That's not all, Smash Bros. Ultimate is not in the lineup this year. How sad!  *Iceman ThumbsDown!*

With physical EVO being cancelled, the only way run a tourney with MvC2 would be to find XB360s and/or PS3s that ALREADY have the game downloaded and ship them to the players, of which only 4 were confirmed (the other 4 were supposed to be qualified in).

MvC2 HD was delisted during the Fox/Disney Haggle Arc and never ported up to PS4/XB1. 20urnament of Champions is still listed though, so I'm assuming they're gonna run exhibition matches with the highlighted games to celebrate 20 years of EVO instead of MvC2's 20 anniversary. That being said, MvC2's initial inclusion gives me hope that we're gonna get some sort of Marvel announcement at the end.

It's a smart decision. Smash's netcode is rather atrocious and having it showcased for the masses to watch would be bad form for the game. Hopefully, this year's EVO will open eyes of developers to put more care and effort into fighting games seeing as how their continued relevant is now mostly on the backs of people being able to play with each other remotely, ESPECIALLY during the current time.  Skullgirls and Killer Instinct saw a massive resurgence in that regard because both games just work.
