The King Of Fighters Anthology
« on: July 04, 2011, 12:27:49 AM »
Hi!

With most playable characters and stages made and inspired by the gold age of SNK sprite-works from KOF 94 to Neogeo Battle Coliseum.

KOFA 3rd version is not just a simple compilation. Almost 2 crazy years of seeking and digging about everything done in kof sprited style in Mugen.
720p screenpack designed by myself (same structure as the MMV one (wide menu and 4/3 fights)).
585 characters (+ hidden -not much kofed- chars) and 250 classified stages. Each character has been worked, edited, improved (with a simplified gameplay, 4 buttons easy combos and specials/hypers frenzy) in order to have the most complete homogeneous game.
Every original authors credited.

Errr, where? Checked http://www.duracelleur.com/mugen/ and just don't see it anywhere there... 8-}
---
Nevermind, clicked on "here" o.O# bit sleepy today... (make it big or bold please)
---
Tested a bit and should say it's very nice overall :) Plays nice, looks nice, only thing I could complain about is roster - 2 of 3 Iory and Athena versions could be moved to secret characters(like place main version on far left/right visible slot and make them hidden next to it), second versions of Terry, Mr. Karate and Geese could be moved there too and on newly freed slots I would like to see Freeman, Butt, Kevin, Hokutomaru from GMOTW, Bob, Franco and Sokaku from RBFF2:TN.
Overall roster is good and features some neat chars
---
Err, and some Hypers should be balanced, Jaime and Gustab could kill you with full health o.O# (and Gustab with his always full energy meter clearly boss/secret char, which I suppose should be moved from visible table, instead you may place Rasputin/Janne/J.Max from WH instead).
Well, I know how easy I make it sounds, it's hard work on finding and adapting, but I'm not asking, I'm suggesting :)

are the characters edited to be balanced(same button configuration, styles are mostly the same)? btw the screenpack is pretty sweet.

OK class! Now remember, in order to give someone proper feedback, you must BASH them! Because being nice, and or respectful, is frowned upon in the Mugen community... Ok, so what do we do to new creators and patch makers kids?

(Kids yelling) BASH THEM!!!

That's right class! now get out there and discourage someone!

(Kids) Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You downloaded all parts? They are in same directory?
Also you may try Combine option on first part and then extract combined file. Hope that'll help.

This looks pretty interesting, and I'll certainly be downloading it when it comes out. I do have a couple of questions though, if you'd like to answer them.

1.How's the AI? The last big KoF Compilation I downloaded, (KOFUM-EX,) while having an amazing roster as well, suffered due to having wonky AI. Sometimes, it was just far too hard, but most of the time, there wasn't any AI at all, and as a result, fights tended to be incredibly easy. Is there AI for all characters in this game, or is there a general lack of AI, and low difficulty as a result?

2.How many characters are in this game? (Not counting alternate versions of characters. I generally count EX characters, or alternate versions of characters, as separate.)

Again, if you could answer these questions, that would be great, but either way, I'll be downloading this. Congratulations for all the work you put into this, and I'll be sure to check it out come release. :Terry

1.How's the AI?

AI isn't touched. I'll let it as it is coded. So as you said some chars are very unbalanced...

2.How many characters are in this game? (Not counting alternate versions of characters. I generally count EX characters, or alternate versions of characters, as separate.)

200 chars, 24 hidden/boss chars,
2 versions of Terry (cap/no cap), 2 versions of Robert (kof/nbc), some K' clones.

Congratulations for all the work you put into this

Thanks!

So, I've downloaded your compilation, and the first thing I noticed was that that, aside from the Title screen and Select Screen, there's no music whatsoever. Did you forget to add music in, or was this intentional?

...Upon looking further into your compilation, I think you should have clarified what you meant when you said, 'KoF Style.' See, I assumed you meant that that each character would have the same KOF-style mechanics. But, as it is, Rose and Koshiro both can't do small-jumps, and Koshiro can't even roll; that's just two characters, but I think there might be more. And then there's some characters like Hwa-Jai, who have all the mechanics, but have different button-setups.

Now, this might just be opinion, but to me, if you're claiming for a MUGEN game to be a certain 'style,' then I expect all characters to be in that style. Just having KOF-style graphics doesn't cut it. There's actually a compilation that still has a ton of characters, but has them all play the same, with KoF gameplay. Only one character (Washizuka,) doesn't have a small-jump, and even then, he used to have it in a previous version of the game. (Why this was changed was beyond me...) So it's a possible to make a large, yet still true, KoF-style compilation, as it's already been done.

What I'm getting at is that you shouldn't just gather characters with a similar graphic-style, slap something on the cover, and say that it's done in a certain style, when it truly isn't. As it is, 'KoF Anthology' is just one of the many dime-a-dozen compilations that just aren't worth it, especially when there are better offerings in the MUGEN world. (I already listed one.) I think though, that you spent some more time with it, made everyone play the same, and also added actual music, then we might actually have a decent product here.

Anyway, just my two cents.

Let me clarify one thing : sure it is a compilation with "KOF-style graphics" characters. It is my first and only motivation.
I really don't think I'll take the time and the envy to edit all the chars to have the same mechanics as you said.

Now as I always say : the screenpacks, edits, compilation, etc. I make for mugen, I do them for myself...... and share to the community. You don't like this compilation? it's cool.

Hope to see something from you. I'll be glad to return your two cents.
