Title: Forum issues..
Post by: Excursion on October 29, 2008, 02:33:50 PM
Something got corrupt between the mood tags and the shoutbox, so they have been removed until further notice as to not affect the forum's ongoings..

The spoiler tags for images seem to have been disabled, too.  :(

Good luck working it out.

I can not find the "Add Bookmark" button anywhere. You guys also removed the "Show recently unread topics" and the "Show topic you posted in" hyperlinks (or anything similar). There is also a missing date and time.

Old tabs. I need to get rid of them and since I am not in the mood for editing the php file for the forum, I am not going to do it just yet. I have bigger fish to fry at the moment. :-??

um... well I noticed a few things so far...

on the top between the home and help buttons... there's the 2 blank tabs... those should be gone...

Um... when viewing other people's shouts in the shoutbox (when I scroll down) .... it scrolls back up every like... 5 seconds... really annoying...

That's all for now... I only just got back yesterday... so.. maybe I'll find more later.. idk..

If you saw me in person, I'd look older too. Being just over 6 feet tall has its pros and cons. Heck I'm thinking on just getting a two door car after I feel my legs get stiff in four door cars(been taking driver's ed). :-??

On topic: So yeah a avatar that is 110px or less in width will do.

I liked it how before you could click on "view image" and it would show the image quoted. Is that how it will stay, or are you still working on that Ex?

All of the smilies I look at, my avatar and others are all moving for me. Please verify something like that by going to another forum and see if their animations work for you. Rebooting also helps. Lastly, try looking at the forum with a different browser. All that helps me in trying to get things fixed. Thanks.

I use both IE8 and Firefox3, The reason i use both is because there some programs that i use that wont open at all on Firefox or any other browser that is not IE. So until Firefox cant actually open everything that IE can, i will keep IE around.

Hmmmmm, yeah that is a serious issue right there. Must have been your host that was causing the problem, that is something to look into. It's better to own your own server or at least pay for a good host. The genuine hosts cost more per month, but at least they don't lie and oversell what they have and have much better security. But whatever the real problem was, I'm glad you got it fixed and are back up. You guys sure have been having a lot of issues lately, but your doing a fine job of keeping on top of them ;)

Host Gator is by far THE BEST host a paying customer can ask for. We may not have a dedicated server all to ourselves, but we have the freedom to do what we want with a great amount of space here. Hell, if we wanted, we could even do sub-sites like the MI crew does with their "MI-Space" but I am not online 8-9 hours a day to incorporate it that... besides, we would be accused of being just like them anyway. The point is, Host Gator is awesome.

We could run a wiki site but we would need people who can be online most of the time. Though EX runs this forum and it's his choice. If EX wants to run a wiki then I'd recommend mediawiki(same one that wikipedia uses).

Mediawiki? Is there a sample site out there? I would need to see how it would be beneficial and look up the the program to check out it's technical insides.
Title: Re: Forum issues..
Post by: Random Regular on November 23, 2008, 04:31:39 PM
As far as I know MediaWiki is a free software.
You can create your own Wikia (or something like that :P)
But dont let me confuse you Ex and go to this website:
www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki (http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki)
Here you can find more information, and download the newest version of it.
If you want an example of all those mediawiki sites just look what they did with mugen-wiki (you can look there if its still up)
But its up to you Ex, you decide what you want to do :)
Title: Re: Forum issues..
Post by: nick09 on November 23, 2008, 07:28:26 PM
If you did not know mediawiki was originally developed for wikipedia. I have used mediawiki before and its a really good piece of software for being free.

Yup, I'm encountering the same thing constantly....the forum is becoming unusable. I had to completely logout and log back in to get into this topic at all. That error comes up every time I try to do anything on here...it's frustrating.

I couldn't log in until I tried like 10 times refreshing the page

It took me 7 tries to post this message ........ EDIT make that 9 times

Here's what I kept getting

Everyone seems to be having trouble getting to the site today . They get an error like it doesn't exist . I can see it , so I know you're here still .  There hasn't been many people online at all today . Which is usually not the way it is at Infinity . More evidence that there is a problem .

