The winner picked the theme....
YOU HAVE 2 WEEKS to make your entry. Entries will be due FRIDAY June 18th.
Week #51's theme is .....
" Trumpets sound "
8 bit week
(favorite characters in 8 bit)
This is kind of a cool idea that I think will be fun & everyone should be able to join in. I have seen other members in the past enter 8 bit sprites into the comp. One of them won third place one week  Make your favorite character in 8 bit graphics. So head on over to Dr Schnapp's & get yourself an 8 bit sprite sheet to start some editing.
Hopefully Spidermew or someone will help out & post some sites to get many 8 bit sprite sheets.
Anyway there you have it , good luck to you all . Same deal as before, PM me your submissions . I will not accept sprites that are just palette swaps . You will actually have to do some alterations to the sprites or make them using a different base than they are .
You have until Friday June 18th at midnight to enter your submissions

Edit.

The good ol' days week (spriting favorite characters as kids)
The winner picked the theme & going with the flow of his entry he chose something.
I'm a little confused by this part of the post.

My bad.....lol
I always copy & paste all the theme suggestions into the thread, decide & then delete the ones I didn't use. I must of left that in there by mistake because at the same time I was PMing a member about some problems with the forum.
The theme definitely is 8 bit

Word. Cool. Hope to see many entrees this time around.

Cooked up a little chart to help you guys get that 8-bit feel.

Looks like we're going to have to compromise all shading, so get creative :)
-
Third place... Oh wait, you mean me! ;*)) I'm honored that I got mentioned. So you can probably guess that I'm entering this contest. I still have a working NES, so I'll be cooking up some highbrow antiques.

Sounds like some super high quality entries.

LOL the deadline is my b'day.
This is a pretty cool theme. To clarify, is it an entire scene or....are we just limited to one character? Like if someone wanted to sprite the entire roster of a game or something...
Also, can someone define 8-bit? Are there colour limitations if there's more than one character?
-
The best way I could define it, from the chart I posted up there, was each section of the character needs to be an opaque color. There isn't any room for shading. And, based on other challenges, I'd guess you can sprite as many characters as you want.

Sure sprite as many characters as you want. Make an entire scene if you want. But if a background is involved, it does have to be sprited by you.
-
This should be interesting.

Hey! I have a birthday a day after yours!

I have never made a 8 bit sprite before...but maybe I'll try to mimick somethink like...http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/525514 (http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/525514) from newgrounds.
-
I forgot to ask one question. Do I need to create an 8-bit char in a spritesheet or just a sprite?

Just a single sprite.

Well now you cant. Because if you do, people will know what you did cuz you announced it here.

It was more of a joke-but I don't know if I'm capable of spriting a 8 bit sprite...so I'll just sit this one out.
-
How's that? How come you can't do an 8-bit sprite?

For several reasons actually: Right now I'm taking summer classes at my College and I'm writing a paper for English. I just don't know if I have the luxury to sprite a 8bit sprite that I'm confident will look exactly like the character I'm trying to create.
...But if I do join it will be a surprise.
-
Take your time, Vitamin. Yeah... the English class is quite complex. Writing is my weakness. I hope you finish your long assignment before sprite editing. It's hard to resist that "doing what you want" stuff.

Write it on why spriting is important.

Remember your sprites have to be in by this Friday!
-
Today is the last day to get your entries in.

*sigh* Finals bogged me down these past two weeks. I couldn't enter! :'(

Neither did I.. I had a final project to work on but hopefully the turn out is still good, and if not we'll wait until the next one.. I know these past 2 weeks were prepping for finals though I'm sure some people goofed off and took a break.. made some sprites... hopefully.. haha...
-
You still have like 15 minutes to turn something in
-
Haha. Me & spriting in 15 minutes.. oh my goodness that would look horrible.. lol...
-
It only needs to be 8 bit. Mega Man is like the easyest 8bit thing to edit.
