Title: Stage Preview in Select Screen
Post by: Lifewater on February 25, 2009, 03:03:48 PM
Has this been done to any screenpack, how might I go about turning this into a tool
It was said to be implemented on Street Fighter Classic Demo by Enjou
http://www.mugenchina.org/~enjuo/ (http://www.mugenchina.org/~enjuo/)
Site shut down due to warehousing  :rulez:XD|| *Iceman ThumbsDown!* and crying :'(
This is the article and the process to implement this idea in its own way
turning a printscreen of the stage into a font and displaying it as like a text/picture
http://mugenguild.com/forumx/index.php?topic=43247.0 (http://mugenguild.com/forumx/index.php?topic=43247.0)

My question has anyone thought of a way to implent this into the mugen game
is there a screenpack that purhaps can implement this such as the Modern Screenpack
Any Ideas Welcome

TIA

is a little trick:

you must do a font with a snap shot of every stages (this would works just in full games), and assing a letter for each stage:

A = Ryu stage
B = Dhalsin Stage

etc...

then, you rename your Ryu_stage.def to A.def, Dhalsin to B.def and so on.

got it?

The SMvC game has stage preview.

Like O Ilu said, you need to make a font that has stage pictures instead of letters, then you name each stage the same letter that matches it's picture in the font file you made. Then as you scroll through the stages in mugen, you'll see the picture for each stage.

Everytime you want to add a new stage you have to edit the font to add the extra stage picture and assign it to another letter.

Thumbnails can be mapped to any ASCII character.

You could have a stage named: Stagename $

In most normal fonts, it would show up as Stagename.

In a font where all alphanumeric characters were omitted with stage previews, it would appear as whatever thumbnail is mapped to $.

Thank you all for your help so apparently this is the only way. Perhaps a tool may be developed to do this for time it is run cycles through all the stages using stage viewer. and streamline them into a font, then add the appropriate strings, and intergers. Do you think this possible. And thanks again.

I think a tool like what you are considering could work, but there will be a limit to how many stages can be added (i.e. whatever the character limit for a mugen font is).

Also, stage previews just won't work for every screenpack. Some of them will take a bit of modifying for this to display in a half-way decent manner.

A tool for creating one of these fonts would probably work best as an add-on that creators can include with their screenpacks. That way, creators could build the pack to support stage previews and still make it relatively easy for users to add them in.

Just my thoughts on this....
