Download Mugen -> Hi-Res WinMugen (Select Screen Only)
A hack done by us of the high-res mugen. Try it in your default mugen folder and you should like the results. The continue screen is still not corrected, I haven't found the bit to change that.
Included is the system.def from the high-res mugen if you use the default screenpack, so that you'll at least not have to work too hard.
Don't direct link to it from elsewhere. Which pretty much equates to please don't report it elsewhere. Given it isn't fully finished, gonna ask nicely for you not to host it: I will on RS once the FTP is working again for the site. This link will be dead by then anyway and I'll redirect you there.
Something for a few of the mugen community's enemies to think about before they prod us so hard...pretty sure those I mean that are reading this will get my point. After the fun RS hacking even and previous negotiation failure this just about stayed to myself. The fact I think that the actually good people in the community deserve a little extra despite all the bad and the greedy overrode that decision though.
Enjoy. Just slip it into your default mugen folder like I said, and you should see what you have pretty quickly enough.
G Lux: Link Updated.

nice, wait RS was hacked?
-
Yeah. You didn't see that topic in the forum about a trojan virus alert Demon?
Someone not only tried deleting the whole site, but infected several pages, mostly index.htm pages, with an iframe that linked to a page that set off a trojan horse alert.

Oh I saw that, I didn't think it was THAT serious though. Why do people love making virus' to infect webpages?
anyway, cool hack KFM ;D
BTW, welcome to the new infinity :)

Guys could we focus on the release and not some basement based terrorist wannabe?

lol sry
EDIT: I haven't downloaded hi-res until now, so correct me if I'm wrong, I tried all the stages and they end up looking like this (with the characters "up in the air"):
Is this a bug or is this how they are supposed to look?
-
So for an frequently absent to MUGEN for long whiles noob like me, what exactly does this do?
-
Okay because there's been some confusion, I fixed the thread title, and to explain, this gives you a high-res select screen...but you can use normal resolution stages with it perfectly fine.
-
cool, good job KFM and thnx for the tip ;D

Thanks a bunch, this is what I've been wanting since hi-res mugen hack came out.
-
Oh sweet! My select screen was getting awfully cramped before...
Thanks! :D

what is this? i don't get it.

what is this? i don't get it.
in simple words, it gives you more room on your select screen, but you have to set double res in your mugen.cfg

just put mugen-hiselect.exe in your mugen folder where your WINMUGEN.exe is, doesn't matter if your current mugen is hi-res or low-res.

It just distorted my select screen.
I'm not sure if that's the purpose of it. Wait, what do I need my doubleres at? I have mine set to be
doubleres=4...

that's how it's suppose to be, cause your current select screen is low-res, make it hi-res by editing your system.def , not the system.def that came in the zip.
-
Use it only with normal mugen. This won't work with high-res stages at all unlike the other one (sorry, without adding a trigger to the coding which involves decompiling the EXE, there's no way to fix that so it can use both stages).

I'm not using the system.def that came with the zip. But how am I supposed to edit my system? Do I just add some codes at the top or the bottom of it? I'm confused.

What exactly do I edit in my system.def? Do I make the icons bigger?

:o That's worse then mine.

Me thinks you have to double the image size of all the select screen sprites. Then edit the system.def files collumns, cell size, etc.

you have to fix stuff like that, i hope that helps. it takes some work to make your mugen hi-res. :-\

Thank's KFM, this will be a big help to my selectscreen. With the other Hi-res mugen I couldn't use my normal stages so this is great, all I needed was a Hi-res selectscreen anyway so this is perfect ;D
-
Works great.
Looks great.
Thanks man.
:) :) :)

as always thankyou for your contrubution this is cool trying to figure how to make it work for my hi-res though even thought thats not what its designed for but thanks again your contributions are steady, ready and much appreciated
-
In arcade mode, continue screen doesn't display 100% correctly.
The stage in the background is similar to a standard res stage being displayed in hi-res mugen.
But this only happens on the continue screen.
(and who gives a crap about the continue screen anyway)
Kinda neat In a way, looks like the player has been removed from the battle until they decide weather or not to continue.
Thanks again.

Don't direct link to it from elsewhere. Which pretty much equates to please don't report it elsewhere. Given it isn't fully finished, gonna ask nicely for you not to host it
I did sorta announce it as far as it being a substitute to use RedNavis recent creation since many cannot use the latest Hi-Res winmugen for it.
No direct links like you said and its not hosted anywhere else like you asked, but as far s the above, I am just checking if thats ok. If not then ill correct everything.

@fooloof: Yeah, that's a none bug.
@SyN: Not a problem. Just if it gets updated remember to give your folks a shout regarding it so they can get the latest version.
-
Gotcha, and thanks.
-
This is the coolest thing since sliced cheese. Thank for all of the hard work that went into figureing out the high res.
-
I like the sound of it! I'm gonna give a try real soon. Thanks for the announcement, KFM :)
-
i just tested it on my BrokenMugen screenpack and it messed up my select screen but it looks so cool that i'll modify it to fir the screen
any tips for doing that?
-
This High-res select is really cool it looks all clear and everything. I like it. :)
-
...i have problems configuring cursors...well as i understood i can edit cell size and everything that is connected with it, but can i really edit CURSOR so that they'd fit my current cell size ? THAT is a question...for example i want my character selection portraits to be VERY BIG, but i also want my cursor to fit it when i'm selecting a character...what should i edit then... ???
-
May have found a slight bug with the Hi-res select.
After losing in arcade mode, when I choose "yes" to continue, all I see is a black screen.
Instead of the player select screen.
I know that I am on the player select screen because I can still hear the cursor movement sound.
Also when I press a button I get the same character I was using.
(makes sense, that's where the cursor should be after choosing yes at the continue screen).
And if I move one to the right, I get the character the was just to the right of the character I was using.
So I know I am on the player select screen, but all I see is black.
Anybody else have this problem?
:-??

That exists in the other hi-res mugen hack too fooloof...so far no fix has been found yet
-
Boooo.
Oh well, thanks for the info man.

Just in case anyone is still on the fence about giving this a try, I wanted to add some info that I haven't really seen pointed out yet. This hack actually lets you take advantage of Hi-Res characters, lifebars, and fight FX in addition to the Select Screen!
Here's a shot using my regular "winmugen.exe":
Now here's the same fight using "mugen-hiselect.exe":
Such a world of difference!
-
ummm you did not go into the mugen.cfg file in notepad and change the DoubleRes = 0(maybe different) to DoubleRes = 4.....
try that with the mugen.exe......

problem with =4 is guilty gear power stone and melty blood chars look great but the rest of your chars look really horrible like ken really looks pixelated

Yes I have. I've tried it till I turned blue and passed out from frustration. No matter what I set my DoubleRes value to, it always comes out looking like the first screen (I'm using the "No Limit WinMugen" patch, if that makes a difference). And I didn't change the DoubleRes setting between running the two exe's - it's the same cfg file (set at DoubleRes=2 ATM, I believe).
There are other features with the old exe that I haven't been able to get to work properly, either. So maybe I've just been running a faulty Mugen version all this time? Or an older version that doesn't support DoubleRes=4? (It's not listed as an option in the cfg).
Thanks for trying to assist, in any event.

umm 4 is not listed but it works.i think all that blue is from your monter's bit level.
right click and go to properties.and go to settings. try 16 bit if its 32 bit but if its 16 bit try 32 bit.

Well, this new hacked exe runs and displays better than my original, so I don't need to monkey with settings (basically this version fixed my problems without having to change anything). Thanks for the tips, though!
