The progress so far:

All sprites are DONE! However I'll still make some minor adjustments to some sprites.
I also want to add a new special move, since by now I've just sprited two (a common projectile and a paralization projectile).

Feel free to give any suggestions.

I've already sprited 'em all. The #1 Darkman (tank) will do like the Rush Drill, #3 Darkman will shoot a barrage of shots and #4 Darkman will create a force field (like Chun-Li).

I've sprited a intro where he starts as Protoman (in a darker pallete) then morphs into his true self. I was thinking on a special intro Vs. Megaman just like in Megaman 5. I've asked Chaotic for permission to use his Protoman sprite.

Darkman is from Mega Man 5, he frames Protoman from kidnaping Dr. Light, and makes you wonder the whole time if protoman's swaped sides.

Spriting is almost done (check first post), but I will revise all of the sprites for minor changes, especially the morphs, since I've got the official artworks for all Darkmans, who are very different between themselves. I also wanted to add a new special attack, but I'm short on ideas.

Reason why I suggest it is because in the MvC background he's lugging around sandbags so I thought it'd be a good idea to kinda rely a bit on the physical side.

It's not really perfect but I was pretty bad with spriting back then :P
I don't know what the sprite misses but IIRC Darkman.EXE had just one sprite in the original game :-??

Well, I see DT finally changed his avatar...   :-j Anywhoo, DARKMAN LOOKS FREAKING AWESOME!  I remember him from that one episode of the Megaman cartoon series (yes, I actually saw a few episodes of that show...), but to have him in a MUGEN project would be just too cool for words.  DARKMAN FTW!  (FTW meaning "for the win," not "(bleep) the world"; I don't want to get banned because of a misunderstanding over abbreviations.)

It's hard to see on the dark forum background but the rugged outlines were intentional, as I was trying to mimic the Marvel Vs Capcom 1 Portrait style. I can always clean them up if necessary.

Yes, I see. Still unrefined, but I see it more clearly.

Still, as I said here and on a PM I sent you (that was a bit of jumping the gun on my part ???), some subtle details could be added.

Well, maybe just the "gritty" scratchy lines that can be seen near Mega Man's neck and shoulders, or some such.

Edit: Come to think of it, did you intend to leave the pipes, connected to Dark Man's brain, without black outlines? I think they would look better with those.

Edit 2: On second thought, the pipes' outline color is fine as it is. :thumbsup:

Somehow, it looks like Toadman to me.

It's disappointing enough that you guys are going for mock-MvC gameplay again, so I'd stay away from the MvC portraits at least.

On-topic - that's still a pretty keen lil piece for say, a public-release Darkman that someone's opting into their MvC1 pack.

Actually I'll use it for a special move, something like Goenitz's Kokoudeska!

Now the only thing I have yet to improve now is the defense stances, where I'll use the shield idea from Megaman 5.

Just so you guys know, I've never touched Darkman this entire month (yes, real life demands), but I plan to resume work on him next week.

What I'm looking for right now is for a effect similar to the shield he uses in Megaman V. It will be used for his defense stance.

Yeah I think that having an Intro is a good idea. It really adds to the game when Character have special intro for each other. Like when Evil Ryu fights Evil Ken, It really gets your blood pumping.  :thumbsup:

Well, since I've finally beaten Diablo II, I might as well get back to work on Darkman. He only needs some touchs on the basics, which I'll be doing slowly.

Also, have you considered having Protoman teleport in and out like he does in the game? Something just feels a little off to me seeing Protoman run from a fight rather than just teleporting out. Could be that's just me though.  %%-

But if Blues teleports, then he would have to leave a Life Tank behind and I don't think he has that time, so I guess he'll walk away....(I know I'm being silly ignore me  :-[)

He could just jump up while standing in his stance mode, just up like a deus ex macna effect. You could even tie ropes into his sholders, and make him look like a cardboard cut out and lift him a way. It would be funny.....

Well I mean the traditional Megaman style "teleport" where they turn into a little line and fly straight up or down. In the video he just falls down, unmasks Darkman, then jumps up. No line. Either way is cool with me though.

And sence its a hologram robot, his base from dosnt have to be anything humane looking. The inhuman apperance of Dark Man is like a reflection into the dark side of humanity, a cold mechine willing to mask itself as something friendly only to distory you.
Its actualy pritty deep if you think about why the character was made.

I mean I understand that, but it is just the way it changes doesn't look right to me. I think it needs more of a flash, like the other sprites that MDMKII did.

I am going with this line of thinking with Darkman. The new strong kick still fits the zombie-like line of him. I've tought of adding a last frame, where he falls back after the attack.

I was watching Megaman: Apon a star, ep 1 on netflix this morning.
In it when mega man gets to Mt. Fugi, he's attacked by a bunch of Darkmen
One of them did a flying psychocrusher flying head first in like this blue fire ball kinda like that above, but this one had legs.
It was the second one to appear, the first was actualy the tank form, it shot at mega man, then mega man shot it in the head and it fell over.

Maybe you could do a lv 3 hyper thats like a super psycho crusher with darkman that has legs, in honor of the anime?

It's because I used it as a base. I also took your idea and used Gambit for the cape. It took me two days to finish it!

Now, I believe spriting is 99,99% done. I'll go through all the sprites again and revise anything I might have missed.

All sprites are DONE! However I'll still make some minor adjustments to some sprites.
I also want to add a new special move, since by now I've just sprited two (a common projectile and a paralization projectile).

@laspacho I've talked with @Mistah Jorge and we will work together on Dark Man :)
I've sent him all Dark Man file and he will be taking a look.

I made him feel free to choose to just set up the SFF or go programming the character. @Magma MK-II  has already left several references and there is only one stroke that I want to program myself. And his voices I take care of later (I already have ideas).

Time for this character to finally see the light of day :)

@Jelux Da Casual and I made it even better: each button controls how fast the shields will spin around it and the speed when they are thrown against P2.
The weaker the button, slower it spins...but FASTER if will be thrown against the target :)

Since Dark Man is already a different char from the others in some aspects, I've decided to make his AI a little different:

• Instead of rushing towards the target (as all other characters does on the game), his AI makes him to back dash, moving away from the enemy. while controlling the space with his projectiles. For sure, if you stay close to him, he will execute the normal grab/combo routines.

• Right now, the AI will randomly choose between the Normal Power set (Dark Net) and Proto Power Set on the start of the match - and this influence how his AI works. But I will improve it even more - I will make the AI always starts with the Proto Set and, if he loses the first round, then change to the Normal PS (since its harder to fight against).

I think this will make his AI pretty unique.

Here is the first preview of Dark Man, a character that I am coding with Mistah Jorge, with sprites made by Magma MK II.
He is almost done, with 5 power sets and some hypers. We just need to finish the last power set and polish things here and there.

The movie shows a Lvl 8 AI battle (this is why he is kinda spammy), then me against Bass (AI) and then 2vs2 AI battle again.
