One of the more obscure X-Men/Wolverine Villians, Cyber.

Here's a character I liked when I read comics. Something that has potential.

If I may make an observation: You are not doing the shoulders.

Good luck.

Hey there, nice idea for char. Silas is a really messed up dude and deserves more attention.
However, I don't think you will get originality points with Zangief. Many characters have already used this base... and it seems that you need to first learn how to sprite, frankensprite and animate.

My advice is to skip the metal arm bands for now. Focus on anatomy, general movement and gethits.
Attacks will come naturally as you develop your skills. And the metal arm bands can be added later to the sprite.

Here's a gift in case you feel like revisiting your base design. This one uses Chadha and Broly. None of which have really been featured in original mugen chars. You may need to add some details, but this is a pretty practical "sprite by numbers".

That looks amazing Navs.

I'll absolutely take your advice and look into changing up the design into something more original for sure. Thanks!

You're welcome, dude.

Here's another one with bases that have seen more use.
You can also combine these parts with the other prototype. Tiger from Martial Masters is a good base too.

Here's what I ended up with so far:

Chadha - Body and Base
Sabretooth - Legs
Venom - Arms

I couldn't find a Broly that I didn't think the arms were too big. I did check out Tiger and tried some parts.

YES, this looks pretty good! Very nice work merging the bases. Couple of notes:
- Anatomy: there's an "empty" upside-down L piece between torso and hanging arm, I'd fill 3 pixels in the angle of the L there to "continue" the torso or open it a little bit more. As a "rule of thumb", always avoid long lines, they break the visual.
- Pals: IIRC, Chadha has 4 colors, Sabretooth has 5-6(?). You might need to add an extra shade here and there in the upper body to match the scheme. Suggestion: either add few pixels as a transition from lightest to second lightest shade or add one extra darker tone.
- Abs: need to improve the lower part. Suggestion: close as a 4-pack with a rounder end and darker colors.
- Colors: It's quite a strong blue with low contrast. I suggest using a standard palette to make things easier and then pick your colors later (check anything by PrimeOp or Z999, they are always well-balanced).

If you ever consider Cable for legs, let me know, I might have something that will help save time :)

@rocketgoboom You have a good start and a strong initiative. Seeing this WIP immediately remember a game:

Surely with the tutelage of Navs41 you will be able to achieve a great result.

Here's where I'm at right now:

-Changed the strong blue color.
-Added another darker color to the chest/neck.
-Added Abdomen and general muscle definition.
-Changed up the face to something more resembling the reference pictures.
-Added some more 'girth' to the bird ankles.
-Also, the arm color comes from Colossus, as I wanted to maintain that metal look.

I'm very happy with him as he is right now. Anything you guys would change?

@MatreroG I did watch that video as well. It inspired me for one of his special moves I'm planning to do (eventually), where he just walks forward with a 'shield' that won't allow him to be combo'd.

Thanks a ton guys! Navs you have my eternal thanks for your advice!

Time to start working on the animation.

It might be awhile until my next update, so I made this and it turned out better than I expected.

Love seeing this now when mugen lacks new talent so bad. Nice improvement and props to an old dog like Navs teaching tricks to the new blood. As long as you're willing to learn and be humble, you can only go up!

You're welcome, dude. Animation is tricky, you might want to wait for Harbinger's take... or Alice, if you feel like going PRO (I don't, maybe later) :D

Many spriters make the initial UP-DOWN mistake. It goes like this: 1) stretch legs, 2) stretch abs, 3) move shoulders up, reverse, rinse, repeat.

I get it, I've done it too and I still start animating like that. It's easier, it's routine and it works (sometimes).
When properly used, it works REALLY well (e.g. SSF2 CPS1 Hadouken Intro)

Here's my first stance for Moon Knight, more than a decade ago (terrible!):

I'd say you try something different. Maybe challenge yourself to sprite the impression of a body twist. No torso, just move the arms. Check KGBeast and Grifter - simple and somewhat effective:

(https://hosting.photobucket.com/albums/aa104/navsmed41/.highres/KGBeaststance1_zps6c25c3ec.gif)(https://hosting.photobucket.com/albums/aa104/navsmed41/.highres/stance_zpsxvajhnd0.gif)

I suggest you use part of Sabretooth's stance cycle, about 4 sprites, maybe avoid the section he lunges. Isolate the legs and animate as 1,2,3,4,4,3,2,1. See how it works without the torso. If good, clean it up and prepare for surgery.

I see you are using Eddie's transformation arms - you won't find much movement there and Venom's original stance won't work for you with this body position. It's time to check Tiger, Alex (SF3) and Urien and shop for parts. If you find the perfect upper body cycle there, go to town.

Let me know if this will help with your portrait

YES. You are absolutely right! This was a very nice surprise. All the best, bro.