Excursion see what you can do .

Wouldn't it have banned member or something by his name if he was banned ?

He's probably just having problems with this site like others are . Maybe even more , if he can't log in at all .

Well, there would be no need for those if you made your avatar less wide and cropped it. There are size restrictions here, the slider won't fix anything..you still won't see the whole avatar.

Thats a nice statment but unture.

If the sliders were reintroduced we could see many peps avatars in the full. Also using my avatar as an example is bad mine is that size for a reason. I make these things all day so dont tell me that. Some of the ones we do for peps that are regular still get parts cut off. Maybe not alot but still sum is not visable.

The sliders would be nice if they were reintroduced cuz the art here is one of thing the bring life, personality, favor to the forum. Not only that we work hard on these and it bites when it choped to pieces.
Title: Re: Forum issues..
Post by: Darkgargos on January 20, 2009, 08:32:21 PM
The avatar will still not fully show, you will need to use those sliders to move it back and forth, it's best to try to make avis to the confines of the width restrictions of the forum so they don't get cut off. Not that I'm telling you to not to use that avi or make them like that..just putting the facts out there.

The whole reason I took the sliders off was because of the many many avatars I saw that were over-sized. I disliked the way the slider bar looked in each thread. Your best bet is to stay within the pixel height and width limit. It isn't hard to do. People do not need extravagantly XL avatars to be noticed around here. The sliders are not coming back.

ur opionion is ur's but read b4 u post. I stated aleady that mine is over size and i did it on perpous (cant spell) so y are u useing mine in ur example. Mine would still probably be cut off if they were back. I posted this cuz i seen normal sized shields or even ur avatar being cut off.

Another alternative could be to just widen the left side of posts (where the avys are)... so, there will be barely any need for sliders anyways. This would be good because the text space is big enough... it CAN be shortened in width...

Why do you think we need oversized avatars? We don't need super huge avatars. I think our current restricted sized avi's are just fine.

Here is a solution.

The next solution is to get a larger monitor with a larger resolution than the current one you have.

I do not like that it shows our operating systems & browsers . If someone did want to hack us , it would make it easier knowing up frony what we are using .

To answer Mew . I think it's because some of us use different comps . If I use my home comp I have one operating system , my work comp has another , & my laptop I use something else . So I think it's hard to pinpoint me . There fore it may not show my info .

EDIT D*mn it , now it's showing mine too .  :-&

I wouldn't worry about a hack like that here DT. Also, The post bars are something I added to separate the posts a bit. I think they are a tad bit easier on the eyes. Lastly, only posts made after I installed that mod will show what operating system and OS you are using... hence why the majority of the posts are blank.

EDIT: Yes, I am using Windows 7. I think I am the only one.  :-??

A local radio station has this computer guru on it & he was talking about it , probably  about 2 weeks ago . So I went & downloaded it . I have to agree 100% , Windows 7 is much better than vista . That was just an experiment gone bad .

I have tried Windows 7. I like it a little bit but I just don't like the new themes and I now usually change the theme to the classic theme as its the most minimalistic theme in windows and for the fact I grew up with Windows 98. The theme is just bloated to me with the "new features" and such.

What do you use to sprite with ?

I use Adobe photoshop & when I sprite on Vista it's tough . Vista kind of takes over & wants to do some weird things to the pcx files . It really gets on my nerves .  ~X(

Yeah I have photoshop on 98 , Xp , 2000 professional , Vista .

I have it on all my computers at home & at work .

But when it's on vista it does strange things with PCX files because of the operating system taking over .

Your new flash banner is way too wide, atleast for my standard definition monitor

heres a pic

See how far away from the rest of the board it goes for me?
I dont know if thats because I have a standard def monitor and not one of those expencive new wide screen ones (frankly i got this one from someone who was going to throw it away)

Whats most annoying is all that extra stuff is wasted space and its not aesthetically pleasing to have that extra chunk hanging off the edge.

Same Here

Last night the forum was chaos . Parse errors & all that . Everything was huge & it looked terrible .

