stun attacks. Only works once during a juggle.

attack types
High- hits standing and aerial
Mid- hits standing, crouching and aerial
Low-hits standing and crouching not aerial


Just Frame attack
A move that requires strict input to execute. It's similar to an EX attack giving extra benefits as oppose to its standard counterpart. The movetype has extremely fast startup and is always safe on block giving you frame advantage. Cool down of the move is also pretty quick.
Not all just frame attacks are done after charging some characters can do this type of move without powering up

stun types
nose bleed stun small advantage frame
jelly legs stun - large advantage frame
impact stun- topples opponent.

It's based on tommy but I guess I could add a sound swap option so that the user can switch to burai.

Yea i love the detail that you put in your chars but i must ask is there going to be more chars available or is that the final roster? cause that roster is rather small but then again since you makin 3D chars im sure it takes you a very long time to make the chars

and btw i barely know most of those chars i only know king,yoshimitsu,bane (of course) the green ranger and the guy with the one eye but i forgot were he is from

No, I'm not taking character requests since the dlc characters are already listed in the roster. The characters that don't come with the first release will come as dlc after.

Yes axel has been revamped along with pretty much everyone else you've seen including grey fox. I haven't finished axel yet and he isn't in the showcasing stages yet.

In regard to the beta release. I have said before I will release after I build a screenpack and solidify some coding issues to ensure you get a pretty damn good beta. It won't be long before you'll be playing this trust me.

This project is a total win. İ like the effort and all. The only thing that doesnt feel right is Green Ranger's voices. Do you plan to change his sounds to more common ones? İf you think to change its voice and look for voice actors, i could support you with that.

Yes exactly. No storyline in this game. Its like tekken tag 2. Just a spin-off series to my actual project which will come after this. So if you're waiting for a story don't expect one in this. The most you can expect is character endings.

The regular KFM has about 4 moves. I just gave him a lot more and added my style to it.

Cheers, I dunno who'd win. Snake has fought and defeated much worse then nina williams. Psycho mantis, screaming mantis, grey fox you name it.

Thanks, I try to keep the colours as bold as possible so that when I highlight the colours the necessary parts are affected. If not then I just recolour what I can.

I've finally figured out screenpack creation and have been working hard at it for this project. Not long left until the alpha release and you guys can finally get to play this game :o

Screen pack updates

Finally had the round table discussion with the team. It's been a long time since all of us were under the same roof so it was kinda fun. Lots of matches and data collected. We have even worked out the basic tiering for the current roster.

This is how Versus Ultimate looks. This is the complete version of Versus with all characters and main build. The main font for both may change in the end.

Select screen so far, don't worry about the roster size here, there are plenty more characters to add so the select HUD will be exapanded to fit all of those characters in.

Btw, I have a model of a Skeleton with internal organs (you can see his organs), maybe could be a bonus char. If you have any interest, pm me.

obviously yoshi can't really blink but you get the idea.

EDIT: Animated Port idea is now out of the question. The method is not only tedious but unstable for the executable.

well you could always make another picture for there portrait so when you pick them they smirk or something that should be alright for the executable right. :cool

I'm very excited about making her in 3d and giving her some nice TKD moves.

I updated Arch Angel Adriel and gave her pants rather then a dress. Animating a dress got too annoying especially since she has kicking attacks. I also gave her thicker wings.

Ive been thinking bout modeling out my next Mega man character and rendering the model out in 2-d pixels. Cant remember how the process goes (But i can recreate it given time.) but it makes animating 2-d sprites a breeze.

As for embedding in the site, it like you figured it out but ill tell you anyways. Yes jin plays as he does in TTT2 and has a devil jin transformation stance. Also after certain moves he will be able to transform as part of combos very similar to the way No-face will do.

The palette works fine,The chrome only takes up a few spaces and it's not the first time I've used chrome shaders in mugen.

I assume you're talking about 1.1. The palettes are unlimited with pngs but I highly recommend that you do not use that option since it will render your mugen unstable and cause crashes since the memory will increase substantially. Not worth it.

