Nightcrawler 2.5 Remix
« on: June 27, 2020, 02:18:32 PM »
Nightcrawler is getting an update! This is much closer to how I originally imagined Nightcrawler.
New face, touched up sprites, fixed height issues with legs.
Adding new specials and a new hyper.

Wow, you're really back in MUGEN with Nightcrawler and Dazzler. What brings you back?

Nightcrawler was always one of my favorites - teleporting is just so much fun!

The Pandemic has me spending a lot of time at home. I thought it would be great to come back and finish some things that never got around to. It's rewarding creatively and nostalgia-wise.

Hi Twin,

Awesome progress! You improved quite a lot and the sprites look soo faithful to X:CoTA & MvC :)
I got few comments/questions after checking the cool screenshots and gif:

1) Have you considered/used Curfew and Goat from the Asura games?
2) Perhaps add a little bit more movement to the legs in the stance? (ex. https://www.deviantart.com/jadencorsair/art/Spiderman-New-Static-Stance-102968826)
3) What do you think about inserting "BAMF" onomatopeia (random location) and an additional layered smoke effect (smaller scale, in front of the character) to assist visuals?
4) Run will be Felicia-style or Chamat's Spidey? (https://www.deviantart.com/luischamat/art/MvC-Spiderman-Run-660877978)
5) Dash back like Vega(claw)?

Hi guys.

For clarity, this remix is not starting from scratch, but an update on his previous sprites. I've already completed the update to the sprites and added his new moves. It's funny how some minor tweaks can really improve the presentation of a character!
But it's still early. I'm open to making some changes.

I did think about animating his legs where he shifts his weight back and forth, but I did that with Dazzler already and felt strange doing the same with NC.

Yes, actually Nightcrawler is using a forward dash that is like Felicia's from Darkstalkers.
I'll have to take a look at Vega's back dash, because that sounds like a neat idea.

I'm not sure about the effects for Bamfing. That's something for me to think about. I like the idea of adding depth to the effect. I just don't know where to look for smoke effects that would feel like Capcom. I actually would prefer for the smoke effect to be smaller and less intrusive with rest of what's going on in the screen. Let me know if you have any smoke examples. Thanks.

I am truly amazed at these two results Dazzler and NC! Very good! I love Capcom Style and you are making two really interesting characters. Will you do the same with Professor X?

Its up to you of course, but the idea of a "BAMF!" text appearing with the teleport would be cool.  I know you can't easily replicate that sound and its mostly just a comic reference, but its been his signature sound effect since practically when he was created.

But then again, Wolverine's "Snikt" has never been replicated in games, so I understand why it wouldn't make much sense.

Whatever the play, Nightcrawler will likely remain a personal fav of mine!

P.S.  have you ever thought of an Azazel version?

The onomatopeia was my favorite part in Punisher (CPS1)  :cool

@alex87 If I have time and don't get burnt out, I'd like to update Xavier. He'd probably be the more radically changed character than NC.

@DeleFresh No plans to do Azazel. Character never interested me. I've always loved Nightcrawler for his cool design, fun powers and his amazing personality.

Nicely done Twin, i'd love to make more a guests-in-background for your stages (even tho i'm retired)

I forgot to mention that i'm glad i sent my Emma's cloned daughters [on right side] to your message for X-Mansion stage "Riot at the School", i would've been missed an opportunity.

Made a new back dash this evening! Thanks to Navs for the idea.

@jax123 If you have any ideas for background characters, send me a PM. I'm thinking of making a 90's version of the stage in addition to the stage I have now.

Dude... I am speechless... that looks amazing.
Do you have any tips for working with Vega/Claw? I like his moves for more Cap/Cable characters, but resizing him is a torture

Nothing substantial I can think of, in terms of tips. Vega's body is quite oddly shaped and difficult to use on other characters. I think in my case, there wasn't a whole lot to resize, just some arms needed to be made less muscular. Usually when I need to resize, I'm usually making the body smaller. I'm not sure about cap or cable sizes. When I resize, I just erase or select small parts of the body and move around as needed and hope I don't mess up the anatomy originally drawn. ha

The Amazing Nightcrawler!
It seems that the character is going to have a very important quality jump compared to the previous version.
