How have you learned how to code a character?
« on: January 04, 2016, 11:22:45 PM »
I don't want to depend on other people anymore.  Spriters who don't know how to code know exactly what I mean.
Now if you could show me some sources that helped you learning how to code. Just the basic stuff for now. I really don't know a thing about this sport, so I'm gonna need to learn in baby steps first. Of course I'm gonna do some digging myself. Thank you!

Kung Fu Man is one of the best sources of knowledge to start in my opinion (along with the docs included with the MUGEN build). IIRC, I always used him as a base since my first steps code-wise.

Just start. There is honestly nothing special. You won't understand everything straight away and anyone who expects to is setting themselves up for disappointment. Edit some things other people have made for your own purposes (don't bother releasing, waste of time) and see if you can work stuff out.

From there, dive in and fail, or succeed. It doesn't actually matter which. Failure will make you better to some extent and as long as you know that you are GOING to f*** up it's not such a problem when you do, remember, it's just text, if you break it, wipe out whatever you did and try again. Honestly nothing special. But you'll never know unless you start (and this is basically all i did)
