Hi, guys, I like megaman and I'd like to contribute something to the project, if not too late, i was just a day and create a stand for Topman (mm3) based in Megaman Battle network.

this would be my first char made from the start.

now I have no time to upload the pictures now. but I think they are decent...

for now I want to know if there is time and someone could help me a bit.

ohh yes.. sorry for my english.. 8) 8) 8)

Well, has spent a few days and some tips of laspacho, could improve some animations topman.

Good work, my only suggestion its to change that walk anim into a "roller" animation,
after all he have wheels! and we need to be creative with the bases,this character will need to be very original on the movement!

(edit): try to add more time to the frames of the walk when he fully steps with the feets to create and illusiong of rolling

2nd original one with different roller and shade for top
3rd looking like official art
4th topman.exe pallet.
I want you to use 3rd as main. Also I've added shading on arms and legs.

Good work! I like it! Only thing i would suggest its that you make the orange a little bit brighter

originally applied a beautiful orange color, but I read over there that was to save the images in 256 colors bitemap, and this was the result, I had thought about doing something about it.
if it is not necessary to keep them in 256 colors, let me know.  ???

after all he have wheels! and we need to be creative with the bases,this character will need to be very original on the movement!

1º he has no pallet, and I have no idea how to do them, it's my first work from nothing.
2º I had put shadows, but then remove them, it was bad decision ..
3º Great pallet, something like that was the original, see what I can do ..

ah, of course,i download the template RMM, but I could not run the sprites, they looked with strange colors, I wish someone explain to me how to replace the megaman sprites..

Ohh, not bad! I like the roll run and the rush (though, the latter could use a bit of work.

I'm glad to see that someone is expanding upon unused material, yes. Top Man deserves to show the Mugen world that he's not a joke, so good luck on his completion, jfa! :thumbsup:

Also, yeah, he'll look better with manic's palette.

You can upload it with .png or probably .bmp. I upload my image with a .png file there, so it looks clear with mine. I suggest you try saving it with .png by changing the file name from jpg to any file type you want. :)

Topman's coming along well. For some reason, I can't look at the spinning sprites without being reminded of Mike Haggar. Curses.

If you're looking for a place to upload an image in png, you might want to consider imageshack. It's what I keep all of my most valuable sprites on.

umm.. i can do combos with this punch, clarified that the char is done faster, and gives a step when it does.
 if the problem is distance, the MVC2cyclops  :cool launcher, does not work, and Dan  o.O# does not work because its gadouken has not range...

I thought in a slide, make a tackle, but it felt right to him, decided that the slide is for the rush and the kick that knocks down (  :2  :bk  ) but if I think of something better or someone has an idea,i'll think

Yes, I thought of making a serie of somersaults, circus style.
or Guile Backflip  ( :2 :8 :bk )
I also thought about throwing tops, leaving a top spinning on the floor, like mine, and launch one ( or two) spin and that this return, like boomerang.
but those special I can not do, for lack of knowledge in programming MUGEN..  :-[
I hope someone with experience in this can lend a hand  ;)

yes, still there because I'm lazy, the only thing I do is uncheck a CheckBox in the Fighter Factory.
Also,delete it but I got hurt  :( , and went back to checking  ;D
I know the first video I said I'd take off, but the feeling for it is stronger than me  :P

Really looking impressive. Glad to see him take a complete shape of his own and resemble practically nothing of what Mega Man is. I would consider removing one of the floor top projectiles though as it seems like he'd be spamming them a lot along with the remote controlled ones. Reminding me of Iceman (MvC) is why I mention it. Unless you were going with that type of play style.

That's what happens when you have a great attitude, are serious about helping, and bust out a great character like this.   ::salute::

I like the new stance.  The Lambada dance might be funny to use after a hyper, to taunt player 2.  Similar to how I have Metalman flex after the blade barrage hyper.

yes, I agree that Topman, being too Spam. may limit the mines to 1. also takes much time to carry out some attacks, and remember that the characters be able to do "dodge move".

i believe he's finished.

I could say that, is almost finished, but is set to the old template has "Push Guard" and the old effect, missing voices and 1 hyper, and the "power set" system and the slide ..
to continue it I thought it was better to wait for the next template and make a mini revamp.

On the other hand, I see no right to launch an incomplete char, but I will not update more on this template, I will share the latest version of a topman with a different style to the project, an alpha (?)

I got it, and I see many misaligned sprites and the char is placed on the wrong position (look at this front leg, is bellow Megaman's front leg. Since they share the same base, the position needs to be the same)

Here is the fixed version.

What I done:

- added small, big and versus portrait
- aligned all the basic and attack sprites (I haven't touched the hitsprites)

You will need to fix the air, since some sprites had changed position. Plus, some clsn are wrong.