There is no story to the game it's literally a mash up game like the Tekken Tag series. The characters themselves have stories though which I plan on showing in their intros.  Also some characters will have interaction intros.

Later on after this project I plan on creating another game with my original characters only in order to further explain their stories. I also want to create a weapon based game like soul calibur later down the line.

I still have a lot more moves to give both her and aya hitsumi but they are battle ready with a wide variety of commands thus far. However in this video my move cancelling with TKD girl was kinda sloppy and aya kept interrupting my offense. TKD girl can cancel her machine gun kicks back into her left kicking stance aka (flamingo stance) and can switch to her right leg. She also has a wide array of fakes that transition into her flamingo stance.

Kousoku jutsu f/3 from 3+4
one of the 5 jutsu in sumiko's hotarudou (way of the firefly) fighting style. This is performed from her *Hotaru-jutsu stance*.

This is a sprinting move that covers a lot of ground. It can also be followed up into attacks. During the kousoku sprint sumiko can put the breaks on by tapping down or switching directions by tapping back

Testing out the revamped version of sumiko and also showcasing my new valley of the fallen stage. Sumiko has a crap load of moves that I unfortunately couldn't show all off in this video. She is probably the most technically advanced character in this project possessing multiple stances, summons, style switches and secret arts in her arsenal

Note: Sumiko is able to summon hawks to aid her. They are very useful for interrupting attacks, extending combos (although damage is only 1) or simply used to create diversions.

Secret summon: Sumiko can summon a dragon in place of the hawk. :D

After some talk with the team we came to a decision to update the character textures by making them look sharper and more vibrant.  In the process I decided to update mitsuko's look a little. Thanks, yes tekken was the main inspiration. I have even managed to get the frame data the same as Tekkens which is something you'll  notice when I release the demo.

-Tkd Girl is fun to play she does indeed have similarities to hwoarang and baek as well as her own original spice. She is one of those characters that can be played both aggressively and defensive, turtle style.

Hmm, not really. The only woman who is supposed to be overly muscular is mitsuko. The others are mostly athletic fit builds, besides the likes of madam woe who is pretty much anorexic and yun zhang who is average petite. Oh and the original designer of TKD girl designed her with thick thighs kinda like chun li I just followed his design.

No, this is the first and only TKDgirl in a project. It was however designed by a guy that I watch on deviantart. So I asked him if I could include his character in my project to which he agreed. He gave me the freedom to do whatever I please with her pretty much. -  :cool ha, I'm looking to get this out before Christmas so you'll get your chance Very soon. Yeah Aya has some good combos but I dropped quite a lot of them in the video so you couldn't see what she is really capable of.

Sputnik updates | Is now fully battle ready

Spit Rhymez/ Rapping stance
-Sputnik will perform a random rap that can be cancelled into a dash or into his (B-boy stand)
every time sputnik cancels you'll here a DJ scratch sound. So playing with sputnik is like being a DJ  as well as a fighter lol one of my favorite characters so far. Overall; Sputnik is slightly slower then the rest of the cast whilst attacking. He also doesn't have any 10 frame startup jabs like most the cast. However he is still a contender with multiple launch options and good mid tools.

-Sputnik is original. He was initially designed by my friend back in high school and since then myself and he have been coming up with other sputnik concepts. I came up with this one.

-Yes the game is free to play. But some of the dlc stuff like unique costumes or commissioned versus characters are not though.

-The outline is supposed to be there since the colours are too dark on his gloves. The white is from the rim highlight shader I added.

I wanted N.B.K to look more different to his sputnik-X counter part so I gave him a more unique dome visor. He will also play as a Sputnik-X Clone minus the hip-hop gimmicks since N.B.K is meant to be a stone cold killer. So you can expect to see him in action in the future.

Mitsuko's sprites have been updated as well as new moves, frame data adjustments added.
Additionally: Her tactical Roll has been removed and replaced with a tactical dash/ Recon step.

Aya hitsumi also has some new added moves and frame data adjustments.

-Sputnik is original. He was initially designed by my friend back in high school and since then myself and he have been coming up with other sputnik concepts. I came up with this one.

