Krillin was a monk, he said so in one of the early episodes of Dragonball that the reason he went to Roshi was because everyone picked on him for being small and weak, and monks are Buddhism, Buddhism is a popular in Japan. In one of the DBZ movies Krillin is singing while drunk about how he loves living in Japan.

In the Janemba movie, Hitler and the Nazi's are resurrected after all the dead evil beings are released. So you can tell the anime takes place on Earth, and while it is a heightened reality with dinosaurs and whatnot, if you watched all the episodes and movies, you can pretty much add up that the majority of DBZ takes place in Japan. The japanase kanji on the clothes, and characters wearing Japanese clothing also kind of give it away.
Another thing you should know about Goku, was originally Dragon Ball was based on a ancient Chinese novel called Journey to the West.

Plus, Goku never looked asian to me. Come on, the guy gets blue eyes and blonde hair when he powers up.

So now your saying all white guys have blue eyes and blond hair when they get stronger?

Edit: I thought SSJ1 and 2 were green eyes and 3 was blue.

it doesn't really matter what race goku is its just about your perception of what goku is so if you see him as white then he should be white and if you see him as asian then he is asian.......but with that being said why is everyone else in the movie asian cept for bulma cause I'm sure roshi,yamcha,chi-chi, and the rest of the cast could be white as well but they are not so why would goku or bluma be different.....and to the "blonde hair blue eyes when he powers up" what does that have to do with anything but if that is the case goku as a normal saiyan has jet black hair and that is more common with asian,latin or black people more than white people...so those are some reasons people want to see goku as being asian

the reason we are "bitching" is becasue this movie looks or feels nothing like dragon ball and well when you go to see a moive based off something you know and love you expect it to at least be up to par and well the last two movies like this streetfighter and mario bros movies hollywood changed them so much and made them horrible flops/money grabbers at the box office and well that is what they are doing with this one and we are upset about it.....and well I dont know about you but if I had to choose over eating nothing and eating dirt I would choose nothing so sometimes nothing is better than something

I don't know about you, but I do. And so does Travis Touchdown.

the hair was just an immediate example. facial features, etc. don't suggest asian descent. The only cities i ever heard of in DBZ were north city, south city, and all those so i suppose they can be whatever the creators want.

Nah, what I was trying to say earlier was, a good bit of anime characters have designs that seem to be based on westerners, so it makes sense to cast a westerner.
