Marvel Four-Player Fighter
« on: December 07, 2012, 09:06:03 PM »
I'm currently in the idea stages of a new game I'm hoping to develop. Currently the only things set in stone are that the game will feature Marvel characters, that it will be a four player fighting game in the vein of Super Smash Bros. and that the sprites will be made using the style of Jump Super/Ultimate Stars.

I'm still in the stages of coming up with moves for the 48 characters I plan on including. That number is probably a tad unrealistic in terms of volume, but it's currently still the goal.

Nice. I think there is a guy at Shinra who is making some Capcom chars using this base

Mat- I think a character like Fing Fan Foom would be too big as a playable. Maybe as a boss ...

My suggestion for villains:
Doc Ock
Enchantress
Baron Zemo
Bullseye

Can you guys give me some moveset ideas? For any of the characters I listed, not just for the villains you suggest.
Here's a template for you:
(click to show/hide)

The game won't have "ring-outs' like SSB so no need to add recovery moves, it also won't have the "instant kill super" system that PS All-stars has, just the traditional health bar.

I think you have pretty good ideas, i'd be great to play a game that style with Marvel chars, about the roster the only one I think woulnd't fit it's M.O.D.O.K., 'cause he's a different body type than the others, he has arms and legs but his head is his body, consider that.

The movelist, as you propose sounds good, I recommend that you get a little "research" on the characters about what super is stronger than the other ,etc.

Be careful with chars like Blade, Ghost Rider, Dormmamu, because there aren´t  many appearences of them in videogames, even animated series, so I THINK it can be kinda hard to make them worthy in the game.

Sorry for the speech, I'll look forward to this project.

He needs to be in there D:

^^(PM)^ an excelent idea, i suggest in the moves for captain america something like the falcon punch but using the shield, charging the shield then pow! stars and stripes!, as for iron man i think a mega uni beam like samus special in ssmb brawl, for the stages i think u should use the daily bugle with jjj on a window, the characters con jump into the letters D A  I  L Y    B U G L E

also try to make some animated stages like asgard kinda like the hyrule temple stage in the first n64 smash bross, u know with some hurricanes, random thunders, etc.

also a lava pit in mephistos realm, kinda like planet zebes, samus stage

and a huge shield helicarrier resembling the final destination stage or corneria stage, that would also be a place to fight fing fang foom

I suggest u choose some of the grounds in x.men legends or marvel ultimate alliance games.

Now keep in mind none of the sprites are completely done yet, so you might see things that don't look right (like all of the characters' feet), but this is the gist of how the final sprites will look:

If you're using the traditional mugen engine (I mention it 'cause you may be using another, since it's a different type of game) I can code some of the chars, I don't have much experience but I do have: Time, patience, care for the characters, know them, an interest in the project, so you could give me the details and a char's sprites and I'll give it a try

Iceman
Neutral Special - Iceball
Side Special - Icebeam
Up Special - Iceboard (like Squirtles Up B)
Down Special - Ice intercept (freezes opponent as a counter)
Level 1 Super - Small ice field around Iceman, slows opponent caught in it
Level 2 Super - Screen filling version of the above, snowing
Level 3 Super - Ice storm, shards of ice cut apart the screen

Ghost Rider
Neutral Special -
Side Special - Chain (pulls opponent in)
Up Special - Chain up (grips to things, or pulls up to an opponent + light damage, good combo extender)
Down Special - Spin out (drive bike in a quick fiery circle)
Level 1 Super - Penance Stare (about 1 player width beam from eyes freezes and damages opponent)
Level 2 Super - Hellfire explodes around him, damages opponents initially and over time
Level 3 Super - Becomes engulfed in flames and rides around dealing heavy damage (all other moves still usable and enhanced)

Blade
Neutral Special - Knife toss
Side Special - Starfox style dash attack with sword
Up Special - Throws up the chain weapon from Trilogy
Down Special - Counter (if successful pulls opponent in and shoots them in the face with a handgun)
Level 1 Super - Blade flings out his chain weapon, if it makes contact, he pulls in the opponent, then pulls off a sword/knife/gun combo on them
Level 2 Super - Healing factor kicks in, and blade slowly recovers life for a time
Level 3 Super - Blade goes berserk, and does 3x damage and 2x speed for a time

Sabertooth
Neutral Special -
Side Special - Three consecutive slashes sideways (like in VS series)
Up Special - Uppercut whirlwind claw
Down Special - Pounce (squats down with hands back, then either  :8 :6 :2 is pressed, which determines if he goes straight up, angled up, or horizontally)
Level 1 Super - Bloodlust (faster, slightly more damage)
Level 2 Super - Maul (hops forward, if it lands he unleashes viscous combo)
Level 3 Super - Healing (moderately fast healing)

Not so sure on Sabertooth's supers, but I figured I'd try. This whole thing looks quite good.

I was going to, and still might, post this in its own thread, but for now I'll just post it here.

I'm also working on an Avatar: The Last Airbender game with this exact same concept and art style and I'm having a hard time deciding which one should take priority. I love Marvel, that whole universe and cast of characters, but there have been plenty of Marvel games to go around. ATLA on the other hand I love just as much, but it doesn't get as much love in the gaming department, so I find my self leaning more towards working on that one most. I already have base sprites for most of the main characters and will post them soon. But for now, the character roster so far is as follows:

Yeah, I thought about having Korra as an extra character. But she has so many characters in her own series with unique abilities that I almost feel like she can have her own game, in the form of a sequel, down the line.

Just to let you guys know, I'd like to get at least a small demo made before I go all out with this project. I don't know how long that will take, but that's the current goal. So my priorities:

1) Polish up the specifics, rules and overall structure of the game

2) Find people who are willing to lend a hand in this project in its current state

3) Work on sprite sheets, movesets, quotes, etc. for the 8 planned demo characters (Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Wolverine, Spider-Man, Ms. Marvel and Dr. Doom)

If I get all 3 of those things done then I'll move on to:

4) Seriously seek out programmers, coders, music creators, other spriters, general artists, and voice actors

5) Get a small, 8 character demo out and see how well it's received

6) If the demo is well received, then go all out with the project.

Now, I can't gauge at all how difficult this project will be or how long it will take, but this sprite style is fairly simple so I'm hoping it's easy for people to latch on to.
