I'm still waiting for price and backward compatability, no info on those items yet. It looks like they might have fixed the D-pad though.

no backward compatibility
360 used a custom powerpc/cell architecture cpu
the new one uses an amd x86 architecture cpu

though i heard they will be releasing another add-on box for ~$100-150 that will let you play 360 games (it's basically a second console in a box)
You know they're scraping the bottom of the barrel when they make me a mod

The real question is.....can it make me toast? To be honest I don't see the excitement, the difference between one generation and another is now so tiny. If you don't play games on PC I can understand the buzz a bit, but I'd personally wait for PS4 since it will have better support overseas. Then again, what do I know...the last console I got excited about and got in line at launch for was Sega Dreamcast. The only console I plan on getting next is a Retron 5  :P

Oh and why call it "Xbox One"?  That just makes no sense, they already made that.

I think they're going to go the iPad rout. Expect the XBox 2 in about a year after the release of this one.

Microsoft, you be crazy!  :P After all these years, still leeching off Apple ideas. Consoles are getting way too weird for me, I miss the simplicity of just plugging in a cartridge, turning on the system and just play. Guess I'm just getting too old for this stuff it seems.

Reading elsewhere, people are not exactly impressed by what Microsoft had to show. But to be fair, it can't be called a train wreck till it releases and then see how it does at retail. As for the show, whether it bombed or not is up to personal perception and opinion.

Though I do feel they are putting too much focus on non-game related functions. But that seems to be where the whole game industry is heading, less focus on gaming and more on social applications/media and gimmicks.

I figure I'll probably buy one... in about 5 to 7 years.

I'm excited to hear about how cheap the new Xbox 360 is going to be though. Either a cheap console or I would love it to be a handheld instead.

They could've gone with the current gen for 5-10 more years and probably no one would complain.

I guess everyone wants a piece of the portable gaming pie. Nobody can compete with Nintendo in that market though, but see how gaming has changed in Japan where people are buying less consoles and just playing portables that is where the future is. I just wish the industry would put the focus back on games.

I honestly think Sony could take a piece of the portable pie with the Vita.

The problem is that the Vita doesn't have many good games for it. They're either crap or available on the PS3 as well.

Like...there's very little reason to have a Vita now.

That's why Nintendo has such a monopoly on the market, all the portable games worth having are always on Nintendo's handhelds with tons of exclusives. Nintendo could survive with just handhelds alone considering how much they dominate that area. Nobody else puts enough effort into portables like they do. Plus Nintendo hardware is always more sturdy.

Good point, the "tone-it-down" last gen, cheaper price model that Nintendo is using is really working well for portables. I think that's one of the problems with the Vita, it's so expensive and the game selection is still generally low.

Nintendo is using this same model with their console and it's not doing so well right now and in fact they were betten out last christmas by Microsoft and Sony with prior gen systems.

Yeah, I feel bad for Nintendo and their Wii U, but at the same time they should have planned better. They rushed it out too quickly with not enough software and confusing the consumer with the name "Wii U". Also they need to put less focus on gimmicks and more on the actual games. Keep the hardware simple (think NES), but innovate with the software.

So... How 'bout that used game fee?

That's really the only thing I had a problem with, but unfortunately it's a deal breaking problem for me.

So....basically just a PC in a box...I already got one of those  :P Sure wish companies would ditch all this motion control stuff, no more gimmicks please. It looks like a set top box...I miss my funky looking game consoles with carts sticking out. Man, I'm too old school for this stuff.

I also don't like "Always Online", who has a stable enough connection for that?

What I'm tired of is how people were whining about how some consoles can't play DVDs or BluRays.

If I wanted a BluRay player, I'd get a BluRay player.

Yeah, quite a few things I'm hearing that I'm really not liking so far. As is, I'm not interested here.