-Yes the game is free to play. But some of the dlc stuff like unique costumes or commissioned versus characters are not though.

I'm making a game myself (3d rendered and put into 2D world of MUGEN) as well that is going to be created from scratch using MUGEN engine, and it's going to be free. I've contacted my lawyers in the firm and they said that i can't make UNIQUE content that i created from scratch make "commercial" but the game itself make free...cause he explained it like this -

i can not use MUGEN or any other materials that are copyrighted by other people/companies for financial gains. If i make these kind of content FREE but my own content COMMERCIAL within one product where the MAIN ATTRACTION is FREE SOURCE, copyrighted by others for NONPROFIT use only, it still will be considered to be copyright breach because in court of law it will look like i'm using "free" stuff like MUGEN etc to sell my own materials, and it is against the law.

So if you know any other option how to separate two things and not get in trouble with copyrights - i'd love to hear it =) might be useful for me as well!

 I'm thinking on making sequel to it Commercial with only fictional characters from this one + some new stuff, of course if "Overkill" does well =) Still thinking about engine for the sequel - MUGEN or smth else...maybe smth 3D, because all stuff i create is UNITY ready

Basically Make FREE SCREENPACK with characters and stages as DLC for some donations so to say =) But still it's only in the far future for me, so if i decide to make sequel commercial and on MUGEN i of course will contact Elecbyte. BTW any news why their website is down? maybe there is noone to contact anymore? (((

Concerning wrestlers yes, i know bout their contracts and so on, had one myself, thats why Sting and Hart couldn't approve, even for a free project =) but from Pro-wrestlers i have only Goldberg, others are indy wrestlers and here, on the indy stage, we have no contracts with organizations, only handshakes, but if we do have "contracts" its only kayfabe, for the cams.

Was also thinking about adding The Predator to Overkill...already have completely poseble 3D model, even better then in MKX, need to work on the sprites though.

Wow, this changes a lot of things =) But no worries Overkill is still free, cause it might look and and so on, but still not good enough for commercial usage.

Btw, love the way your 3D figures look...some mixture between cartoonish and real-life models...love it...lots of current fighting games lack it! it gives me a retro nostalgic feeling!

-Yes, you will always have to request permission for licensed characters. However in regard to the mugen engine the copyright is now rendered void since it has expired in 2013 which means the engine could potentially be sold with original content.

Today I implemented a EX-cancel system which works awesome. It literally made the game twice as fun to play. So far the cancel requires 1 full bar of meter out of a possible 3.  So so far the system works like this.

Level 1 and above;=Ex cancel
Level 2 and above;= ??
Level 3 and above;= Special Combo (kinda like T7) with no rage initiation.

Any suggestions for a level 2? I'm not really a fan of the rage system in Tekken. The damage boost is far too much.

It's a system that lets you cancel out of most grounded attacks. I'll post a video later on tonight.

No I tried 500 and it made the game far too combocentric. With 1 bar it at least forces the player to think about meter management, should they ex-trigger or Ex-cancel. It also forces them to work to regain that meter in order to reap that reward.

Yes you're partially correct. I am focusing on originals but the mugen legend characters are still part of the main roster. (kung fu man, ronald aka (donald in japan) are still in it. The other none s.2.g characters may end up being add-ons. But they are no longer the primary focus.

Mitsuko's sprites have been updated yet again and for the final time. I have given her some gaunlets to accompany her leotard.

no it's really this simple his entire hand is behind it for the most part. The only time it's in front is when he lifts his arms slightly during his stance. Remember this is a 3d model so it's damn near impossible for the perspective to be off.

-Madam woe is not a demo character but is near completion.
-The other cast you see are all playable but are lacking enough moves to showcase at the moment.
-The characters in roster that aren't shown on the website are not in the playable phase yet.

New Fight video


Once again testing the new mechanics. I've also made some additions to both characters such as grounded attacks. I also have plans on adding a new buildable-meter to the fight HUD for some kind of unique attack.

Jou and his Queen of hearts summon
Queen of hearts can be summoned to perform an attack before leaving the screen. She can also be attacked just like a regular character and knocked off the screen to level the playing field.

