LEONARDO MUGEN WIP by Acey

This has been on my mind for years now and one evening last week I got started. I've got a quite a few ideas down for how this is going to play out so I'm going to continue to share them as the animations get hashed out.

Nice to see you back!
The edit is awesome, but aren't the legs too long? He looks more like a frog than a turtle.

It looks too basic. Where is the strap for his Kitanas?

@ Volz, If you're referring to some shading there, I agree. It hops around a bit.

@ O Ilu, Thanks, I feel that they are the right length.

@ Uche, I'll be adding the single strap further on. I'm also keeping a set of strapless, weaponless base sprites... just in-case I need them later.

Yeah, good luck on that.

By the way, are you planning to do the rest of the Turtles after Leo is done?
Game on!

It would ne nice to have all 4 without them just being clones. I guess honestly time will tell. I think Michelangelo would be the most fun to make but Donatello is my favorite.

Ooh, this is a nice surprise  :cool

Do you plan on borrowing moves from other TMNT games or will you have original moves?

Right now I'm planning on all original attacks. TMNT Tournament fighters had projectiles and other silly attacks, the arcade game had boring attacks. I'll animate what seems right based on the personality, weapon ands skills of the character. I'm always open to suggestions too.

Personality-wise, Leo is the most level-headed and no-nonsense of the four, so something more direct and less fancy would suit him well.

leo would do well with a drop to the background- strafe type counter then chop facing directly forward
another would be a slash dash straight ahead, through the opponent , can do this multiple time in a hyper version
a roll around whilst in air swords spining, then stab opponent to the ground for a aerial hyper
and maybe a sword to the ground, kick up some dirt on them for the taunt

Yup, original turtles have tails... and they were removed by producers later because... they don't look like tails...   :Wink

And this guy won't have a tail either.

Something that could be incorporated is an intro where he is a little turtle
(with a tail, if you want) plodding along into a green puddle, with a canister beside it, then he grows into Leonardo, sort of like a caveman to human
although its not really something that is relevant to Leonardo's abilities

I'm a fan of those type of intros, things that reference their history or different versions.

FYI, I'm not animating today. I'm using Youtube to figure out how someone would really fight with two katanas. That will help me animate the punches.

Light punch you could use the end of the sword (not the pointy end)

Great to see you back and great work, Acey! What gets me is his head faces in the 3-quarter view while standing and/or walking. Though it's a great concept, head kinda looks static. I don't want to be rude when I ask this. Was it intentional that you planned to make him face like that or will you have time to change the facing?

@ Arkady, I'm going to have him stab for the LP, then slice for the MP and HP. I can't imagine anyone realistically poking with the handle. (Not that slicing people up without blood is realistic either though.)

@ Enso, Thanks Enso. It is intentional that the head doesn't rotate though. He's maintaining eye contact with his opponent while he walks. The head will be all over the place for the attacks though.