I know you were working last night on it . Today everything is great & the forum seems to even load a lot faster now

For people with a resolution below 1358 Width (that's the width of the SWF logo) they will have that issue. I am looking into a way to script it so that it resizes depending on your screens resolution.

You must have been refreshing as I was fixing up the forum. What the heck is this?  /:O

For those that cannot see the banner (kpt25..) this is what it looks like:

If you can see that, then you have the correct plug in installed in your browser.

Waaaaaaaay off topic here ...

This thread is actually for forum problems . A parse error where you can't get to a thread is a problem . If you are browsing the website & you are getting internal errors , that's a problem .

The fact that you think avatar spaces should be bigger is not a forum problem .  So please lets just drop this discussion from this section . I commented just to give you an explanation to your question . I didn't mean for this to turn into a debate or a discussion about it in this thread . Excursion uses this thread to see things that are happening & to take care of the as quickly & efficiently ar possible . Cluttering up this thread with this is a bad idea . As it will distract from real forum issues .

If you would like to talk about how big the avatar space should be with other members . Please make a discussion thread about it in General Discussion or even the sig & avatar section would be better .

Thanx

I'm testing out Safari this week, their biggest problem so far is processing animated gif files as well as functionality with their sleek "top sites" menu. It was a pain to install the plugins too because you have to figure out how to install it from your Safari download manager even though you have to close Safari to install the plugin.

Hey Ex,the polls are not working *points at the sprite of the week contest*

Sending PMs to DARKTALBAIN is a good alternative to that. ;)

No voting PM's to DT . My PMs box is exploding now lol

Usually we have about 60 voters per week . Along with the PM's I get normally about forum things , Wolvenom , & just chit chat . I can't get any more PM's lol

I'm sure Ex will fix this issue ..My youtube vids still are not working .

Fixed the Youtube video button issue, although you could just post the whole link in a post and it will embed automatically. Is the poll issue fixed for you now?

You know we have a button for that right? Use the Flash button when you reply:

and you will get this tag:

You will need to adjust the 200,200 default properties of the flash to whatever your flash properties are. In this case, our forum banner is 800,125 and then put the link to your .swf file between the brackets like a url or img file:

press preview to make sure it's correct, if so, then post it and it will display as you previewed it.

That's because you weren't linking DIRECTLY to the file. You either need to get server space somewhere you can directly upload a file and direct link to it, or find a hosting site that will do the same thing for free. This site, http://www.fhqhosting.com/ (http://www.fhqhosting.com/) will do that for .swf files. I uploaded that .swf file you were trying to link to and fixed your post with a link to it.

No where as cool as my forum though ;*)) Actually with some work, it could have been even nicer, but it just didn't fit IMT. The whole red and gray is more of IMT's theme colors. Their forum should have it's own feel.
Title: Re: Forum issues..
Post by: Rage on September 23, 2009, 10:45:09 PM
yeah the red and gray is classic IMT but thats just that its just a set of colors. That doesnt mean it fit it its just what people are used to seeing when they visit. Rage like the classic look but  im kind of hooked on the black.

As for the black Rage got to give it to who ever came up with the design cuz by far that was the best black on black formula Rage seen by far. When IMT does something they allways bring it and Kick @$$ at doing it.

Well Rage guess this change is final for they wouldnt change it back Rage thinks if it wasnt met with so much negative responces.

Classic IMT it is. What ever Rage still love this place

46%??I don't like that number at all,how do i make it bigger!!! ??? (j/k Ex)

It works within a 7 day (week) period and with a max of 50 posts per week. (50 posts in a week = 100%, 25 in a 7 that same 7 day period = 50%, etc.) I can change those values, but those seemed reasonable.

Hmmm, interesting feature.....I'm already at 100% ;*))

But I feel it takes up unnecessary space and quite frankly is sort of an eye sore. It just seems like a very unnecessary feature that calls attention to peoples activity and could promote spamming in order to fill it up. I feel it's best to keep our profiles clean of such clutter. Please don't take offense to this, just giving my opinion on the matter is all.