About J.O.U
Jou is intended to play as a counter hitter, he has best crouching/ whilst standing offensive tools in the game. So the player will find himself crouching a lot and waiting for opportunities to strike. He also has arguably the best jumping left kick in the game thus far with  extended range. He shares some of donald's moves but ultimately the 2 are very different. I also forgot to showcase some other moves as usual.

This project keeps making me think of how I want to do my characters (that being 3D rendering them and getting the sprites through posing).  So I've been wondering: what program do you use to do the renders?  I'd usually assume Blander, as it's the easiest to acquire, but you never know.

I use autodesk maya. But the same principles should apply universally with other 3d software.

I came up with an idea to get the community more involved in this project and at the same time fill out the roster. So here is the proposal..........

We figured it would be a great idea to feature some more characters developed by the community in our project. Specifically speaking we are in need of some big burly men characters.  I'm not really looking for anymore female muscular types we already have 2. I can't really help you with that program MakeHuman it's literally the first time I've heard of such a program. I recommend Autodesk Maya or 3ds max.

MakeHuman is made primarily for Blender, so that makes sense.  Overall, I do have a dream to create my own fighting game (maybe using the Blender game engine, maybe the Universal Fighting Engine or EF12--not MUGEN because the possibilities are more restricted due to the work not being able to be commercial), with the possibility of transferring characters over to MUGEN.

But yeah, the burly male characters I have are two giants, one man that can change his size (generally to also be giant-sized), a half-dragon man, and a villain whose design is inspired by Jack Kirby (a terrible drawing I did a few years ago--I'm better now, I swear--is below).

A lot of people seem to forget that no game engine can be used commercially period. The unreal engine is the same. You will end up paying thousands for a commercial license. The same applies to any other engine.

The real issue is which engine best supports your needs.

Well, there are open source engines, which makes it easier (though still needing hoops to go through).  Elecbyte keeps going down and they don't like to keep in touch when they're up.

Also, MUGEN's copyright hasn't expired.  Their dates on their website simply seems to refer to (start year)-(then current year).  At least in the US, copyright for individuals is the life of the author + 70 years while corporate authorship is 120 years after creation or 95 years after publication, whichever is sooner.  Not sure if Elecbyte would fall under the corporate version, but even giving 70 years after MUGEN was created, we're nowhere near that.  The only way a copyright can expire before that time is if a copyright holder voluntarily relinquishes it.

Don't know what copyright is in other countries, though.  As a US citizen, I obviously keep more in mind of the laws of my own country, and they are most relevant to me.

Then the only secure route is to purchase a mugen commercial license like AIDUZZI did. I have been thinking about doing the same for a while  before I move the project over to another engine like unreal. Either way I will end up paying a fee. I have already copyrighted my brand and paid for the name(including my website) http://strides2gloryvs.com/  So I am actually quite serious about this.

I'm not that familiar with too many other open source engines but I know the majority require commercial licenses or collect a royalty fee from your revenue.

I index the colours in photoshop then I save as a pcx and import into FF and organize the palettes. This seems to correct the unattractive splodges especially on gradients.

-I suck at parallaxing unfortunately. I simply haven't read enough tutorials.

I lack the skills to contribute and wouldn't know where to start if I did. But Mugen needs this project to continue, it grants us all legitimacy and elevates the art form to being a clear competitor with industrial made games.

New full 3d stage.
The stage is fully 3d like my oldskool stages and features no colour loss and burning torch animation. I will go over this stage graphically because I am not happy with how it looks (lighting, normal mapping) but since the rendering took so long I thought I'd post a preview anyway. Expect the overall appearance to look different in the final adaptation.

A.I ranking system that displays on the screen.  Works pretty good on survival as the A.I will toggle from level 1 to 8. It's a good indicator of what you are up against.

She is a Crouch dash/Wave dashing Archetype similar to Kaonashi and Donald.

-just a few more tasks to be completed before beta testing volunteers are called.
-I have fully re-done TKD girls textures and re-modelled her face and costume a little.
-I have made the outlines on the sprites thicker for a more stylized effect.
-Mitsuko's loose hair was giving me problems so I have given her a tied back style. Much more easier to animate and deal with.
-Mtsuko also has Kneepads since my friend kept complaining that she needs them. I think they suit her.

