I decided to open a topic exclusively for tips for bosses that can be converted to the Robot Master Mayhem project, so we do not mix with other characters. Personally, I really LOVE programming boss-type characters because I have more freedom to create, require less work and time (I've already been able to do such a character in 1 hour only) and it's funny.
===| HOW IT WILL WORK? |===
- Unless another programmer shows interest in programming, I'll be responsible for the boss's programming.
- Not all ideas will be converted. It depends a lot on my free time (which is scarce).
- The main focus is the classic series, but suggestions from other series will be accepted
- Ideas will be evaluated following the criteria of: Possibility of conversion (not everything that works in the original game, works on this project), Difficulty, Uniqueness (what the boss could bring different from the project) and Creativity.
- Here, the concept of "boss" are non-controllable characters, usually large on the screen, that we face in the final stages of the games. Then, characters such as "Robot Masters / Reploids, etc. that can be controlled are deleted. Sub-bosses may be accepted.
- The final word on whether or not the character enters the project is from Laspacho, since he is the leader of the project. But I intend to use the RMM template, them the conversion to the project becomes easier, so if the character is not accepted for the project, I can still program it as a separate character for Mugen.

I'd suggest Lumine, the end boss of MMX8, but I don't know how much work that would take.

As far as this topic is concerned, we're looking mostly into midbosses, first stage bosses and fortress bosses that aren't humanoid (thus would be unplayable).

For sure it's a lot of work. As I said, I won't go coding everything, just the ones I think its cool and have interest into (as I am doing with some not yet revailed bosses). But there are other coders which could have interest.
And this works as a idea vault for me, personally.

Maybe the octopus boss from Sheep Man's stage in MM10. The problem I see though, is not enough attack ideas. It does about two things, Shoot electricity and spawn enemies.

Gamma would be great as a Apocalypse-style boss.
We could have the Copy Robot/Holograph Megamans as a Strength Training style boss as well.

Yes, I think we could stick to MM2 weapons. Specially when I had plans for a "Copy Robot" which could use any weapon:

Maybe an upgraded version on a character we already sprited? Like similar to how Guts Man has a Guts Dozer? If we're going to go with this idea, I'd say Tengu Man or Snake Man would both be great ideas to make. Maybe a giant Snake Bot based on the mini-boss from Megaman 3 (No need to post a pic because I'm sure everyone knows what that looks like)
Or if we're talking a cool boss, I think a Dr. Wily/Light based off Street Fighter will be so, so cool. Look at this to see how cool it would be.

I just had a thought. All of the Dark Men from Mega Man 5. Each one is unique in their own way. Dark Man 1 is a tank. Dark Man 2 is generates electromagnetic barriers around himself. Dark Man 3 is the sniper. Dark Man 4 is essentially the leader of them all.

Dark Man #2 is fully sprited already and will be playable. I made it so the other Darkmen will be hyper moves for him.

I was watching some Mega Man videos yesterday and I found something which could fit the game: Shadow Devil

If we are going to have X and Zero in the game on the future, we could put him too.

But I had one idea: we could re-use Yellow Devil main sprites, changing to dark grey and only using some extra sprites, like his eyes (which is a separated entity), and some blobs. Since he doesn't walk, it won't require too much work - its more a matter of removing the eye from Yellow Devil sprites. Even the Willy Machine are already there.
For that fight, I would disale the time limit, because it can last forever in some cases.
What do you guys think about it?

I like Yellow Devil, and Shadow Devil too if we could merge them... What do you think of making 2 stages with different movesets(some same moves, like ones both versions have, some different)?

Ah no, it would be an herculean task. And this would make the fight against him very hard.
I do prefer separated versions. Althought I don't know if people would have patience to fight him in 2 rounds, specially thank to its annoying music.

I see, well, for X-Pansion we need X boss and we can repurpose Yellow one into Shadow one. For moves it could be amalgamation as he was everywhere, classic, x, zero series, would be a nice nod to them :)

I love the idea of doing Shadow Devil. As a separate boss.
We also have my Vile in the Mech that could be coded. I'm more thinking a playable boss with him though. (Think Mech Zangief as a possible play style.)
I also ripped all the voice work from Megaman X on the PSP years ago. So I have all the dialog between Vile and X, ect.

Twin Devil is easier said than done. it would require a lot of work to make those color transformations.
Maybe it would be too much to have Shadow Devil on a 2 round battle. But to make it inside Yellow Devil would be very time consuming.

Nah that doesn't quite match what we are doing. I'd just make my own Vile using my own current design.

Thats easy, in round one Yellow would die like usual. After Exploding he'd melt into the floor and vanish like normal but leave the eye behind. In round two the eye would be there and it would explode, transform, etc. and you see the shadow eye. then the puddles would reform as black before combining.
No need to mix the characters, colors.

We already have have sprites ready for a few bosses (Doc Robot, Weapons Archive, Bliking and Bee Blader). I'd be up for making more bosses in the future, one thing I'd like to see is a giant background boss, something we have many options to pick from.

That is the easy part :) I will save this idea for later. If I find some free time, I will play with it a bit.
Doc Robot, Weapons Archive, Bliking and Bee Blader
All those are good options. Bliking seams cool, but would require some modifications in all characters to make it work (its on my plans to include a file for stage interaction in all character someday). Bee Blade is someone some people already told me about.
Talking about giant bosses, I like Rangda Bangda. And Mecha Dragoon too, but its another case where stage interaction is needed.
Oh, and that giant pumpkin too!

Yes I'm talking about the Power battle sprite size of the PumpKing. I used mugen to double the power battle sprite size in the cns file.

How many sprites are there, not that much, right? Probably I'll be able to resize them to 2x soon, if we'll agree to use him in game. Just not today, I have a massive headache... :|
As for Micro Devil, hell, he can be playable character! Never thought of that before, but looking at him like that made me think he could be unique and interesting with moves similar to big ones...
