How to make shadows.

I'm not talking about afterimages, that's been done to death. I'm talking about these kind of shadows.





I want shadows like this because I can't stand the default shadows in MUGEN. They look f**ked up with a majority of characters and stages, especially characters with odd sprite alignments like Elena from SFIII. Her shadow looks atrocious, especially her win poses.

Any idea how to code something like this? The flames that form a circle and flow around Master Geese  and follow him wherever he goes are probably coded in a similar matter, if any of you have seen that.

I haven't done this, but this how I would attack this problem.

First, to disable the current shadows, open up mugen.cfg and change DrawShadows = 1 to say DrawShadows = 0.

Next sprite the round little shadow.

Then use the shadow sprite as the default animation for an Explod.  (you could do it as a helper too but let's try an explod)

in the explod, set  the sprite priority line like this:

    sprpriority = -3

That makes sure the shadows are never on-top of characters or other helpers.

Getting the shadow to follow the player around is also done with one line:

bindtime = -1

The tricky part is how to get the shadow to only follow the player around left/right but not up/down.  Hmmm..

I know it can be done.  The kraken and killer-whale characters do something similar with a wooden board that follows you around like a shadow... but I'd have to open up those characters to investigate how they did it.

I tried copying over PotS' Kraken board coding to a character and changed some group and anim numbers, with no success.

yeah, coding the shadow itself as a helper for every character is probably the only way to achieve this effect. I'll try to dig up a tutorial for you.

Sorry to bump this topic, but I'm searching for some hours now how to put a shadow helper to replace the one of mugen.
