SEGA fans rejoice!
« on: February 02, 2010, 12:46:13 PM »
The Bonanza Bros. and Jacky Bryant along with Akira Yuki as a duo are going to make a playable appearance in Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing! Now all we need is the Hornet from Daytona USA and the Beginner course.

I hope Ristar makes it as well either as a playable character or a cameo.

I'm hoping for Vectorman. That was a great Sega game and a hard one too.

A video preview of the game which shows gameplay and some of the challenges in the game. The guy in the video also explains five reasons why this game is better than the Mario Kart games. From my point of view, the game looks promising and in the preview the guy claims that DLC will be released for the game after it's launch date so I'm assuming some of your favorite SEGA characters that didn't make it into the final version will appear as DLC. Also, GameMaster magazine gave the console versions of the game 83% and the DS version 70% for the rankings. I also included a video that shows eight of the twenty four tracks that appear in the game.

This game reminds me of crash bandicoot racing for the iphone.

The Xbox 360 version of the demo is now available on the "Game Marketplace"! As far as I know, you can play as either Banjo Kazooie or Sonic the Hedgehog on Seaside Hill's Lost Palace.

I'll definately buy this game.  It appears this games has a wider variety of characters to choose from than Mario Kart and better tracks.

I'll be honest with everyone here, I kinda prefer this game a lot more than Mario Kart since it has a wide variety of characters and tracks from different SEGA franchises than the Mario Kart games. I really wish that this game comes out sooner than February 23rd.

In an early prototype of the game, Sonic raced on foot, Dr. Eggman rode an Eggpod with legs, Tails flew in a biplane, Amy Rose drove a car with Cream the Rabbit as a passenger and Gilius Thunderhead from Golden Axe rode one of the Chickenleg creatures from the game. This version, however, was reportedly not fun to play, largely due to the varying sizes between the different characters, but also because the drift mechanic wouldn't work with racers who were on foot. It was later revised so that everyone would be in cars, bikes, or modified flyers.

I just hope this game doesn't pull a Mario Kart Wii where your in 1st place and last lap, then all of the sudden you get hit by 3 blue shells, a POW, a Lightning bolt, and rammed by a Star power at the last minute.  Other than that, I'm digging this game and I hope that Jet Set Radio and Shenmue have a bright future.

The AI is quite annoying on the Normal difficulty and will take you a couple of tries just to come in 1st place so I recommend you set the difficulty to Easy if you don't want to get frustrated. Besides that, the game is pretty fun and looks like it'll be worth $50 when it comes out on February 23rd. I'll keep you guys updated if anything new pops up about the game.

Alright, sorry for the double post but I got some news concerning DLC.

This afternoon, Steve Lycett clarified and expanded upon some of the finer points of Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, and unfortunately for Wii owners, it’s not good news with regard to downloadable content, as is almost the case with PC users.

“Chances are DLC will be limited to 360/PS3,” Lycett said outright under his S0L handle.  “Whilst it’s entirely possible to do it elsewhere, the big stumbling block is how you actually make it available.”

Lycett said Sumo Digital would have needed to create an in-game store for DLC for anything to be possible within the Wii, and even then, there’s the matter of storage limits.

“You’re looking at over a 100Mb for something like an extra track and character. Which would soon fill the Wii’s internal memory, meaning you then have write SD card support – which has it’s own set of problems,” Lycett said.

We say it’s not as bad for PC users because while Lycett paints a similar scenario for DLC on the PC, he also said may be available easily through the Steam download service.

“Whilst the game will likely be made available via Steam, and you can offer DLC via the same method – what about disk owners?” Lycett said, comparing the limitations to that of the Wii.

The bottom line–it looks like both Wii and PC owners will be shut out of any DLC offering Sega makes for ASR.  We’ll continue to follow developments.

Basically, if any of you guys are considering buying the Nintendo Wii or PC version, there is a good chance that those ports WON'T get DLC.
