Title: Birdy (Partner of Sabretooth)
Post by: alex87 on May 17, 2020, 10:33:08 AM
Hi everyone. After quite some time I still decided to finally complete Birdy (since in my opinion, the Birdy that is in circulation in our Mugen I do not find the real Birdy). The problem is that not being as good as many people I see, sometimes I get down and decide to stop. I need someone with enough experience in drawing sprites to help me out. I have some complete material and a lot of ideas on how to organize my Birdy. I hope at least one person can help me since I would like to use it in my mugen, since he is one of the characters I am most fond of !! Thanks in advance :-)

I fixed the Winpose edited by Morrigan and the one edited by Jean Gray (X-Men COTA). I hope they are perfect now:

I read about it. it looks like the mugen version, this one is quite accurate. I do not understand, why you want to start another one from scratch, when there is already such a good one.

what led me to create characters, it was because I realized, that some would never be made.

Then, I learned later, that I didn't like some characters enough to make a mugen version of them. And that I should never play, a character, that already exists. I made a superman, but it was pure pride. I should have used Hanibbal's. He retired from mugen more than a decade ago. My project was canceled and I lost a year of my life in this superman. In a superman, who has no purpose at that moment. If I took it further, it would have to be better than the existing ones. Do you imagine, how much energy would I waste on that?

But if you have a vision of it, and think you should do it, then do it. But I have to tell you, it can be a long way.
It has to be worth it, because time is precious.

Of course, you are completely right. To tell the truth, I had started Birdy much earlier than the existing one. The problem is that I need help from someone who is good enough with the sprites, so at least I learn and divide the work so I can finish it right away. I would like to make this Birdy mvc version (just like the original) and once finished I would like to fix and complete the beta of TEN (Dc Comics). In the forums dedicated to the mugen, rightly there are people who already have work in progress, I would like at least one hand since with Birdy I already have work ready and I really hope that at least one person can help me.

If I can give you an advice: don't wait for help. Do it yourself. People like to take, not give. And if you can afford it, pay it. Whether by some animations or codes. I've already raised money, to pay code for dark wolverine and jaspion. It wasn't from my pocket, but it was from people who were interested in characters. They owe me nothing, and I owe them nothing. It was an exchange.

Of course, I understand, however, I am of the thought that I create the characters that interest me, without asking for money. I'd like to see my character in some MVC games such as X-Men Second Coming. Anyway thanks for the advice

No, you will not ask for money, you will give yours. I'm not telling you to ask. I didn't ask, people offered to speed up the launch.

Good Luck

Hey Alex
Good to see you're around
i was considering today to come back to spriting but i need to re-learn how to sprite with photoshop now as its been a long time, otherwise i would try to help

nice job in birdy

When Eclipse started birdy for project X, the idea was todo a real caracter , but as you might have noticed by now there's not many sources or appearances of birdy in comics, she's completely obscure and forgotten(sadly) so he decided to go with a joke character like norimaro , as not even marvel comics took her seriously
i Admire the idea , and since Eclipse gave up on mugen im pretty sure you can use his sprites as starting point if you like it (just give due credit)

looking forward to see it

hello Xfields what a pleasure to hear from you !!! I too, unfortunately, do not change sprites time and I hope again to resume making them at least decent. Mine wasn't a criticism of the other Birdy, I like the Eclipse version only that I didn't share a few choices that's all. It is true that not much is known about Birdy, however we know that he uses firearms and psycho powers so it was enough to invent something. I was just thinking of editing from his (by paying the credits rightly), if he will go and you can help me so at least let's make this Birdy really well done (as an example your Cat Woman) obviously in MVC1 Style;) (I hope my English is understandable)

Thank you very much navs41 ! I try to check, however my idea was to take inspiration from Poison (one of the chars that I see much more similar to Birdy in the movements and attacks)

I was suggesting you take Jessica Jones as a wip instead or use C. Viper for inspiration for attacks. Yup, Poison is a good start, maybe check Baroness by Prime Op too.

You can also try Shadow Yamato from Eternal Champions as a base for what's missing, you will have to scratch/rotoscope plenty, but there a couple of good moves there you could use (jump, roll, lose, winpose) and her size seems to be alright (proportionately).

I agreed, regarding the Baroness by Prime Op, I was already working on something such as the intro that I would like to do with Sabretooth:

I hope you can like it as an idea

Hi everybody
im lending a hand to alex in this wip
as you may know , i helped in the original birdy by eclipse , and have some other released and unreleased chars in my career
as you may also know, there's not many resources from birdy from comics(such a shame) so Alex has imagined she walks like Poison, so i took it straight from the video, draw over it and here is the partial outcome.
i would like to hear some thoughts about it
thanks you all.

Xfields is preparing attacks that will make you appreciate this version of Birdy (in my opinion).  :w00t:

Good evening (or good morning) to all. Xfields and I are continuing with the work on Birdy and I feel satisfied with what we are getting. I wanted some advice on Hypers:

I had thought of 4 Hypers for her including:

1) His classic with a firearm
2) Mind Blast (I'm trying to make it identical to this comics picture)

(https://funkyimg.com/p/35DLV.jpg) (https://funkyimg.com/view/35DLV)

3) Call Sabretooth support (I wanted to do the same thing that Sabretooth does with her)
4) we are still deciding

Do you have any advice?

Thank you and good day

Do you have any advice?

Get all general movement + gethits + attacks first...
You can build the hypers later, reusing some sprites.

She uses humongous guns, why not make that her staple instead of just copying random characters?, like carrying her big gun all the time and use it to strike, block, shoot and as anchor to balance her weight around it... not really sure why would she move like a dominatrix if she's a mercenary trained in weapons... unless she's physically weak and not really athletic.

Regardless of the route, some observations:

It's hard to judge when all animations are misaligned, details are misaligned too, feet don't follow a line path.
If I align the head, feet misalign, if I align the feet then head shakes, went with the feet and it looks like she's limping:
Breasts stretch a frame, head goes back and breast go front.
Details jump around (leg shade, knee, abdomen, crotch, arm folds, hand).

The point of the line is to keep things aligned, look closely at her left foot (viewer's right), a couple more frames wouldn't hurt either.

?
Legs are huge, remember to start the animation from the stance.

Hi Alice, thanks for your comment ... the problem is that I am not good with sprites and for me it is very difficult to solve possible errors which is why sometimes I ask for help in the forums but with negative results

My guess is that most of these come from the use of SFV as base - I know that's what Xfields used (Poison).

Camera in 3D games may result in some perspective artifacts, even though the game itself works as a 2D-fighting game.
Resizing screenshots for rotoscoping will probably result in blurred lines too, leaving room for a 1-px variation anywhere in the sprite.
And the frame rate can be variable depending on what platform you are using and how are you ripping sprites/screenshots.

My suggestion for you, Alex, is that you start working those details Alice pointed out in the walk forward and make best use of the floor lines that were given to you. I think some pixel pushing/cut and paste with very little pixel coloring is enough to fix them.

thanks for the advice, I'll try. In case of failure, I will change my walk by editing it by some marvel 2d character
