Mugen bets on Twitch
« on: July 08, 2013, 11:27:51 PM »
Apparently a group of guys are on Twitch watching random mugen battles and betting on the winner through their website. It's on the channel Saltybets if anyone is down for a quick laugh.

They're pausing at the beginning of each match while people place bets.

This is an interesting turn of events.

So this apparently has blown up. Do they credit the creators at all or say where you can dl anything?

No credit is given, yet none is taken either. As far as I've seen in the stream chat, no one has linked to were you can DL any character or even the MUGEN program itself. I may be wrong since I've watched the stream about 4 times.
Didn't realize how broken a lot characters really were. Makes me sad to see good character lose to broken ones. DBZ characters are the worst too... One kamehameha wave kills when the other moves are garbage...wheres the balance in that?
Also there has been discussion of a AI maker who was credited by streamers who had passed. So I think if any credit is taken some of the viewers would at least stand up and call on it.

When I first found these streams I would log in and mention who I am and what I do. Now when I show up the broadcaster usually points out that I'm there and that I made this or that. They have been really cool about it.

Also I've noticed that our downloads have increased since Mugen got it's own presence on Twitch so people are leaving those streams and searching for the content they like. I see it as just another form of advertising.

It's funny to see "Always bet on DBZ" enter the pantheon of FG talk as much as "Curleh Mustash" or "Salty".

Didn't realize how broken a lot characters really were.

Which is why Mugen was always the joke of the Fighting Game Community; broken stuff all over the place. I don't mind though because I know I make quality stuff. I think a middle ground is being reached now where people know there is good stuff out there.

I've heard about this on some streams I've been watching on Twitch, pretty crazy that they're betting, though if it's not real money I guess that'd make more sense considering there would be crazy balance issues depending on what they would be using. :P Although I did hear that someone actually bet real money on some matches, so I dunno. Still neat though.

What would be hilarious, is if someone made a lifebar that instead of saying "K.O." in text, it would say "Bodied".  and instead of "Time  Over" or Time Up", it would say "Time Scam".

I could clearly see someone doing this, and it ends up on Saltybet.

Yeah, this is the reason that MFG made a starter pack, with some hand picked quality chars and stages only, so people can have a great start. I think its a great idea.

Well, I guess this gives me an incentive on doing something more than stages. Only if my time permits me to do so.

Hell yeah it is. lol.  That's one of the main reasons I drop in for this stream sometimes.  I also love it when there's a character with AI that activates during betting time, like the Nicktoons character.  Arnold throwing gum at the other character before the match begins is just too hilarious.

Despite I'm in the process of making updates & changes to the Harbor court stage that I released a few days ago, I got in contact with the guy running SaltyBet. He found out I was a stage maker, and wanted to know if a stage that would represent SaltyBet Casino could be done. At least a stage where it looks like they are in a casino of some sort. With all the lingo & in-jokes that get used.

And when I thought of the game that could make it happen, I thought of "Ring of Destruction: Slam Masters 2".

This is what I built up to now, as requested.

All that is missing, is an animated crowd, ref & cameramen. So I can get it up. It will be a public release, but it is also a requested release. Doing this has also given me ideas on how to better update the harbor court stage as well.

DarkValentine, you have to add Darude - Sandstorm to the list of lingo. This s everyone's answer to whenever someone asked about the music.

I can add it in the area of the Mexican flag at the top. Those are the only spots not taken. I've got everything else XD. I'm also using music from Hyper SF2 Anniversary Edition. It's a casino stage, so you can guess who's music will play. not sure if I should use arranged or Original

you need something that says mexibeamed to id also reccomend changing where it  says "welcome to the salt mines add a door or cave or something instead of the slot machine. as for darude that is not a joke salty endorses and the mods are trying to get that joke spam banned. soooo I don't reccomend that one.

See? This is why I asked in the stream if anything was missing XD. I have some caves on hand, so let me see what I can come up with.

As for the other thing, I made two layouts. one with, and one without. But I forgot to add it in as a second, optional layer. I'll just replace the current, with the other one. And change the text to Mexibeamed. I'll add "Clutch" to the other side as well.

also add something about "dreams" ppl use that term when they are betting on someone with ridiculously low odds against someone with the higher bet.

I have "Always The Dream" in there, but I can add something else about dreams on the far right. On the far left, I'm adding "Terrorists Win". I have 4 spots available on the wall, two on each side. As for the caves, none of them seem to be working out, as resizing them, even in photoshop, doesn't seem to help much. I might leave it as is, until I can find something more suitable.

there being no cave is saddening maybe a door? with a pickaxe next to it or something?

as for the texts lets see

something about tohou would work or "2hu" since people have no idea how its pronounced.

maybe "always bet swords"? thats used alot

im trying to come up with more.

could use "DU DU DU DU"

if you  want to throw a reference to "yuri Di AAAAAA" that would be funny