To follow the pattern:
1. Uche was kinda rough there, but what matters - fully agree with him about design liked previous Mitsuko's design more... Somehow she looks more girly now, rather than womanly, don't like that.
2. To add a bit more flattery - we know you can :p
3. That's pretty common at those circles to have bottom half of chest wrapped in bandages and stick knives/guns in there for quick access. She looks cool like that and gun fits character :thumbsup:

Mitsuko's super arts and a few ways to combo in to it. The super arts do a lot of damaged when landed cleanly without combos. However the damage is scaled when tied to a combo.

I think the Vulcan Arrow needs an extra frame between the 6th and 7th frame, the 1st punch strikes very quick and barely can see it, just a nitpick.

Thanks, But it doesn't make sense me moving to another engine without the necessary funds. You need to pay for all kinds of trading licenses when it comes to other industry used engines. A lot of people don't seem to realize this. You will be paying thousands to use which ever engine commercially.  My initial plan is to make some money off this project through patreon and possibly buying a commercial license for mugen like AIDUZZI did. Maybe I can even get this on steam if the paid commercial license covers that. From there on when I have the funds I will evolve the project into something more grand using another engine.

I finished creating Guest Character "Carlie's" standing Idle sprite. The character belongs to artist bluevengeance.deviantart.com/ who submitted his concept idea in my "Ideas wanted journal" and also became my first Patreon at https://www.patreon.com/strides2glory Although I was initially looking for a big-body, male grappler type concept, I ended up really liking the idea of a female grappler type too since that is something I don't have in the project as of yet. I think I captured his characters likeness pretty well.
Although I now have a female grappler I am still accepting concepts in regard to a big-body male archetype.

This is J.O.Us new costume I updated since there wasn't much you could do with his other player select palette. The attack I animated is one of his dashing strikes, executed by pressing F,F+1 it's a 12 frame start up (MID) hitting attack.

MITSUKO VS SUB-BOSS NO FACE


Test battle showcasing new updates including new stage. (ARAHABAKI SHRINE)

Mitsuko Updates
Mitsuko has a few new moves and the overall combo system has been made more lenient. Wish I could have shown more combos but No-face was very defensive. I didn't want to risk being punished too much.

Move updates
mae-geri (front kick) is now a combo string.  (Mae-geri to right palm strike) DF+3,2.
It is nolonger completely safe and is now -11 on block and +1 on hit instead of being +7 on hit and -4.

DB+1+2 is now a single hitting high crush move with increased range.

Sub-Boss kaonashi/ No-Face
Sub-boss No-face is slightly different from when a human player picks him. One of the main differences is that he has infinite wind blades as opposed to 3.

New Corner-push system
New system implemented and has successfully prevented any infinite combos. It has also allowed me to make the combo system a little more loose.

also in my own opinion I feel that you should remove that yellow explosion. because  its don't fit with the 3d look for your characters. you can use other mean of images to make a explosion background animation

if you can manage to make them character into 3d  I have fate and I know that you can make something simple like this as an animation

Oh I don't intend to keep using mugen I have already made plans to move this over to the unreal engine or unity. But I have to raise the funds and awareness through this mugen version before I do so. The cost of a license for an official engine is insane, we are talking in the thousands.  That's one of the reasons for my Patreon. I also hope to build a team too since I am pretty much doing this alone besides 2 other guys who help with character designs and soundtracks.

But the one thing I can say about the project so far Is that it really doesn't feel like a mugen game.

Two of Azumi's separate combo strings. Her game-play video will be uploaded hopefully soon. Most of her tonfa attacks utilize range whilst being slightly slower than average. Also Azumi does not have 10 frame jab normals but instead has 12 frames making her more appropriate for space controlling and Zoning.

Azumi VS Taeyeon  battle test
Video came out a little jerky so I'll be uploading another fight video this week.
Azumi's tonfa attacks utilize range whilst being slightly slower than average. Also Azumi does not have 10 frame jab normals but instead has 12 frames making her more appropriate for space controlling and Zoning. She doesn't fare too well up close as you can probably see in the video.

