There are multiple links on the web, most of them have quite a few limitations in their free use, sometimes achieving only a low quality result.
Midjourney is the most popular and was free for a while.
From what I read, a good alternative, at least to what I'm looking for (pixel art), is
Leonardo AI. You have to request access to the trial version and due to its high demand it can take a few months. It offers image generation engines, one in particular specialized in pixel art or vintage aesthetics.
I'm on the waiting list to try it.

pixel perfect but it is still interesting to try it.