Yeah, I always try to help. And I also got some questions:
1. I tried to create a winpose, but TopMan only uses the first frame. How can let him use the whole animation?
2. I tried to add collision to the first hyper (the one, where he kicks like a spaz). Only the regular CLSN boxes work. How can I make the attack CLSN boxes work.
3. I want to add voice acting, but I don't know how to edit SND files...
Also, is there a website, where I can find voice samples of all games? Woth all voice samples saved seperately in the correct format (WAV, I guess) and packed together in a WinRAR/WinZIP file?

2. If animation 200 is the first hyper (the one, where TopMan kicks around), I should try it out. But I don't get to test it out Monday or Tuesday...

That sounds more fitting for his First Hyper, "Spinning Kick". But how about an hyper, where he creates a river, where his tops swim around? The name: "Top River Deposit". What do you think?

But don't worry, WindMan will be the next shoto! His attacks would be mostly based of chars from Street Fighters (not just Ryu, but a whole lot) and an char nicknamed "China" (just guess, who that is).

Okay, I have a request for you all. After I asked laspacho, which Powersets TopMan should use, laspacho answered:
It could be a different way of doing a top projectile on the ground or in the air, or borror another robot's weapon that is somewhat suiting perhaps.
So yeah, I need an animation of TopMan switching powersets (including the shining part) and other powerset ideas.

Close-range techniques like Charge Kick and Slash Claw would fit him as powersets.

Dunno about Slash claw, since he doesn't have a claw.

Some suggestions -

Rolling attack, like Blanka, since he is more a melee based robot. He would roll closed to the ground and rebound when he hits the p2 or the wall. On Air, it could be a downward attack.

Rolling stomp - if the move above is repeated (because you alread have a horizontal spin), you can make it jump and stomp on the enemy head, rolling. Think like Blanka`s Leap Attack

Since he spins quickly, a wind/gust attack should make sense too.

Send me the version of Topman you have been working on.  I'll go through the sprites and make a weapon change for you.  I should get some time to make it at some point this week or over the weekend.  Was a dodge and slide made for Topman yet?
Will do! Not sure, if he has got dodge and slide sprites, but I think, I made most of the anims, that Chaotic's Megaman had, and it only had got onw or two dodges.

Also, I already have decided on 2 of 6 powersets. One of them is already sprited and tested (Air Attack), but the other one only was planned (a pushover of the Guts Rock, but with a giant top instead of a rock), so I also need graphics for that attack.

Are you nuts? You can't simply throw in any random power, they must fit the character. And none of these fits him.

* Triple Kick - Self explanatory;

* Vacuum Wave - Spin rapidly to attract the opponent, then either stun or hit him;

* Dig - Spin rapidly to dig underground then appear on the other side. It could either be a simple teleport move or actually hit the opponent.

I see a contradiction here.

I think Topman's moves should be somerhing related with spin, velocity, air (vacuum) and others. I don't see a piercing move fitting him, but its just me.

Not really. What I tought was to give melee/close-range weapons. I could have suggested Flame Sword, but that would be overboard, since Topman don't use elemental powers.

Okay think mortal kombat king lao. He spins like top man. You know how he spins right? YouTube some videos if you don't. The spin works in three different ways;

Startspinning in place.

One the opponent is pulled toward top man. If they touch him there stunned. This is useful if you have traps on the stage. You pull the opponent into them.

two the opponent is pushed away because top man spins in reverse. Same thing good if you got traps. You push the opponent into them. Gray for a keepaway game.

Three a quick spin. Spin in placE like kung lao knocking the opponent up in to the air or away from top man.

a top is like a drill. It can dig. It be a great teleport move. Its would also make for a attack too. Top men spin digs into the ground popping out under the opponent. Like how how Naruto did neji. Or like smoke and the other cyber ninjas.

A Hyper where he rides a giant top that has blades on the edges. Think bay blade. This would behave similar to mega man hyper with rush drill.

I think the dig and spin I mention are good because all the  moves start the same so its hard to tell what top man is doing. "Is he teleporting  should I attack. Oh no he dig under me! Damn top mean cant tell what he's doing" is what people will say.  :thumbsup:

Another good example on how dig could work is playable Vanilla Ice from JoJo. In one of his moves, he turns into a ball and enters the floor, coming out at a different place in the screen depending on which button you pressed.

I saw an exesive Kung Lao playthrough of MK2, and I didn't saw any spins...While it sounds interseting, I already gave him a move, that will stun the enemy. I just need to edit the attack, so it actually will stun the enemy. Also, the first 2 spins doesn't fit as an actual attack. And the third spin sounds like an attack, that is better suited as an special...

Yep, he really spins. However, TopMan has a spin similar to the one in that video WITHOUT that being based of MK3. It was still a good idea, it just was made already...

Yeah, I already have sent a copy to laspacho, so he could add the powerset changing animation and some better color seperation. But now, I need a sprite of TopMan doing one of ProtoMan's kicks.
Reason: One of ProtoMan's kick looks similar to a slide, which can be tranformed into a Charge Kick.