BUILD A FIGHTER COLLECTION: From just $5 - $20, Patrons will now receive a collection HI resolution character sprites that can be used royalty free for your own individual projects. There will be new set of sprites each month for example: first month;
SET:1 (standing idle, Walking, crouching,jumping) the next month.....
SET: 2 I will release (forward and back-dash, standing guard, crouching guard).
SET: 3 will be attacks and so fourth until you have a full completed character that you can use for whatever you want.

Sprites will be on a 640 by 480 square, aligned and color indexed for convenience meaning you wont have to do anything except press the automatic crop button in fighter factory or any other image handling software. Once a SET is completed you will have more than enough assets to convert each character to whatever play-style you want.  Street fighter, Tekken,  KOF.  Also once SETs reach completion new characters will be introduced.  Hopefully this will be a good way to attract more Patrons.

dude, I am like your biggest fan lol. I study your interactive mugen every chance I can. You have done things in mugen that I never imagined possible and a lot of my new plans are inspired by your works bro. I'm eagerly waiting for your ring-out feature. ^:)^

I'm doing it for both. Mugen is like a test phase, kind of like the blue print version I'll use to move on to the other engine. One of the reasons I set up the Patreon page was for people to support this project's growth any way they could. $1 dollar even. I am hoping  to get the ported Unity Engine version on steam so you'll have to pay.

It'll probably look better on Unity anyways (it will probably play better, too). As for Steam, Valve is doing away with Steam Greenlight and replacing it with Steam Direct.

Figured out this combo today. I may end up scaling the damage since even without implementing the super at the end it still deals huge damage. Well over half from a 14 frame startup(stun) attack. I had no idea I could get 2 Hiryu-kens in one string.

Mitsuko's new updated costume in action.  Also the super Art now has a sumi-e ink colour effect I've been playing with.

Manga FX+COSTUME UPDATES+COMBOS


Haven't updated in a while crazy real life issues and putting stuff into perspective. But we're back on track showcasing new updated game Fx (Manga hit FX) new updated costumes and also showing off 2 new character renditions you haven't seen in action yet; Aya Yasui and Ripper-Chan.

Beta testing  & Team Recruitment.
Also Beta testers and team recruitment within the next coming weeks. I have already done Local beta testing and resolved some of the issues I got in the feed back. One of the main issues being that the game was too claustrophobic. So I have fixed that issue by altering all of the attacks and giving more push back on hits. (You'll see in the new fight videos). I have literally been studying Tekken, Virtua fighter and other fighting games religiously to capture the true fighting game feel. :D

previewing Mitsuko's Reiki charge ability. When a attack is charged the hit properties and damage output are all enhanced.
both of mitsuko's 1,1 and D+2 attacks are already pretty safe at -9 but you gain the following properties after charging
-Launch
-Mid hit
-larger forward velocity
-longer guard stun
-further guard push back

Any chance we'll be seeing the new characters in action?

P1, P2 and CPU indicators have now been added. It's a good visual indicator of human control and A.I. also it will work in conjuction with the A.I ranking system which will determine the difficulty level of the CPU.

Health restoration items and other sub-game specific features that are unique to the fighters will be available in this bonus fight.

New visual aids have been implemented, for example: When some launching moves are landed the screen will either pause and change color or will slow down a little to signify a moment to capitalise.

I was recently sold a high-end, 18gb ram, duo-graphics, Razer gaming laptop for quite a deal! This thing churns out renders in a matter of seconds which makes updating the sprites even quicker.  :w00t:

Unnamed Project

A watcher of mine on deviant art came up with an interesting Patreon concept that I thought sounded pretty cool. An exclusive game that features a sexy female cast of original characters. The plan is to not only include my own, but conduct public votes where watchers,followers & patrons can submit their own character concepts to fill up the roster. New content will be added each month as well as characters and alternate costumes. This project doesn't have a name as of yet and I'm opened to suggestions.
P.S. Mitsuko and the Amazon will be available in the pack at the end of this month.
