Title: Do emulators work on a MacBooks?

Of course they do, and yes most of them are safe.

Of course there are emulators built for macs but there are ways get the windows version of the emulators working also. Apple has included a program called Boot Camp on all Macs which will allow you to install windows on your Mac. Once Windows is installed every time you boot the computer on you can select if you want Windows or Mac to run. Then you can run your emulators from there.

These programs for a price will allow you to run windows as a virtual OS(you can run windows while you are on the Mac OS) and you can then install the emulators you need on there.

To use one of these methods you need to have a Windows install disc(you can't use a upgrade disc) to install the Windows OS.
