You say that because from MK4 on, the characters just ended up being thrown at the frachise, without any actual reason. They just appeared out of nowhere, lots and lots of new guys and no one knew crap about them. Now with a story mode, we may learn something about them.

MK4 onwards did have some cool characters but they weren't fleshed out enough or used enough.
A lot of pre MK4 characters weren't that great, it's only because of both nostalgia and them being in every game that they are well liked

Loved MK9, looking forward to this. Concerned slightly about the rumoured large amount of new characters. While new blood is good it's often the classics that draw people in. I'm fearful my two Edenian queens won't be there (Sindel and Kitana)

I also hope Skarlet is given more importance now. She already debuted as a minor DLC char, now she could get her spot in the story.

Uhm...guys. You all forgot that only one MK4-only character will reappear in MKX. The rest will be MK5-9.
There even will be characters from Deadly Alliance and Deception in MKX.
