A newbie is introduced to MUGEN.
« on: June 09, 2016, 03:46:51 AM »
Alright, so I had this idea in my head because...it popped up in my head.

So let's say I'm new to MUGEN as I was back in 2007. What would you recommend that I download (characters, stages, etc.) and are there any tips on developing stuff for MUGEN that I should know about?

This is actually a good topic.  I guess answers, though, can be contingent on a newbie's interests.  But I think overall it's good for one to check out a release by a team (such as the IMT, MMV or CrusaderCast teams), as those have more likelihood to be solid.  That still depends on one's preference, though, as each team has its own leanings towards playstyle, sprite design, AI difficulty, etc.

FILL IN THIS SURVEY!

it's really easy  :cool
NOTE: you can pick more than one answer!

What style fighting game do you like?
Street Fighter, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Sould Calibur, other.

What fighting game companies are you a fan of?
Capcom, SNK, Midway, Namco, Konami, other.

What themes and genres are you into?
Comics, Anime, 3D, other.

Then realise that if you picked all of the above then it's OK!
Because Mugen means INFINITY! So there are no limits!
You can mix and match and even customise your own fighting game!

Here at IMT we create and share characters mostly based of comic book superheroes!

It's not easy creating your own stuff and it takes time! we don't get paid for it but there are some creators that should be Millionare$!
I'm starting to create Blade from Marvel comics! i think it should be done NEXT WEEK hopefully :)
Good luck on your journey!

BTW did you hear that the new Spider-Man 3 movie has VENOM in it!!!
That makes it the best movie in the world already, I mean how can you go wrong right! I have pre-ordered all the DVD's from the local mall already, cause they will definitely be worth a lot of $$$ in like 7 years from now!
 :)

I agree! Something I'm curious about is whether the quality of certain characters, stages or screen packs ever been an issue for us or not over the years.  And say there are a bunch of Ryu and Kens that a newbie can't choose from.

Now before I move on, I just want to say that I'm not moving towards a "which Ryu is better than the other Ryu" path or not, I personally believe that every version of said character shines in its own right. That said though, this is something I also wanted to bring up because some characters do have special encounters coded into them, and back in my day, this really helped flesh out my MUGEN roster.

Another thing I think we should consider in this kind of situation also is when fleshing out the roster, is maybe improving the presentation of MUGEN gameplay somehow through certain characters. For instance, I saw an awesome New52 Superman MUGEN video on the forums today: http://www.infinitymugenteam.com/Forum_345/index.php?topic=45323.msg531631;topicseen#new

This then brings us to making certain creators well known. Are there big names in the MUGEN community right now that newbies should consider checking out before embarking on their own MUGEN hobbyist path?
