a computer, so when I can actually have one full-time, I can dedicate more time to spriting if I so choose.
Also, time has not been on my side. Schoolwork and social life take away from my work. As does impatience. And since I have been in summer school, I have realized I'm gonna need to have the time to do this. And the issue of the computer comes up here too.
Lastly, I wanna go off on my own. After seeing Beximus and Sabaki have their projects shown here, it made me want to work on projects I wanna see even more. I honestly want to start my own Tatsunoko vs. Capcom game, and I want to learn more about coding and spriting, so maybe, in the future, my project will be shown on IMT too, like CFR and Red Earth: FM, so the team can help me too. Of course , I gotta start on my own first, so that I can have a presentable start.
So yeah. I would really like to thank everyone who helped me get on my feet, like Rage, who helped upload the GIFs of my sprites, and Fou and Oil Man for sprite edits, however minor. I wanna thank Laspacho for starting the project, because it got me more into MUGEN than any other project could. And I really want to apologize to everyone for leaving the character incomplete. I had ideas for a bunch of characters for this game, but until I have proper resources, time, and experience, I can't flesh 'em out.
So, I guess this topic can be locked after a few people read and reply here. I'll still be on this board faithfully, just not on this topic. (Of course.) Um... and, like I said, I wanna start this TvC game, so I'll try to practice coding for the characters I want in it. For now, though, I don't have time to sprite. Coding, maybe. So expect to see a TvC topic in the future! (I hope...)
