this "meter" is actually Gantz from said anime, a dark sphere that forces dead people to kill bizarre aliens in order to gain an "second chance". while they make their mission, Gantz show how much time they got, if the time end and the aliens are not dead, the Gantz members are teleported back from the mission and the living alien will search they for revenge.