No offense taken. I agree actually. The avatar space is a canvas and should remain clutter free. Like I said, it's just a temporary feature that I will remove sooner than later. I wanted to see what it could do for you, the Infinity members and if it would serve any useful purpose.

If you haven't noticed, I've also added a drop down for thread and post pages. No longer do you have to click through several pages of a very large thread to get to the page you need to get to. Now you can go right to that page. Also, I am sure no one noticed, but I temporarily added the Arcade modification with a slew of flash arcade games. The link is in the toolbar at the top of the forum. Scar and I have been having back and forth battles at Donkey Kong to claim the Champ title ;) which I currently own for the time being. Also, if a user is offline, his avatar (if he/she has one) will display as semi transparent (see through.)

That I understand, you are just testing it out and see what people think. It can be fun to test out new features. But yeah, I don't see it as very useful to be honest...just breaks up the avatar space and makes it look less clean and nice.

you'd think it'd be a lil' demeaning to those with a life, are admin, creators, contributors or whatever. point being not everyone can contend to be 100% whether it be due to life, work, mugen, other forums, lack of net access, etc., etc.

Earlyer today i was playing Solitaire, and it was so big i had to scroll out on my browser to 40% view, and then after going though the stack of cards once, my computer shut down because my cpu overheated.

Then you must be using an old 286, or Your browser is an unoptimized jumbled up mess. Are You using and experimental or nightly build of your browser?

A web application would not max out a CPU no matter what. Only explanation other then above is that you had been attacked by a virus.

EDIT : IE explains it all. IE = Unoptimized, jumbled up mess.

Its a celleron d 356 processor

And its the latest version of IE, ive never had that kind of problem before.

I'll have to run a scan.
Title: Re: Forum issues..
Post by: xPreatorianx on September 26, 2009, 11:59:59 PM
Thats a dated processor but still that should not have happened. Its got more then enough power behind it to stand up to any web based application/game. Unless ofcourse you get into stuff like Quake live then it may struggle a tiny bit. But im not familiar with Quake live so I could be wrong.

Point being something else under the hood made that happen. Give me a PM and tell me exactly what you were doing at the time as well as number of programs running(to the best of your knowledge.) and other stuff like that. Also your full system specs, and try and find a program that will put your whole computer under load and give me the Temp output for it.

Thats if you need anymore help.

But do I virus/spyware scan first.

EDIT : Also Vista is horrible. I say that with confidence because of Windows 7. So maybe just maybe vista had something going wrong under the hood and it maxed out your resources.

I must admit that this arcade section is a neat little diversion. By the way, I just beat G Lux's high score on Breakout. :P

You guys check now. Other's in your groups can see the arcade. I have Adobe Flash Player 10 and it works. If you have Firefox, make sure you install the flash plug in for Firefox. Also, if you still cannot see it, try it in a different browser, then report back. Thanks.

So was I, its probably because Ex has been editing the forum so much. So its probably nothing to worry about. usually when an admin edits source files for SMF it tends to mess things up for a short time if they mess up alittle on the syntax of PHP.

I think the shoutbox was causing errors on the forum. It is better to have a forum that you could actually post at then to have the shoutbox.

If I know Excursion, there is a possibility the shoutbox could be back one day if it is functioning better.

I'm not. I have looked into it and you should have that arrow. What resolution are you running? I will try to change mine to yours to see if that makes a difference. Is shinra having that same issue? That will tell me if it's your tag or not causing that issue.

Title: Re: Forum issues..
Post by: Rage on December 13, 2009, 03:27:40 PM
yeah removing that ability is crude. I mean sometimes projects change sometime its good to be able to change the name instead of creating a new thread. With the creation of a new thread one is force to copy any remnants of the former project and  have them moved (retyped, ported, uploaded) on into the project after the change or post links to other threads on the forum for people to get the information they seek. So ether way its a pain. and in way way a waste of space when thing could easily be condensed.

in the recent posts collection, it shows all members as joining the forum Dec 1969

I can't duplicate that. Need more info please.

This has started rather recently for me, but I'm getting more "500 error" messages when I'm logging in or when I'm trying to access a thread.  I'll post a picture the next time it happens.

