My Take on Avatars

The poll will last for 3 days. Tell me where i really show my creativity in avatars. It will also allow me to find my weak and strong points when it comes to avatars. I appreciate your comments and feedback. Not too offensive. I owe to the deviant artist for inspriation.

As of now im really liking the edit of akuma u did. I would like to c that Shao Khan with out the white background.

Here a critical critique;

That Bison is raw. When it comes down to it the things u want pay attention to is the over all flow and quility.

I see u used smaller fonts on ur bison. Well with Text u want ur font to be one of two things.
                   An enhancer
                   Focal point that guilds the flow.

U got to think about ur color chose too. With all ur avatars except for the Virgal and Bison
U want ur font to pop but not to much so as to keep t focus on it alone.

Ur MK

shao Khan

has a good font chose that breathers MK but the color poor. Its i nice contrast to the gray but blends into the gray a lil to much as apposed to look as if its sitting on top. The images position is off too. The top image looks ackward cuz the text and banner is streaming acroos the face. The lower image is off center. Khan  is looking at u so by design defults he should be in the middle. Over all its nice and clean and only would need a lil tweeking in my oppinion.

Scorp

Its a nice start. over all i like it. The font chose feels MK. it just blends a lil to much in the top image so its getting lost. The onlying thing i would like to c  change is the border, red? idk. I would like to c more of the image behind the the sprite. I would say something about the quility of the images but i seen them images b4 and thats the style.  Now here something u were smart about. U use a sprite that was hand drawn or looks like it as apposed to the regular live action MK sprites. This was a look chose cuz the hand drawn goes better with it.

Bother Edit

This is great avatar the focuz is the sprite and the eye is drawn all over the rest. Nice job

Teeno

I have no commits really i just dont like it. But if u do thats what matter. and remember that over all its about what u like at the core of it all.

Virgal

I like itused sum element that dont really work to well. Really big font and really big sprite, U put them togther and got sum'n with nice flow. If any quilty and thats it.

Bison

Has great quilty and flow i cant say nothing more. Great Job

Bison is more of the style u c around imt and virgail is the stylized as wellas ur bother.

I like em all except for the Teeno.

Ur bother and Bison are the best.

Ur right Font is just as important as image chose. One thing to never do is stretch font. Ull distroy font this way and any one who specializes in font will c this as disrepectful. Font is an Art of its own.

I can give u font sites but unless u use Photo shop i cant tell u how to install em. U can always use the enter net to find how to install em.

hey man, glad to see you have your own thread. I'd say the Bison one is the best overall but it's the Michael one that really catches my eye, I like th eShao Kahn one too.

i agree with rage about the font thing, a little bit of an outline would sort that out though (depending on the colour choice for it).
As far as the fonts go, you can download them from the sites he mentioned and just drag and drop the files into your font fonlder on your C drive. It doesn't always work for me so I have an installer. AMP Font Viewer, it's a free program which lets you arrange your fonts into categories and allows you to view some text in a nmber of different fonts at once (so you can see what will work best).

I know you use Paint to make your avatars and I've never tried to do that myself. Like I said in our request thread though, you should be able to find a Photoshop torrent (I use photoshop 7) pretty easily. it would make it a lot easier to clean your images, like where the colour has 'bled' in the top triangle of your Shao Kahn.

I see you have been trying to create your own avatars, the need quite a bit of work, but your just starting out and so that's expected. I suggest you get Photoshop if you don't have it, and start learning the program. You can make much better avatars with various features of PS. Make sure to always take your time making these and experiment. If you are making non-animated avatars, make sure to save it as a PNG file type as that will be the best quality. I really can't tell you how yo make avatars as everyone has their own style and way of doing things. It's best to develop your own feel. Practice as much as you can and you will improve. I wasn't all that good when I first started and they were quite plain, but I took the time to practice and learn.

Oh and the Bison one is the best so far

Right heres my opinion. The best 2 I think so far are the vergil and bison. Always remember to try and find the best quality pics as possible. Another thing like rage pointed out make the font as appealing as possible without taking to much away from the whole avy. Dont go overboard tho(Dont feel bad I do this aswell) Also for different colors and stuff like that to use with your avy's boarder try Gradients on photoshop. If you use cs3 right click the template layer and go to layer styles, then gradient maps. You can also download custom gradient maps.

Also alittle tip with big images. If you use photoshop go ot edit(I think dont have it up in front of me) and go to resize image. then just downsize the image from there. It will keep about 99% of the over all quality but will just reduce to a more manageable size.

I understand what you guys are saying. i'm not use to photoshop. MSPaint is where i'm at. you wouldn't happen to know anyway websites that has different types of word art other than textspace?

if you guy agrees that bison is the best when, then that is where i need to aim my goal at.

i'm good with the pictures and all, just the font.

what would be an overall grade?
