I've switched from being a console gamer ever since i built my current computer, and i noticed my options for mmorpg's are limited in terms innovation and business model's that are offered to me. In an ideal world I'm pretty sure we would all love for most of these top mmorpg's to be free but they have to make money right!

So my question is simple, for those who play online games on your comp's what business model would you rather prefer.

1.subscription fee = usually have quality content (non-asian grindfest)
2.Micro-transaction = have okay to good content but usually require's a purchase from a cash shop to either level up further or obtain specific in-game content
3.Advertisement = usually dont apply to mmorpg's (Mostly paid games that are to old to make a profit so they become free like: http://www.infinitymugenteam.com/Forum_345/index.php?topic=9168.30 )
4. Completely free = Very rare because there is no profit or server money to keep the game going.

i believe that i can stand in game advertising as long as it doesn't affect the gameplay drastically...I'm not into mmorpg's but that's what i would prefer if i was

I say subscription fee. Perhaps a very small amount like 3 dollars a month, provided you update content constantly.
Idealy this would be for a game that is anticipated has been created yet only a large portion is released leaving some room for continuous updates. Then the consumer would actually feel like they where paying for a service not just a server

Well standing from experience with Eve-online (www.eve-online.com) its pretty sweet even with a $15 a month sub fee and I pay for 2 accounts every month. But it does allow every 60 days 90 days 3 months and 1 year. As always the 1 year is way cheaper on you then the $15 a month. But eve releases a new expansion pack with awesome new content every 3-6 months. So im getting a brand new game basically every 3-6 months. Plus they updated the graphics engine recently to DX9 and its hella sweet. Everyone should check it out if you have the money to spend.

DISCLAIMER : If you do decide to pay Eve its got a steep learning curve. The way the game is setup you train skills while you are on or offline. So you put in a skill and then can go offline till it completes. SO no grinding for skills and crap. But the first 3 months are dedicated to what are called learning skills so that makes the regular skills learn faster then without the learning skills.

EDIT sorry guess I went alittle overboard there but my opinion still stands I prefer a sub then anything else. It usually gurantees quality content and sometimes expansion packs for free.