OK, I'm back, and this time, with a request:
Can someone sprite an animation for TopMan, where he's imitating Guile's Sonic Boom? That attack really fits TopMan, since it's made of air and sonic waves.
And inb4 any comments like "put other Street Fighter attacks":
No, TopMan will not get a second Street Fighter inspired attack. They were all reserved by WindMan.

I hope, you like my idea. At least, Magma Dragoon is a liker of it already (he said, that it has got similarities with one of Strider Hiryu's moves).
Also, about the poll: I had to remove it, and "Broken Top of Protection" had the most votes, but I choose "Biorhythm of the Top", because of it's originality (and because it's easier to describe :D ).

but i have a new idea for his 4th hyper...

Doomsday Typhoon

He starts to spin in hurt frames at the center of the screen... he generates an ultimate Typhoon Tornado Hurrican whatever that makes alot of spinning tops rise from the bottom screen hurting the opponent.
Final act ends with Top Man striking down the floor with the ultimate Typhoon Tornado (hurting the opponent too...).

Top Crush doesn't fit at all...

The Roundhouse Kick you should keep it bro! the only thing left whould be the hitboxes for it...

Top Man spins horizontally to the opponent to go offscreen then comes back to the other screen... and then repeatly... until stop...

Now that sounds interesting. Additionally, I have sprite rips of Date Masamune and Mouri Motonari, so I can even add the part with the crack on the floor. However, it's kind of hard for me to imgaine it properly. Do you have an animation or a video similar to that idea?

He's almost finished, he even has a voice now.
I only need powersets and 2 hypers, and were done.
Thankfully, all hypers are already set in stone.
EDIT: Okay, I need help to deicde, which of these two candidates the fourth hyper should be:
1. Gravitair Run (idea by Smartguy): TopMan runs so fast that he creates a tornado which lifts the opponent.
When TopMan stops running, the tornado disappears, and the opponent falls on the ground, creating a SBX-styled crack on the ground.
2. Super Sonic Run (idea by me): TopMan dashes into the opponent. When sucessfully hit, TopMan dashes at the opponent at Sonic speed and does a somersault at the end. Kinda like one of the hypers of Tao by KojiriBadness.

The template is a modified version of my megaman, its similar to why iceman only has 2 hypers in mvc2 and akuma has like 4.  every character is different the requirement is 3 I would put the limit at 5

Why dont you focus on completing your first character. Once you completed you first one then branch out to do many other. The first one is a learning process. The second is polish and from there you should have a set routine. Right now your having trouble with Topman. So wait then when finish analyze your work then refine it good sir.  ::salute::

In other news, I asked laspacho about the power sets, and he told me something new:
I'm not sure, since it is only 3 power sets don't worry about it, I'll have Acey figure it out when he does the power sets for the other characters.
So I guess, if I finish what I started, I should just give it Acey, so he can figure it out alone?
I really don't want to say good bye to Sonic Boom as a power set, even if I only did one frame for that attack...

Per Laspacho's request, I started to work on Topman to finish it.

Well while I am not a spriter, I came with a smoother animation for his medium punch:

And I've worked on the hard punch too (now its a 2 hit punch - the second one knocksdown the target)

Both attacks has a little dash to make the chain combos easier. The medium dashes a little while the hard one dashes more. Also its just a tiny detail, but I made Topman close his eyes a tad while punching, to give him more facial expression.

There are 3 variations of this move:
1- goes upward doing a tatsumaki move
2- Spins in place and its immune to projectiles
3- (this move) leaps toward the enemy.

I decided to change how the Magic Hat works. Now, Topman throws the hat upward diagonally and after reaching the desired height, the hats floats up and down for some time, then disappear. It works like an anti-aerial trap.

Small nitpick - remove black lines from inside of spikes. No style clashing otherwise, fits perfect :thumbsup:
Bliz have a nice idea there, though I don't think he'll be able to stand on it, more like spin on it and control direction of movement, if that isn't rendering other hypers less useful... Jumping off with extra hit sounds nice.

In fact, I've finished him today (its 03:48 am here).

To mimic one of his abilities from the original game, whenever he spins he is immune to projectiles (if the coder coded it right, for sure).
Special moves like hurricane kick and top spine are immune only to normal and special projectiles. But his hyper moves are totally immune to projectile attacks.

In fact, I was working on this until 6:20am because I've discovered a critical error in his SFF. The original creator made duplicate color entries on the palette, for whatever reason, and it turned in a huge mess. I had to convert ALL of his sprites again. After many bad words and strikes on the table, its finished. But you need to send those new lines to me :)

Anyway, I plan to release Top Man on the next days. I would not release it before, but then I remembered that there is a public version of this character already. I don't plan to release other characters that I work on, like Cutman or Crashman though.

There is an option for an EX move in which Top Man dashes through the opponent, spinning it and then turning it into the dizzy state. Of course it will cost power energy.
