Title: Microsoft Office
Post by: ATiC3 on December 15, 2009, 02:36:30 AM
Microsoft Office is a really universal tool, and not much more could be said about it except that EVERYONE uses it. It's a key part of our lives in today's society for school and more!

Many people may not know that Microsoft actually announced Office 2010. "On April 15, 2009, Microsoft confirmed that Office 2010 will be officially released in the first half of 2010." Right now, there is actually a Microsoft Office 2010 beta, but I wouldn't recommend it now (unless you have 2 computers to work with) because you have to upgrade from 2007 to the 2010 beta. I would wait for the 2010 actual release to upgrade... ;*))

The only people who will actually buy this software are business people and maybe a few school/university that will enforce the use of this software. I know that at the University I'm going to has recently updated to Microsoft Office 2007 I switched over as well. I don't plan on an a upgrade my senior year unless the software is drop dead awesome.

Also with the economy the way it is, the Universities will likely opt out at least for a few years due to budget issues. If I am correct the software will probably not sell as well as the company will hope for.

I don't like 07 because of the blinking icon on the top left of word. I hate it because it takes my attention off of my work.

I believe I have office 07 which I have only installed once. I really don't use M$'s office software so this is nothing to me. I know of a couple of free alternatives like open office and stuff like that.

Plus Office is always really expensive so unless you get student discounts the average person will not buy it, when there are free alternatives or just the internet period.  ;)

nick09, I don't think that windows icon blink? I have windows 07 and that's the windows icon to open up the access tools for like file, open, print, etc.

I didn't like the software at first because it took me a like 5 minutes to find file>open. I ended up looking in the help icon to access it. Why make these tools that you use constantly hidden. But other than that the bulk of the software is the same. There's the cool bubble where we can make comments. That's a plus.

Is it compatible with Office documents? How about docx documents too? I know office 2003 and office 2007 changed file types.

Open office should be compatible with everything M$ uses for any of its office suite programs. But just google it to verify.

Me too. Office 2003 was one of the easiest things to use, but 2007 is hard to learn. I've been trying to work 2007, and it's so complicated.

I hope they would make things easier in Office 2010.