I told Excursion already, but I kept getting the server error w/e... like.. a few days ago.. I think Tuesday or Wednesday.

Edit: Just got that error again... \-/o

I was working on the forum to fix that issue. Should be gone now.

What are you talking about?
Instead of just claming staff are breaking their own rules, can you post some links or screen shots that prove this?

the most recent example was "sasuke-kun" in the  t shirt thread. the thread was promptly cleaned by atice. i'm sure you may see the topic posts in the graveyard. when i raised this concern in that thread, the thread was cleaned.

so i again ask,  :-?? what's the deal

i will appreciate the solving of this crisis as it affects this very otherwise sexy forum.

You seems to have somekind of grudge against me for something very childish and the rest of the staff can see it by themselves.

Yet I still won't fall for it if your intentions are to provoke me...
I have better things to attent in my own life.

i have no grudge against you  :DxDie

in fact i have no idea who you are, aside from your being an  imt g mod. i was just pointing out you broke the rules bro, and i would have done so no matter who you were :/

see there, you call me "very childish", that's not sexxxy, that's unkind flaming!

And what can I do if that's the way you are acting?

The rules you are trying to put on me are for posts like these:
Member A says: Hello everyone.
Member B says: F*** you.

They are to avoid fights with strong languaje between members or to avoid people to insult other members.

They weren't made so people couldn't have free expression on what they think or feel about something.

And that's what I did that time...
I said what I had in mind in that moment about people that was saying they would look retarded with the IMT Shirt among other bad things about it.

I never said "f*** the haters" or something like "get the f*** out of here if you don't like the site"

I just said that I don't understand why they keep coming to a place that they seems to hate.

You can freely express yourself about something without using strong languaje.

Post by: The Hulk Hogan on May 03, 2010, 11:09:40 PM
of course i don't have the posts in front of me, i do believe no one swore, at least no one you directed your posts at. further more they made it clear that the shirt could've been improved and were not flaming any single person.

so
"Member A says: Hello everyone.
Member B says: F*** you."

is moot.

you also called them idiots if i recall correctly.

sorry to make an issue out of this, d00der, but i mean, the rules are right there
<---------------------next to every post, being mean doesn't solve the issue ^:)^

Hollywood Hogan.
I see that you are more fragile than a window's glass (I bet that you'll use this comment against me later but I really need to let that out) if you see my way to think or to express about things that bad.

I really tried to explain that rule to you the best I could but I see I'm just wasting my time and since I see this is going nowhere, I'll let the admins have the last word about it so...
Have a good night.

I found part of that topic in the dump section for everyone to see who is being rude with an admin and another person that spoke with freedom but without saying anything that, using strong languaje or insulting other members:

http://www.infinitymugenteam.com/Forum_345/index.php?topic=29522.0 (http://www.infinitymugenteam.com/Forum_345/index.php?topic=29522.0)

Maybe Attice may know where the rest of this topic is since I could only find this part.

We dont even need the other parts

I will never understand the haters we have here...

If you guys hate this site that much...
What on Earth are you still doing here if this isn't the only Mugen Community on the net?

Later on in that post, this is what Hollywood had reported as flaming.

Im sorry Hollywood but I see no flaming in this statement. Its perfectly resionable to ask why someone is here if they hate it so much.
I think you need to re-read the rules, and perhaps come to understand them better, before you accuse the staff of breaking their own rules.

my apologies to sasuke kun then. personally i've seen people banned here for much less, and the reason was "flaming", so logically i assumed this was flaming too. it's cool though.
OK...

it's cool i forgive you for calling me as fragile as a window pane :'(
Title: Re: Forum issues..

It's OK...
I'll also retract my word about the fragile than a window's glass comment.

But I must also say that rules aren't exactly that hard...

In this site, a lot of people get a lot of chances to avoid ban for doing things that maybe in other sites you could get an instant ban for just not agree with a mod or admin.

And here, you can be in the same terms or in disagreement with other members (Even mods or admins) as long as you keep respect.
